I'm not going to vote, because I honestly think both options have similar merit. Let me explain my reasoning.
I understand that certain weapons, etc. make a character, and that removing them makes that character harder to write (e.g. Erza, duh). I also understand that these restrictions can make for equally interesting RP fodder as the characters try to figure out what they're to do to defend themselves, etc. Personally, I think this is overall a positive addition to the ruleset, and makes things more interesting.
However, there are other characters who would lose relatively very, very little in the process (e.g. Aang still has bending). On the one hand, that gives the player more options as far as things they can do to survive on the island - defending themselves with magic, lighting a campfire, etc. On the other, that player is no longer forced to find other ways to get by, and by the same token they lose the option to write as such, since it simply wouldn't make sense for a fire mage like Alain, Atelos or Aang to have trouble lighting a fire or whatever. In that respect, I find that there is an imbalance on the playing field in multiple forms: Characters stripped of most of their skills are obviously lacking of them, and characters with most of those skills intact arguably have less RP fodder to work with.
Then again, this imbalance could make for a more interesting playing field as well. Some characters inhibited beyond belief struggling equally with characters untouched is certainly just as dramatic as characters being more equal. And so, my final thoughts on the matter are as follows: Whatever you choose to do - Strip weapons only, strip ALL moves as Ganon has suggested, or leave moves intact - it'll make for an interesting story regardless. My personal approach to this website, to a degree, is to cooperatively write with other people for fun. I'm not out simply to do my best to dominate over other players, unless of course it somehow makes the story more interesting or more fun to write for both of us. I'm not here to gloat about what my character can or can't do. If I join as Erza, and am unable to fight effectively without a special weapon, so be it - it could at least be an interesting story. However, I completely understand the sentiments of those who feel personally attacked, or just otherwise invested, on either side of the issue. And that is why I will leave the voting to them.
