A New Beginning
#10
While Jams guided their comet to the mysterious gate, Eric peered through the view screen. The scenery was slightly blurred, but he could easily make out the archway from the landscape, seeing as it was the only color in the immediate vicinity. I wonder where it leads to...Suddenly, Eric noticed that Jams had begun to slow their speed, decelerating as they neared the gate. As soon as they came to a complete stop, Jams jumped up and exited, and Eric followed. Clambering out, he slid down the side, and deftly landed on his feet. His companion immediately began to inspect the portal.Wait... Is this made of living wood? The leaves are green and vibrant, and nothing seems to be dying. I'm not even going to think about how the hell this is even possible.

Jams spoke up, recommending that they prepare for whatever they might find on the other side."Great idea" Eric replied. "Judging from the gate, this appears to lead to some sort of wooded area."Let's see, what do I need... Definitely a pack, to store my things in. I already have Requiem if the forest is too dense. And some insect repellent will be handy as well. Those little blood-suckers aren't getting anywhere near me. Still muttering about the general evilness of insects, he shuffled off to the side, providing plenty of room for summoning.

Focusing, Eric first envisioned a large, dark-green pack, with multiple pockets and compartments. A flashing orb of multi-colored omnilium melted out of his chest, and started to materialize the backpack within its mysterious depths. Within a few minutes, the orb faded away, and dropped the pack into the mage's outstretched hands. Next came the bug repellent, which Eric, being the doofus that he is, had contained in a glass jar. And once again, the jar fell onto the ground with a loud CRASH, followed by an exodus of semi-solid beige paste out of the shattered remains. Eric proceeded to apply with great speed his palm to his face, issuing an audible noise filled with the echoing cries of frustration. With that inevitable situation out of the way, Eric moved on to a new spot. This time around, he took great care to avoid yet another mess, with more success than previously. The rough glass smoothly settled onto his hands, and obediently remained between them. Quickly, before yet another mishap could occur, the young mage transferred it into a special compartment, with thick walls surrounding it.
