Weapon Moves - Proto Man - 04-20-2015

I'm leaning toward letting these into the island, because I don't want to provide an unfair advantage to people who use like, magic or other means to do the same thing (explode stuff, burn stuff).

The caveat, however, is that Weapon Moves would, regardless of their form or function, still be less than the Random Weapons that you receive in your starting pack. The strategy and F2F-impacting importance behind the Weapons would remain the same, and Weapon Moves would, like the entirety of a character's moveset, provide no advantage or disadvantage in Face to Faces.

I just want to take this time to reiterate one more time that, aside from Super Moves and Transformations, you get no advantage from your move/power-set. It's about the story you write and the strategy you employ.

The rules about certain Powers and Summoning would remain unchanged. Moves that can summon random things would still be out-lawed (sorry Guu's tummy and Giglamesh).

This is something that I will leave to you, the members who want to join and partake in this.

tl:dr - Collars no longer inhibit Weapon Moves, like swords and guns, but the Random Weapon/Support Item a character receives remains the only 'equipment/moveset-related' factor for when I determine the winner of Face-to-Face confrontations.

Re: Weapon Moves - Sasuke Uchiha - 04-20-2015

Moves really are a creative aspect of your character and can show insight, depth, or, and if nothing else, even flavor to the character's development and/or progress.I feel like nerfing everyone's moves to be even and not as valued as weapon reveals, transforms, or power ups would be enough, where as eliminating them all together directly removes that 'Flavor' from the character in question.

In a nutshell: What would Samus be without her arm cannon? Link without his sword? or Sinistro without his ring? Could they all provide compelling stories without them? Yes, but, does is take away from the uniqueness of the character? Yes.

I voted to allow them.

Re: Weapon Moves - Schwi Dola - 04-20-2015

I voted yes.

Also, the weapons given to the players could be considered Artifacts of a sort.

Re: Weapon Moves - Darth Vader - 04-20-2015

It's a yes from me, for all the same essential reasons Sasuke mentioned.

Perhaps I'm a little biased in that all my moves are weapons, also, lol.

Re: Weapon Moves - Deadpool - 04-20-2015

I'm gonna vote no.

I think the aspect of stripping characters of all weapons makes sense. Also, it allows the writer to come up wit story ideas that maybe dive into their relationship with their weapon or whatever. Not having a weapons adds to writing fodder, basically.

I think that if you rely mostly on weapon moves, you should probably buy a move and/or super move that has nothing to do with weapons. It's not hard. Plus, it my understanding, you can sell moves and super moves and receive half of what you paid, in return

They essentially are, and I think that adding this language will help convey their role in the competition.

Re: Weapon Moves - Proto Man - 04-20-2015

It should be stated that my personal opinion is that of Deadpool and probably the opposite of Sasuke. Losing things that define your character aren't a bad thing. In fact, I think it makes the story more compelling to read.

Samus without her arm cannon is just as compelling as Samus without.

And when we had a Sinestro, his plan was to essentially become a Wild West-style outlaw until he had the OM to buy his ring powers, so yea.

Re: Weapon Moves - Atelos - 04-20-2015

*grumbles* Stupid Gilgamesh and his OP moves

Re: Weapon Moves - PepsiWhirda - 04-20-2015

Unless it's going to have a significant impact on our viability in fights, I don't see why it's a change in the first place. I like the idea of a resource-starved strategic fight for survival more than everyone using sweet weapon moves.

Re: Weapon Moves - Guilmon - 04-21-2015

Can you imagine Vergil with no Yamato, Force Edge, or Beowulf? All he'd have is his ranged Summoned Swords - which cannot be wielded - and his wits. While that might be interesting to read, I'd be kinda pressed to write without them. His fighting style with none of those would probably resemble that of his fighting style with only Beowulf, though...

Re: Weapon Moves - Carn_Val - 04-21-2015

Voted yes since I have weapon moves. Other than that, I don't really mind whether we get them or not. It'll be a good writing exercise.

Re: Weapon Moves - Kenpachi Zaraki - 04-22-2015

I voted no. Purely because it just seems WAY more interesting to read. If we kept all moves, it would be just like if everyone was out hunting for the same artefact on an island or something and not like the exciting and different saga that DA is. It's challenging to write, but that's why it's great! I don't think that moves make a character any more than a haircut makes a person. Can it be more fun to have all of the stuff you're used to? Sure. But can it also be great to have something entirely different? I definitely think so.

Plus imagining Mario with the BFG just makes me SO happy.

Re: Weapon Moves - Illidan Stormrage - 04-22-2015

I voted no. Link without his weapons is a damn interesting concept I'd like to explore.

Re: Weapon Moves - Ganondorf - 04-25-2015

If you're gonna strip away Weapon Moves, I'd suggest stripping away any non-utility Moves as well. To level the playing field.

Re: Weapon Moves - Erza Scarlet - 04-25-2015

I'm not going to vote, because I honestly think both options have similar merit. Let me explain my reasoning.

I understand that certain weapons, etc. make a character, and that removing them makes that character harder to write (e.g. Erza, duh). I also understand that these restrictions can make for equally interesting RP fodder as the characters try to figure out what they're to do to defend themselves, etc. Personally, I think this is overall a positive addition to the ruleset, and makes things more interesting.

However, there are other characters who would lose relatively very, very little in the process (e.g. Aang still has bending). On the one hand, that gives the player more options as far as things they can do to survive on the island - defending themselves with magic, lighting a campfire, etc. On the other, that player is no longer forced to find other ways to get by, and by the same token they lose the option to write as such, since it simply wouldn't make sense for a fire mage like Alain, Atelos or Aang to have trouble lighting a fire or whatever. In that respect, I find that there is an imbalance on the playing field in multiple forms: Characters stripped of most of their skills are obviously lacking of them, and characters with most of those skills intact arguably have less RP fodder to work with.

Then again, this imbalance could make for a more interesting playing field as well. Some characters inhibited beyond belief struggling equally with characters untouched is certainly just as dramatic as characters being more equal. And so, my final thoughts on the matter are as follows: Whatever you choose to do - Strip weapons only, strip ALL moves as Ganon has suggested, or leave moves intact - it'll make for an interesting story regardless. My personal approach to this website, to a degree, is to cooperatively write with other people for fun. I'm not out simply to do my best to dominate over other players, unless of course it somehow makes the story more interesting or more fun to write for both of us. I'm not here to gloat about what my character can or can't do. If I join as Erza, and am unable to fight effectively without a special weapon, so be it - it could at least be an interesting story. However, I completely understand the sentiments of those who feel personally attacked, or just otherwise invested, on either side of the issue. And that is why I will leave the voting to them.
