I'm gonna vote no.
I think the aspect of stripping characters of all weapons makes sense. Also, it allows the writer to come up wit story ideas that maybe dive into their relationship with their weapon or whatever. Not having a weapons adds to writing fodder, basically.
I think that if you rely mostly on weapon moves, you should probably buy a move and/or super move that has nothing to do with weapons. It's not hard. Plus, it my understanding, you can sell moves and super moves and receive half of what you paid, in return
