Omniverse Venting Thread - Aadibah - 02-27-2017 Come here and post stuff you're angry about and just need someone to listen to it. No guarantees that you'll get replies, but at least you can aim your anger somewhere other than people. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Aadibah - 02-27-2017 I'll start. I think I might be overreacting and not really thinking, but my family is the kind where it's perfectly fucking fine for when everyone else does the thing, but for some reason when I do the same exact thing it's not okay. Also they REALLY like to interrupt and talk over me. I've developed a habit of dominating conversations and talking very loudly because I hate it when they do it. And then they get mad at me when I try to be more confident as I get older instead of just letting people walk over me. I could be just angry and wrong, though, but it's what I feel like. Edit: Also, I often try to start talking in a group conversation by waiting for a pause (that's how you do it right?) instead of just straight up interrupting people. This works never and I always get someone that starts trying to talk over me, like, the very second I start talking. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Gamzee Makara - 02-27-2017 Are you the middle child? Because these sound like middle child symptoms. Or do you have a larger than average family? Might be part of it. Family is a weird thing dude. Sometimes it can be a sinkhole, but sometimes its the only thing that keeps ya going. Mightve just been dealt a bad hand, friend. Despite it being a little panderish, this scene always makes me smirk just a bit when I feel like Life is kicking the shit out of me. Even if it isn't to be taken 100% seriously, the theme stays true. I can give you zero advice on talking to people, I'm pretty shitty at it. BUT, with that in mind, if I may. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Strazio Rockwell - 02-27-2017 A few things I've learned from having to deal with people as part of my job that may or may not help you. - In a group setting whoever is the dominant speaker tends to position themselves so everyone else is staring at them (hard to describe, but imagine they are the point of a triangle and everyone else is the opposite edge). If you want to join the conversation and become the dominant speaker come in behind and slightly to the side of the speaker. This forces them to reorientate themselves to where they give up the dominant position. - If you wish to get a word in edgewise with someone who apparently doesn't need to breath, drop something (pen, loose change, soda bottle cap, anything innocuous really). Bend down to pick it up and as you come up start speaking. Most people will pause for a moment as you bend to grab your item and if you start speaking on the upswing you can take the reigns of a conversation. - If people are constantly interrupting you train yourself to ignore them and finish what you're saying. This one is very hard to do because you instinctively want to stop talking and listen, but it works wonders against most people that butt in. If you're speaking you have the baton and they're the rude ones for trying to interject inappropriately, not you for finishing your thought. The key with all of this is subtlety, and it doesn't work all the time so picking and choosing your battles is important. I don't really know you or your family so this is all just generic advice that I've picked up from being a people wrangler for the past few years. One thing that I think a lot of relationships (professional, personal, romantic, etc) lack is communication. It can be very uncomfortable and sometimes hurt feelings, but sometimes sitting down with people and having real talk about what you feel is an issue can be the best thing. Again you know your situation better than I do, but if it is really bothering you it might be worth letting them know about it. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Kopaka - 02-27-2017 kick em in the balls RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Gamzee Makara - 02-28-2017 but what if they dont have balls phh RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Kopaka - 02-28-2017 Everyone has balls. In their eyesockets. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Zack Fair - 03-01-2017 RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Aadibah - 04-03-2017 Apparently I'm not allowed to be a stickler for historical accuracy and realism in terms of HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) in popular media such as TV, News, Movies, Games, etc, but it's perfectly fucking fine for everyone to throw a hissy fit about people getting science or political shit wrong. Ie, climate change, Trump vs Hillary, geo-political situations, modern warfare, modern history and recent events, etc. I can't have my thing but everyone else can. Fuck this gay earth. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Trixie - 04-03-2017 The Earth is indeed gay. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Jack Darby - 04-03-2017 As it turns out, one of the most annoying things is a Sleep Study. You get the "privilege" of having wires glued into your hair, and electrodes stuck to your arms, chest and legs. And if that is not bad enough you have to shampoo to get the paste out. Oh, and you have to wake up at five am. I've had two in the past, and I'm not sure if I'll have another of those ANNOYING experiences. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Handsome Jack - 04-03-2017 I've had one before. It ain't so bad. Worst part is having to fall asleep on your back. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Aadibah - 04-03-2017 @Warren Zimmer "Okay we're gonna study how well you sleep by making it damn near impossible for you to sleep and stressing you out as much as possible for good measure." My mom had the same exact issue with a sleep study once. I'm not doctor but I'm pretty sure you need someone to be able to relax in order to sleep. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Jack Darby - 04-03-2017 Yes, you get why I hate the studies. If it weren't for all the electrodes they needed... it would be much easier. Especially the ones in my hair. And I may have another of those annoying ones coming soon to get a Cpap which I need. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Jade Harley - 04-04-2017 Gosh, that's some wild stuff. Especially the wires in the hair bit. I know I couldn't sleep like that haha. I've never been involved in a sleep study before, did you have to meet certain requirements or something, like medical conditions or age? It sounds like a sorta rigorous thing. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Jack Darby - 04-04-2017 Yeah, and as it turns out I THANKFULLY won't need another. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Omni - 04-11-2017 I'm a quiet person. But I keep to myself. I don't form alliances. I'm not very social, I've got asperger's, I kinda wanna just be left alone to be my own thing. But I've been having a dispute with one of my housemates for a long time. The landlord today visited, and because she's been saying I'm noisy (I'm not), I have to leave. Not necessarily soon, he said, but I gotta leave, not because my landlord believes her but because if she leaves, the guy she invited after her will leave too, and that's 2 people vs my 1. The other two housemates have said they haven't heard anything, and have no problems with me, but despite that, and despite her stealing/throwing away a bunch of my stuff over the year I've been here, I've gotta leave. I'm so angry right now, and so past my point of patience, that I could honestly bludgeon someone to death. I'm so sick of people that pull strings and manipulate and form alliances and I'm just on the outside. I just want to be fucking left alone. Fucking deep breaths before I kill somebody. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Jade Harley - 04-11-2017 What the heck? That's terrible. I hope things work out for you, dude. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - homin-Ratione - 04-11-2017 You could always go postal. RE: Omniverse Venting Thread - Dell Conagher - 04-11-2017 People are scum man. I hope your situation improves |
