The magical barrier around the fighting zone, is it semi-solid or is it unbreakably solid. I ask this because will sharp weapons cling to it as if they've penetrated it or will any and all weapons just simply bounce off of it and find no purchase?

And can things like wall walking techniques allow Ururu to cling to it or will it repel people as well.

Completely, amazing super duper impervious to everything ever, physical, mental, emotional, metaphysical, pseudo-physical, nonphysical, hypothetical or anything other combination of anything. It's only purpose is to keep moves and stuff from entering or exiting the arena and can't really be used for anything else. The terrain inside the barrier is the stuff you can traverse, but the actual shield around the field isn't something you can climb on/use for much else.

So if I for instance shot an energy beam at it will the shield deflect the beam or will the beam simply dissipate?

Proto has the official say, but I'd say that it'd dissipate. It STOPS stuff from exiting. The OOG reason for that is so that A: you use the terrain INSIDE the barrier instead of the barrier itself, making each match more unique, and B: for the sake of simplicity.
