Another idea, if you go for the Story idea, you could just straight up make it Pokemon battles. They'd pretty much be "incidental weapons" in regards to what they're used for.

Also, I wonder how the PLF will handle the news of a Pokemon League forming? I assume Wartortle will be planning some pretty public murders.

Mewtwo might have a word in it too. And Palpatine or Aragorn might not approve of non-authorized battles in their respective verses. And othe Primes with goals like Smith might want that opportunity to get rid of large numbers of secondaries at once, in Colosseums and such. If it works out it could be quite the epic series of story events!
