She could hear the strange, metal boots of the white warriors circling around the fountain. The Empire they were called? Strange name. Even stranger weaponry. But that didn't mean it wouldn't be deadly if they chose to use it. Their static-masked voices reminded Rin of the drones she had fought before escaping to the internet and then getting trapped here.
The kid glanced over at her and whispered something about being ready. She looked over him and his apparent lack of weapons. Besides a small hunting knife, he had nothing to defend himself with.
She grinned at him with confidence. "Don't worry kid, I got this." Rin sank back against the wall, clasping her hands together in front of her chest, firming up her stance. She had only done this twice before, but she knew her magic power would always come through in a pinch. Rin searched inside herself for that familiar bubble of force. Strangely, there was not just her normal power, but also the rainbow liquid welling up there. This odd thing Omni had given to her. What did it do again? She had forgotten.
The dwarf decided to ignore it for now, and focused on gathering the clear white power inside her, gathering it at her core. Hopefully she would be able to gather enough before the Empires found them.
What was this? The power that had taken so much work to gather before, suddenly came to her. The force gathered so quickly inside, that in surprise, she released it.
It burst through the clear air of the Nexus. The force, like a translucent shell of white energy, blasted outwards, knocking everything nearby backwards. The storm troopers grunted as the shell, and a few loose stones from the fountain wall, were launched in their direction, knocking them to the ground.
Rin's head swam for a moment. She leaned heavily against the mostly stable fountain wall, trying to focus again. The kid next to her had been shoved over a few inches, the wind knocked out of him momentarily from the force. The stormtroopers were starting to regain themselves a few feet away.
The static voice sounded from one to the others. "There's something over there!"
"Check it out."
Rin smiled uneasily. "Oops."
