Sans is actually very similar to Jim Raynor in disposition and outlook. The difference is that whereas Jim is constantly fighting to stay invested in the world around him, Sans gave up a long time ago. The older skele-bro has kept himself out of the game for a long time, so he needs someone who will inspire him to get back into the thick of things.
Bakumon is a good start for this. He's an earnest, caring digimon who will be able to get close to Sans fairly easily. Once they're pals, Sans will find that his friend's digivolutions become progressively darker and edgier, without his partner's disposition changing drastically.
If anyone deserves an edgelord for a friend, it's Sans. Someone to help him learn that it's okay to dwell on your own problems and trust that the world will be okay. Dark is not evil, and this is a lesson that Sans sorely needs to relearn.
