#16 Mickey Mouse & #01 Yu Kanda vs #02 Gilgamesh & #13 Desman Black
Quote:Mickey Mouse watched as the horrific form of demon Gilgamesh sprinted at him. The dark force wrapping itself around him had been subdued for the moment, but the mouse knew he’d have to find a way to keep it from taking the gilded king’s mind for good.
“Come,” Gilgamesh shouted, “Meet your maker, mouse.”
“You’ve got Walt on speed dial?!”
The demon swiped at Mickey, who flipped into the air and landed squarely on the man’s shoulders. The black goop stuck to his shoes and Mickey almost threw up in his mouth.
Gilgamesh’s cursed hand reached for the Mouse’s feet but Mickey was too nimble. Mickey evaded with a swift jump, the muck on Gilgamesh’s body sticking to his shoe like old gum. Gilgamesh seethed at Mickey, “You will lose this fight, rodent!” The pint-sized prime, however, was too jaded from the fight to reply. His face had a permanent frown attached, even as he so skillfully evaded each and every one of the King’s attacks. Kicking off Gilgamesh’s head, Mickey did a backflip and pointed his keyblade at Gilgamesh.
“Fire!” Mickey shouted, unleashing an inferno on its path to the Gilded Monarch. Leaning back and barely avoiding the attack, Gilgamesh let the ball of fire fly past him towards the other pair of primes.
Desman Black, finally feeling the fighting spirit after discovering he and the demonic king had something in common, clashed his elemental cutlass against Yu Kanda’s blade. The swordsman glanced to the side and caught a glimpse of the fireball approaching them.
He stepped backwards. “Come and get me, Desman,” he taunted, and the former robot lunged forward just in time to be caught in the path of the spherical inferno.
The boy, his clothes and skin burning, rolled across the tile, stopping just before reaching the ring’s edge. When he opened his eyes, the captain of the Nippur guard stood over him, with a sad scowl.
“I must save him,” Kanda said, almost apologetically. “If you know what’s good for you—you’ll fight back against that demonic presence, too. I’m sorry, boy.”
Yu Kanda lifted a leg.
“No!” the redhead cried out, but it was too late; Kanda’s foot swung down and into his abdomen, knocking him out of the ring and into the grass.
The swordsman turned his attention back to his partner. Time to save Gilgamesh.
Gilg was already on the advance, his stained blades swinging mercilessly onto Mickey’s keyblade. The pint-sized prime flinched at every harsh swing, slowly retreating towards the edge of the arena. Kanda flew towards the pair of fighting Kings, brandishing his sword. Gilgamesh could sense his presence and with one swooping motion, pulled the exorcist out of the sky and roughly tossed him onto the ground.
“I am tired of your interference, Kanda,” Gilgamesh growled at his captain. Mickey, trying to help his partner, lunged at the King. Gil sidestepped the mouse, leaving him to faceplant into the ground.
Holding onto the swordsman’s collar, Gilgamesh raised him off the ground. Kanda’s hands futilely struggled to free himself from Gil’s grip, but had no success. Gilgamesh seethed at Kanda, “I have a debt to settle.”
“I have a soul to save,” Kanda replied.
“Tch. You know nothing Kanda,” Gil mumbled before gathering his strength and tossing Kanda out of the arena and into the stadium wall.
Gilgamesh turned back to his prey. Now, it was only them.
“No one to protect you now, Mouse,” he snarled. “No Kanda. No robot boy. Just you and me.”
Mickey Mouse wouldn’t lie—he was terrified. He gulped loudly as Gilgamesh launched his body towards him, dodging to the left and watching as the mad king slowed to a stop just before the ring’s edge. He turned around.
“You can’t win, Mickey,” the monarch barked.
“Don’t you get it, Gilgamesh?” Mickey shouted back, “It isn’t about winning, pal. Never has been.”
“Then what is it about, cur?” Gilgamesh sneered.
“Doing the right thing.” the mouse king said. “You always seemed like a pretty bad dude to me, but when I came back to Nippur, when I tried to help your people pick up the pieces, I saw how much they adored you. That means you must do the right thing sometimes, Gilgamesh.”
“Wait—you what? You… went back to Nippur?” Gilgamesh blinked in disbelief. “To… help my people?”
“Yeah, we got run out of there, but we tried,” Mickey shrugged. “They were innocent. Seemed like the right thing to do.”
Gilgamesh paused in his tracks, feeling conflict within. Mickey had stayed after his banishment. While this didn’t change how he personally felt about the mouse, the action gave him strange... comfort. Shaking his head to try and rid himself of this feeling, he continued to advance towards the Mouse.
Mickey watched as the hulking form of demon Gilgamesh lurched toward him, roaring with unbridled rage. The mouse ducked beneath another lunge from the maddened monarch, lifting his keyblade and releasing another huge arc of yellow energy. Gilgamesh turned on his heel, lifting his claws and catching the beam with his bare hands.
The two primes stared each other down, the burning light of the Yellow Kingdom Hearts connecting them like the chains of their rivalry had all these years.
And then, in a single instant, the blast exploded, taking their rivalry with it. Mickey Mouse and Gilgamesh flew backward, evenly matched, each overpowered by the other, and landed squarely outside the ring.
Mickey’s eyes flickered open seconds later, and he moved his fingers to clutch the ground beneath him, almost thankful for the end of this saga. But instead of grass, the mouse’s gloved hand ensnared a clump of Yu Kanda’s tunic.
Shocked, Mickey stood up to find the swordsman lying beneath him, a smile on his face. None of the mouse’s body parts had touched the outside of the arena.
Gilgamesh was not so lucky.
