The whole "modern day explanations of mythical phenomena" is really played out, but I found myself really enjoying the Dresden Files' take. It's very internally consistent. Magic is both logically staightforward and interesting with a lot of room for cool writing on the author's part. The actual stories are not A+, but it's entertaining and good stuff.
