^For starters that sounds like an incredibly toxic community. The moment someone casually drops "kys" and doesn't get called out is the moment I would gtfo.
Honestly, a lot of people are just extremely cliquey. They sign up to online games and basically only talk to people they already know. Same goes for real-life.
It doesn't excuse acting like a cunt, but other times it's just because you're trying too hard, and people can sense it. If you constantly ask questions that require a response, sort of forcefully engaging someone, or act too friendly to someone you've just met, it can provoke a pull-back response. I've been on both sides, and nowadays I try to just have natural conversations, especially online, by piping in when I have something relevant to say (or something to add to the conversation) rather than jangling around with niceties that we use in real-life like "how are you?" etc. Then if people wanna talk back, they have that choice, rather than feeling forced. And if they don't feel like talking, that's cool too. Most people playing games online are of the latter, and those that do talk are mostly talking only to their friends; hitting off an actual conversation online with randomers is really rare.
In this case, though, I'd move on and try to find a more friendly server. Sometimes things just aren't as advertised, and you usually have to go through a whole lot of communities to find good ones.
I've been reading all these posts, but with this I felt I had something worthwhile to add. But there's some SERIOUS FUCKING BULLSHIT in y'all lives.

Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!
