Omniverse Venting Thread
#31
@Eric: I don't even call myself a gamer anymore. I've come to realize I share almost nothing in common with most of the people who do. I've also come to learn to stay far away from any game or group that is associated with e-sports. I couldn't tell you why, but toxicity follows that hyper-competitive environment around.

@homin-Ratione: Ah yes. Imgur. Where you don't even need to type to tell someone you hate them. If it wasn't decisively superior for all of my heavy image uploading and sharing needs, I would've left it behind myself. Good on you for getting away from that mess.

@Omni: That last bit about sometimes things not being as advertised reminds me of a time I joined a roleplay I'm gonna go ahead and not name. I always read over the rules just to make sure there's nothing in there that would really put me off or make me uncomfortable. (I could talk about some silly experiences browsing sites, but I'm sure we've all a couple of those.) Back to this specific site though. Everything looked good, no indication that I wouldn't really fit in there.

...And then I enter the site's chatroom. Now it's important to know that the site had rules. Real basic stuff that could've all been summarized as "Yo please don't be jerks to eachother." But after hanging out in that particular chatroom for a while I came to witness an alarming amount of ironic racism, really uncomfortable transphobic comments being made by a staff member towards another staff member (Not even as a joke. He was bullying the other staff member.) and some other smaller nonsense. The head admin seemed alright and for the most part agreed when I pointed out that I felt like the rules weren't being enforced, but unfortunately we werent' able to agree on some key issues such as "Maybe we shouldn't be calling other members the N-word."

I didn't know what to say to that. They seemed to think just because they were only kidding that made it okay. The problem was, I wasn't in on the joke and I didn't really want to be in on it, so I took my leave. I don't know who that sense of humor is normal for, but it's certainly not for me personally.
