[Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Karl Jak - 06-10-2018

More often than not, there weren’t many high-profile prime rivalries.  Even when there was a juicy loathing, it was more likely than not that one prime would vanish forever.  Failing that, they often settled their differences in more intimate settings, where the rest of the Omniverse couldn’t watch and salivate over all the bile and vitriol as it poured to the surface.

In that sense, Karl Jak knew that he had been blessed with this particular matchup, which pitted the king of an upstart desert city against the biggest bleeding heart in the entire Omniverse.  Both primes had fallen off the radar for nearly two years, and even when Karl intercepted the Coruscant reports that Mickey had been located in the Deep, the producer hadn’t expected the sassy little prime to wind up in the Dante Verse.

Better than that, he hadn’t expected the two to be matched against one another in the first round.

And the mouse is partnered with one of his lieutenants, how juicy.

Realizing that the four primes had been standing in silence, Karl focused on the task at hand and pushed the button on the comm.  “Hello and welcome to the opening round.”  The gong sounded.  “My apologies, Mr. Black, but I think you’re used to playing the third wheel.”

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Mickey Mouse - 06-10-2018

The ninth Dante’s Abyss began with a staring contest between two would-be kings.

Yu Kanda’s eyes flitted from monarch to monarch as Karl Jak’s voice boomed overhead. Desman Black, freshly figuratively torn to shreds by his new partner’s cult-like followers, gazed at the spectacle with awe.

The King of Heroes certainly had shown a limitless capacity for fury, but who knew the mouse king could fit so much hatred in his eyes?

Desman blinked. “Aren’t we supposed to be fighting now?”

Yu Kanda shot the red-headed boy a glare that signaled he should be silent. Their partners needed a moment to confer.

“Kneel, cur,” Gilgamesh finally spoke.

“You first,” Mickey Mouse shot back.

“You don’t know how long I’ve waited to rip those gigantic ears right off your tiny head, rodent,” the gilded king spat, “and now I’m finally getting my chance.”

Mickey frowned. “I’m not here for you, Gilgamesh.” He held out a hand; rainbow energy swirled, coalescing into his trusty keyblade. “We don’t need to fight, but I will if ya make me.”

Gilgamesh scoffed. “Prepare to die, mongrel.”

Sword after sword shot out of several golden portals above Gilgamesh’s head, hurtling at the mouse at breakneck speed. One by one, he deflected them, each dissolving into golden dust as he smacked them with his keyblade. When he’d repelled the final sword, Mickey spun to face Gilgamesh, only to be met by the nasty image of a spear flying directly at his face.

Yu Kanda leapt between the mouse and the spear, raising his blade and knocking it to the side. “Phew,” Mickey exhaled, “thanks, pal!”

“Out of my way, Kanda,” Gilgamesh growled, approaching the pair.

“I already told you,” Kanda replied, “There are no kings in the Abyss.”

Gilgamesh conjured a blade of his own out of another portal, gripping the hilt and swinging it in Kanda’s direction. The swordsman lifted his mugen and blocked the king’s strike, binding Gilgamesh’s blade to the ground. With a grunt, Gil slammed his leg into his subject’s torso and Kanda faltered, stumbling out of the mad monarch’s path. “Now,” Gilgamesh snarled at Mickey, “You’re mine, mouse.”

As the gilded king stalked toward his pint-sized prey, Yu Kanda prepared to charge and defend his partner. Nearby, Desman Black shook himself out of the stupor caused by the kings’ quarrel and appeared in front of the exorcist, stalling the guard captain’s offensive.

“You’re making a mistake,” Kanda frowned, swiping his blade at Desman’s legs. The youth leapt above it, bringing his elemental cutlass to Yu’s neck. Kanda, plenty faster than Desman, brought up his blade to stop the attack and locked eyes with the kid.

“I may not like that guy very much,” Desman said, “but we’re supposed to fight, and I don’t particularly like you either.”

“Alright… we’re doing this then, boy.”

Meanwhile, Gilgamesh’s sword also swung to chop his opponent’s miniature head off. Mickey brought his keyblade up and deflected the assault, only to be met with a painful boot to the face.

The gilded king chuckled as the mouse stumbled backward, smacking his head against the arena’s stone floor. He threw down his sword and knelt next to the mouse’s crumpled form, wrapping his fingers around Mickey’s throat. “Not so strong without your robot friend, eh?”

No, not nearly. Had he only been able to win last time because of the Proto Mouse? Was the power he’d accumulated since coming to the Omniverse really no match for the might of this arrogant jerk?

He choked out half-pleas to Gilgamesh to stop this nonsense. They didn’t need to fight. He was here to serve justice. He wasn’t here to prove that he could best Gilgamesh.

But something about the king’s smug grin compelled him to, nonetheless.

“Just die, mongrel,” Gilgamesh laughed, squeezing. “Give. In.”

“You… wish,” Mickey sputtered, wrenching himself free of Gilgamesh’s grasp and rolling away. The golden-haired boy growled low in his throat, and turned to face the mouse—except he’d disappeared completely.

In his place, a brass lamp rolled in Gilgamesh’s direction. The king looked quizzically at it, watching as a blue, gaseous substance leaked out of the spout and formed into a small, indigo copy of the mouse dressed in pseudo-Arabian garb that gazed up at Gilgamesh. His eyebrow quirked. “What… the fuck?”

“Hey, Gilly boy!” the duplicate giggled. “Question: you ever had a friend like me?”

The Genie-Mouse leapt at Gilgamesh, who lifted his fist and easily swatted it out of his way. He glanced up at the sky, searching for his true prey, but what he saw instead made his stomach drop: a full-sized, grayscale steamboat, over half the width of the arena, plummeting toward the ground.

“…shit.”

Over where they traded blows, Kanda and Desman looked up as the Steamboat Willie’s shadow crept toward them. The guard captain slammed a shoulder into the redhead, knocking him into the flight path.

“I said you were making a mistake,” Kanda shouted as Desman stumbled.

From the boat’s cockpit, Mickey Mouse grinned.

Toot toot, mother truckers!!

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Gilgamesh - 06-11-2018

The pit in Gilgamesh’s stomach tightened at the sight of this tremendous sea vessel. Letting out this tension with a pained sigh, a golden portal flickered to life next to Gilgamesh offering him one of his treasures. With a grunt, Gilgamesh pulled out a six-foot mirror decorated with gems rivalling the size of that mouse’s ridiculous head. Gil heaved the enormous mirror up to meet the ship. Instead of a rough impact, the King was met with the unpleasant sounds of screeching metal. The hull of the ship bent itself around the magical mirror, creating a person-sized hole for Gilgamesh to pass through. The remaining bits of metal crashed deafeningly into the floor before disappearing in a puff of cartoonish smoke.

Turning his head to the center of the crash he could see Mickey bent over catching his breath. Nearby the Mouse was Desman, bruised and writhing on the ground. Kanda, however, did not let Gilgamesh take advantage of Mickey’s exhaustion. The swordsman quickly dashed towards Gil, with an unsettling blue color coating his blade. Closing the gap between the two, Kanda swung in a pattern of three at the air, creating three crescent moons directed at the King. Gilgamesh simply raised his hand to create a purple barrier which easily ate the projectiles.

The King of Heroes’ face was clearly unamused, “Kanda, you will obey me. The Mouse is my opponent!” Kanda, however, had closed the distance by then, leaping into the air for an aerial strike. A series of swords and spears targeted Kanda; however, the swordsman was too nimble. In the air, the exorcist was able to use his skill and agility to parry and evade each weapon. Landing gracefully on his feet, Kanda raised his head to see an unhappy Gilgamesh.

“I obey no man here and you will not dismiss me.” Kanda retorted, his stoic face unmoved. Gil grit his teeth at this response, the exorcist was turning out to be quite the pest. With fire in his eyes, Gilgamesh summoned one of his own swords to challenge Kanda’s.

Kanda was about to stand up, instead falling into the sand. Behind him was a bruised Desman, smoke coming from his palms. The swordsman shot Desman a dirty glare which turned his coy smile into a smug grin. “Forgetting someone?” Desman said keeping the shit eating grin on his face.

Kanda’s wrathful look was calmed by a soothing presence. Turning his head, he saw Mickey extending his hand. Taking the help, Kanda got back onto his feet. Mickey, however then put his arm in front of the exorcist, blocking his path.

Mickey spoke up, his voice sounding defeated yet determined, “Fine Gilgamesh. Let’s play it your way.” With those words, Kanda shot his attention back to Desman who was ready to return some of the pain that had been dealt to him.

The Golden King, without hesitation, began to stride forward to meet the Mouse. He flourished his blade as he advanced, “Two long years, I have waited for this moment. Do you have any idea of what hell I went through to get back?” Coming face to face, Gilgamesh wasted no time, swinging his sword into Mickey’s keyblade. His blade trembled, filled with as much rage as he was.

Mickey’s demeanor was somber, but his words were laced with venom. “Apparently not enough,” the rodent seethed, pushing Gilgamesh’s blade off and butting the hilt of his blade into the King’s ribs. The attack had winded him, forcing him to his knees and leaving him gasping for air. “I guess you ended up kneeling first,” Mickey spoke, swinging the keyblade into Gilgamesh’s head. The force sent Gil sliding across the stadium, a large gash now present on the side of his head.

The King clutched his head, warm blood trailing down his cheek. Mickey walked towards him, frowning, with his bloody keyblade resting over his shoulder.

“It didn’t have to come to this, Gilgamesh,” Mickey mumbled. Suddenly, an array of glittering portals opened around the Mouse. Dark iron chains shot out of the gates and enveloped Mickey’s limbs, tightly constricting rather than they were pythons. Wobbling back onto his feet, Gilgamesh waved his hand, summoning a personal arsenal of weapons.

Baring bloodstained teeth, he spoke with absolute hatred in his voice, “Yes it did, Mick. You didn’t have to clean up skeletons of infants in your throne room.” Gilgamesh’s breathing slowed as he relived his first few moments back into the Omniverse. Breaking from this trance and looking at the bound rodent, he seethed, “Just because you don’t like violence, doesn’t mean you aren’t the villain.”

Gilgamesh jerked his head as Kanda burst in out of nowhere, slicing clean through Gil’s armor. Panicking and taking a few steps back, Gilgamesh fired several weapons aimed towards the exorcist’s direction.

“You fucking inbred mongrel,” the King instinctively hissed, his old habits bleeding into his speech. “You want to see what a fucking King is made of? Here! Taste my wrath!” Behind Gilgamesh, enough weapons to field an army had appeared, ready to flood Kanda.

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Yu Kanda - 06-13-2018

Behind the outraged King of heroes, a series of golden glittering portals emerged. The sheer number of them would strike fear into the heart of many.

Kanda glanced over his shoulder at the chained up and morally tormented Mickey who had no place to run, nor the desire to. The pain the heroic mouse was experiencing wasn’t of any physical nature, yet he was clearly suffering. The honor-bound swordsman had no choice and took an audacious stance, covering his wounded ally. With arms wide open he welcomed Gilgamesh’s wrath as if he wanted to get on his King’s bad side.

“You’re a fool, Kanda….You will regret standing in my way.” Gil spat before unleashing hell. It was a fearsome sight; blades, spears, and daggers all shot towards the exorcist’s direction. Like a wounded animal, Desman desperately crawled on both his hands and feet to the side, avoiding the deadly barrage.

Right then the innocence power reacted. On both hands a visible stigmata symbol appeared, unleashing gushing fountains of blood originating from the marks. Together with the divine blue energy, it created a mahogany crystal to protect its user. The metallic sounds of weaponry clashing against the impenetrable cocoon was like a hailstorm of death that dissipated into silence. It was music to Kanda’s ears.

“Impossible!” Gilgamesh uttered with disbelief. Cracks appeared on the outer shell of the crystallized tomb before shattering into a thousand glass pieces and revealed an unscathed Kanda shooting a satisfied, somewhat mocking grin towards his King.

Desman got up his feet, looking unhappy yet eager to continue his assault. The swordsman turned to Mickey, now freed of his chains, the prime sat on his knees, staring into the abyss. Gilgamesh's words had its desired unfavorable effect of getting into the conflicted hero's mind. Kanda had been there, he recognized the struggles his partner went through. A fight with his inner demons. Kanda was determined to help him,….someday.

*SLAP*

"ENOUGH!" Kanda roared, "This is no time to wallow in your own sadness. Do that afterward when you’re alone. Be a man and suffer in silence. I need the warrior inside you to have my back!" The swordsman's whack combined with his harsh words snapped Mickey out of his trance.

“Bu-” His response got shut down by a second slap across the other cheek.

“No buts, I will deal with the ginger over there, you keep the pressure on Gilgamesh.” A reluctant nod was given.

“I will not be ignored by insects like yourself!” Gilgamesh bellowed with anger.

The captain ignored the outcry; three dots appeared in his eyes before shooting off towards Desman. “Oh, shit!” the redhead shouted before sending two shots Kanda’s way. Both were easily evaded by the experienced swordsman during his gap-closing rush. “Can’t we talk about thi-..URGH” With Desman’s windpipe being forced shut he was unable to finish his sentence.

After squeezing a few seconds longer Kanda forced the young prime into the ground. The exorcist current form was simply superior in every way. Yu forced his foot onto Desman’s chest, asserting his dominance.

“OOOOOOOW AAH OW OW” Desperate high pitched cries reached Kanda’s ears. The armored King managed to get a hold of Mickey's iconic saucers, spinning him around. The carousel of agony came to an abrupt halt, launching the prime towards Kanda, “Here! Catch!”

“Wooooaaaaaah! Incoming!!!” The mouse-like projectile screeched as he torpedoed forward.

To avoid a ring out Kanda had to stop it. With his sword in hand, catching was out of the question. He dug his foot into the squishy foundation, bracing himself.

*WHACK*

A direct hit from the projectile knocked them both down. A trail of blood found it’s way down Kanda's cheek. “What happened?!” The exorcist growled.

“I...I can't.” Mick sighed.

Kanda knew this wasn’t going to work, his partner’s heart was not in it anymore, “Alright, I got an idea.”

The strategist started whispering into Mickey’s ears. With each whispered word his Disney eyes grew larger. “Yeah! I can do that!”

The duo got back on their feet and while Desman was still gasping for air they charged Gilgamesh. Kanda spearheaded the attack, picking up speed while rushing the king. A sudden burst of acceleration made it appear as if there were multiple swordsmen stampeding towards Gilgamesh who, in turn, raised his own sword. Flashes of high-speed exorcists appeared around Gil. Yet, he remained calm and focused. It was the warrior inside him that Kanda couldn’t underestimate. The king’s eye shot to his right before striking and clashing swords, “Found you.” Gilgamesh proclaimed with pride.

“Only because I let you.” Replied an equally smug guard-captain right before Mickey seized his opportunity. A kick against the back of the knees forced the King to fall onto them, following up with a ‘nelson hold’. Mickey held on tight, turned his head and closed his eyes, “Do it now!”

“Unhand me you rotent!” The king’s struggle stopped when the, now grey-haired, Kanda appeared in front of him.

“Yield Gilgamesh.” The exorcist kindly suggested before forcing his fist into Gil’s most prized feature, his face.

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Desman Black - 06-15-2018

The boy laid on the ground, coughing up enough blood to make a human feel dizzy. ‘That’s not good…’ His mind told him, as he slowly got up ‘I might have held back a little too long…’ as soon as Des was able to get to two feet only, his knee gave out sending him back to the ground. ‘Okay…maybe a lot too long…’ At least I have adequate data… not that it would help much.

The stone area was too small and plain, forcing Desman to use close combat as the primary fighting style, erratically moving his weapon as he sized up his opponents, instead of hiding behind cover and placing timed strikes like he’s used to. To say this field put him at a disadvantage, especially against such skilled swordsmen, was an understatement. Saying it was an understatement was an understatement. But still, the male wasn’t going to give up that easily, not without trying every option.

That’s when the rest of the fighters caught his attention, his blonde ‘friend’ tied down by mickey as the samurai looking guy punched his face in. While it would've been a delight to sit there and watch, he needed the big guy or there was no way he would win this.

Without hesitation, portals appeared next to both opponents, this time a dimly lit grey instead of the blinding gold of the King’s. Out of these came a small barrage of assorted weapons, hitting both targets with enough force or annoyance to back away from their primary target.

Before either of them could serve back the pain to the wrong owner, a streak of red came along and snagged him, pulling the jerk like a ragdoll across the ground.

“Unhand me this moment child!” The man roared angrily, slapping the annoying boy away to get up.

“That’s… someway… to *cough* treat your rescuer.” Desman managed to weaze out before his semi-opaque manafashion of the carpet gave out, dumping him on to the floor with a thud.

“I don’t need to be rescued, especially not by pitiful child that grovels and runs away instead of fight.”

The red head shakaly got up, both him and Gilgamesh assuming that he would fall back down multiple times. Somehow he managed to stay upright. “I may be a child, but you need to grow up.”

Before the spoiled king could come back with a response, Desman had already rushed off towards their shared opponents.

In his left hand appeared his cutlass, it’s curved blade and handle familiar to him, despite never remembering where he sure the blade, it’s design seemed special to him, like a familiar and comforting thing in a world with with none. Just like…

His guard dropped as his mind took him in a direction he didn’t want it to go, a dark place without light, now that the last constant light he had had faded away.

Both mouse and man were confused when the male ran past without striking. But only one of them took the opportunity that had presented itself. While mickey hesitated due to recognizing the emotions in the redhead's eyes, Yu sent a blow to the poor man’s back, another cough of blood existing the mouth as he fell.

“Anything to say for yourself fool?” Kanda question, his blade havoring right next to the man’s throat.

“P-please just… just end me.” Desman sighed, his voice full of sorrow, hurt, and defeat. Not just defeat for the match, a defeat for everything.

“Pitiful child, pretending to be a man of war. I will fulfill your request, but only because death is the only thing people without honor like you deserve.” Up went the blue sword, it’s owner readying the strike for where on the neck not would be most painful, before swinging the weapon down in a quick, effortless, and dedicated motion.

Desman woke up, his surroundings black and devoid of motion, life, anything to signify the universe was still there. Only one thing could stand out in this darkness, and there it was, a light, it was so familiar. “I’m… I’m a dead?” Desman asked, before the light replied. Even without being it was saying, the voice was also familiar, and beautiful, given by angel who had too much of one. There was no mistaking it, it was…

“NO!” The female yelled. “Don’t come any closer. You have to fight the darkness, you can’t let it-” The voice, and the light, was gone as quickly as she appeared. Instead, a deeper voice talked to him.

“Pitiful children pretending their adults, always wanting the other to be happy. If I don’t want that interfering in my puppetry of you, looks like I’ll have to let you sit out for a while and think about your actions.

As the sword came down, Desman caught it in his exposed hand, blood oozing down to the tip of the sword, then sputtering everywhere as it’s master took up a defensive position.

“A knight and 2 kings… such fitting opponents for a chess master.”

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Mickey Mouse - 06-16-2018

Mickey’s gaze followed Desman as he sprinted past. Something tipped the boy over the edge, and in this moment, Mickey felt sorry for him.

In the next, the hulking form of Gilgamesh crashed into him with a deafening battle cry. The mesh of monarchs hurtled to the ground, Gilgamesh’s armored fist slamming repeatedly into Mickey’s face. Blood bubbled up inside his nose as the King of Heroes pounded away relentlessly. “This is for my people, rodent,” Gilgamesh snarled.

Mickey gawked up helplessly at Gilgamesh’s scarred face, his nose contorted in a strange direction thanks to Kanda’s forceful blow. As punch after punch worked to give the mouse a matching snout, a tear rolled down his cheek.

Why did he feel sorry for Gilgamesh?

One gloved hand gripped the ruler’s wrist mid-strike, the other pressing into his breastplate. “Thunder.”

A lightning bolt surged from the sky and struck Gilgamesh in the back. He screeched, spasming off of Mickey and onto his back. The mouse pushed himself into a standing position, the Star Seeker dragging against the ground.

Below him, Gilgamesh shook. Strange—the thunder spell’s effect shouldn’t have lasted so long. Was he… crying?

“What… happened to ya down there?” the mouse asked, in a sweeter tone than Gilgamesh deserved. “What did they do to ya?”

The mad king jerked away, fuming. “You can’t even imagine,” he spat. “That place has horrors you wouldn’t believe.”

Against his better judgment, Mickey found himself feeling something like sympathy for the King of Heroes. He’d never met anyone who’d survived the Underverse before—did anyone else even exist?—and he had no concept of what atrocities must lay within those unknown depths. “Try me, pal,” he offered, “I’m a pretty darn good listener.”

Gilgamesh looked up at Mickey, a deep scowl etched into his face. “No time,” he bristled, “I’ve still got to kill you.”

As the New Babylonian pulled himself off the ground, the former musketeer took a few tentative steps back. “Gilgamesh,” Mickey cautiously started, “we can stop this. There’s worse things in the world than either of us.”

“Down there? Sure,” Gil snapped, stalking towards him, “But up here… in front of my face… it’s all you, Mickey. You and that boy destroyed my city. You murdered my people. They are my treasures that cannot be fixed. Do you understand that no matter how hard I try to piece back together what you broke, I can never fully repair it?”

Gilgamesh lunged with a ferocious roar at Mickey Mouse, and the anthropomorphic rodent side-stepped out of the way, whacking the enraged royal in the spine with his keyblade. The strike launched a concave Gilgamesh forward. It was at this moment Mickey realized, as the King of Heroes sped toward certain defeat, just how perilously close to the edge of the ring they were.

“No!”

Mickey hopped into the air; underneath his feet, a magic carpet appeared, and he sped toward the edge of the ring, sheathing his keyblade and falling prone on the rug. He reached out and wrapped his fingers around Gilgamesh’s ankle, saving him just barely from elimination. He dragged him up onto the carpet, and immediately golden fingers ensnared one of his ginormous ears.

“Why would you do that?!” Gilgamesh screamed, pressing the mouse’s face into the carpet, “Why would you save me, when you had me defeated?!”

“I’m sorry, Gilgamesh,” Mickey squeaked, his voice a little muffled by the fabric, “I’m sorry about your city. Your people. About sending you to the Underverse. About everything.”

Gilgamesh sniffled frustratedly. “I don’t care if you’re sorry, mongrel,” he growled, leaning close to Mickey’s face. “You put me through hell—literally—and now, I’m going to destroy you.”

A burning sensation rang through Mickey’s ear as Gilgamesh tugged, hard, and tore it off the mouse’s head. Mickey Mouse screamed and clutched the spot on his skull where one of his huge, signature ears had once been; the mad king kicked a foot into his ribs, sending him flying off the carpet and rolling back onto the arena.

Blood pooled around his head as he uncontrollably wept, pain shooting from the stump and all down through his miniature body. The mouse’s remaining ear heard the clanking sounds of Gilgamesh’s golden boots hit the floor just a few meters away.

After everything, this wretched boy still wanted him dead. He hated him that much.

Was there no hope for change? No hope for redemption for the King of “Heroes”?

Mickey Mouse stood up.

Yu Kanda jabbed the hilt of his sword into Desman’s skull, subduing him for a split second while he rushed to his partner. “Mickey,” the exorcist urged, “Stay down, I can—”

“I have one rule, Kanda,” Mickey muttered, “No killing. Ever.”

He aimed the tip of his keyblade at Gilgamesh. Undeterred, his opponent broke into a sprint, rushing headlong at him.

Mickey Mouse sighed. Tears streamed down his face.

“I hate to make an exception.”

A flash of blinding yellow light erupted from the end of the keyblade and smashed into Gilgamesh.

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Gilgamesh - 06-17-2018

Gilgamesh strode forward to destroy the mouse, but suddenly, the beam of energy blasted into his chest. He raised his arm to shield his eyes from the intense light, but left his torso vulnerable to the attack’s blazing touch. The energy had begun to melt the Gilded King’s armor, as if it were butter, and singed his skin, blackening and burning his upper body. Then, as quickly as it came, the beam had passed, leaving the King of Heroes’ flat on the ground. His knees trembled as he made an effort to stand.

Breathing heavily, he glared up at Mickey, who stood there, infuriating the king with with his heroic and righteous demeanor. Gilgamesh scowled, of all the things about the Mouse, he hated that the most. Wobbling back onto his feet, he winced at the searing of his left breast. Glancing down, Gil’s heart dropped to his stomach; the brand of Diablo was proudly illuminating. From it, thick black mucus began to crawl and envelop around his skin.

Tossing the, comically large, mouse ear onto the floor, Gilgamesh hissed at Mickey, “This is why I will never forgive you.” The plague on his chest had already swallowed his torso and begun to creep up to his neck. It had begun to drip from his fingertips, leaving a pool of tar at his feet. Not far behind and trying to ensure his “partner’s” well-being, Desman rushed up to Gilgamesh. Gil waved his hand frantically, causing some of the mucus to sprinkle onto Desman’s face.

His voice gradually deepened, descending a few keys. The virus conquered his face as he sneered, “This is the monster you created Mickey. This is your fault!” As the black finally finished engulfing his body, Gilgamesh fell to his knees and grew silent. Yu Kanda and Mickey were both completely taken aback by the King’s transformation and remained silent in shock. Desman put a hand on Gil’s shoulder, nausea washing over him as his fingers felt drenched in something akin to wet glue.

The former King of Heroes had begun to shudder violently and his head shot up, glaring at his hated enemy. “Miiiiickeeeeeeeey!” the creature roared. Without any warning, the demon grabbed Desman’s leg and exploded with a speed that shocked both of his opponents. With each swift step towards his ultimate goal, Desman’s poor head bumped upon the stone tiles. Mickey had no time to react, as Gilgamesh swung Desman’s body like a limp, rag-doll at the Mouse. The Exorcist had a good reaction time, however, and managed to intercept the two King’s, taking the brunt of the hit. The force of the attack pushed them both to the edge of the arena, with Mickey hanging onto Kanda’s neck, and his feet dangling off the edge.

The demon grunted, clearly upset that both of his opponents hadn’t been destroyed in one fell swoop. Gilgamesh dashed towards his foes, while Desman desperately hit at Gilgamesh’s hand, demanding to be released. Gil ignored him however and swung his human maul overhead. Kanda successfully evaded the blow, letting Desman smash painfully into the ground. With Mickey still attached like a necklace, Kanda stuck his sword deep into the former monarch’s side. Gilgamesh let out a hideous shriek and reflexively swung his fist into Kanda’s face, flinging him across the battlefield. The Swordsman and the Mouse both skidded across the ground, leaving them scraped and bruised.

With those nuisances out of the way, the demon took attention to the pain in his side. Gritting his teeth, the former king ripped the sword out from his intestines and revealed that the black sludge had stained the blade. As Kanda stood up, he clutched his head. Gilgamesh tossed the bloodied weapon over and grunted at the swordsman, “Take...back...pathetic...sword.” Dangling at his side, Desman continued his incessant punches into Gilgamesh’s torso. “Let me go!” the former robot shouted.

“Take...him too,” Gil said as he tossed Desman across the arena and into Mickey’s chest. Both the Mouse and Desman let out an audible, “Ow!” as their bodies crashed into one another. Gilgamesh began to float off the ground, outstretching his arm, and beckoning one of his treasures to come to him. Out of a large portal, came a giant blade. Gilgamesh took hold of the enormous scythe, however, the weapon blackened at his very touch, giving it the same aesthetic that Gilgamesh had.

The heavy weapon seemed weightless in his hands and without warning, he flew towards Kanda with amazing speed. The swordsman prepared his blade to block the King’s attack, but Gilgamesh effortlessly weaved over his head. Kanda’s eyes widened as Gilgamesh’s feet touched the ground behind him. The demon brought back his colossal scythe and swung it directly into Kanda’s shoulder. The black tar had begun to latch itself onto Kanda. He scowled as the filth had begun climbing onto him and dashed far from the King. Gil brought down the scythe and licked the blood that had gathered on the blade. Growling at Kanda, his pure red eyes seemed to flicker, “Tasty.”

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Yu Kanda - 06-18-2018

*drip*

*drip*

A pool of blood converged around the exorcist’s boots. His left arm dangled at his torso’s side. Trying to move the incapacitated limb caused nothing but excruciating pain.

To Kanda, it was still incomprehensible. The man he swore allegiance to, now a demon himself. Conflict reverberated within him, was he to slay the king as to his exorcist code; or does he honor his oath to the king.

Kanda observed the demon take to the sky, emitting a deep roar through the arena. For some, this may appear as a victorious shout, to Yu it was a desperate cry for help. He knew what needed to be done.

The swordsman dragged his impaired body over towards the floored Disney hero. When a shadow appeared across Mickey’s face, he glanced up, noticing his partner’s hand reaching out to him, “If it’s redemption you seek, help me save his soul from damnation.” The exorcist’s words were a godsend. Offering atonement for the nightmare that has been haunting Mickey ever since he condemned the king of heroes to the underverse.

The keyblade hero was without words. Wistful tears appeared in his eyes before he took a firm grasp of Kanda’s hand. One swift, firm pull got the mouse back up on his feet. In spite of Mickey’s downtrodden countenance, Yu was able to see the conviction burning within the wounded prime.

Kanda shouted towards the abused ginger who’s body laid battered upon the tarnished stone floor, “This isn’t some game anymore kid. You either help us save your partner or stay the hell out of our way. Got it?!” Without bothering to look up or move the rest of his body Desman simply responded with a casual thumbs up.

Above them, Gilgamesh’s vigorous battle cry send a clear message: they were out of time.

Yu turned back to his partner. Mickey’s heavy breathing calmed down gradually when he noticed one of Kanda’s extremely rare soft smiles. The mysterious prime seemed at peace, reaching a place of zen within his own soul. Combined with his strong posture it appeared as if he was emitting a strong serene aura. Sparks of innocence unexpectedly emerged from God’s chosen champion.

The divine aqua colored energy engulfed the exorcist. Wrapping itself around the holy warrior, sculpting an angelic body in which Kanda himself slowly vanished from sight. Vast feathered wings of sparking energy sprouted from his back, completing the holy form.

Mickey’s jaw dropped. An angel was sent to help him fight the evil within Gilgamesh. The mute warrior from the heavens kneeled, hinting the mouse to get on his back. Without hesitation, he climbed on.

A symbolic manifestation of the most ancient of conflicts was about to unfold for everyone to see. Good versus evil, angels and demons, heaven against hell.

“COME AT ME!!” The demon cried out impatiently.

“Let’s go, pal!” Mickey shouted, straddling the Exorcist as if he were some divine steed. The angel took to the skies, his ascent calm until he locked onto his demonic target. The Angel soared for the fallen King, his partner clinging on for dear life upon his back. Closing the gap in the blink of an eye, the Demon got taken aback by Kanda’s abrupt arrival.

Gilgamesh countered, throwing his body towards the imposing threat. Both primes thrust their weapons forward, producing a catastrophic clash of strength. The crackling sound of the innocence energy pressing against the blackened weapon of the demon echoed through the arena. Their balance in strength was undeniable, which infuriated the beast even more.

“You...insects. Just die!” The demon dug deep and managed to push the angel back. Mickey used the swordsman's one good shoulder as a stepping stone, jumping upwards. Gilgamesh was unable to follow his rival as he found himself surrounded by the exorcist high-speed afterimage ability. Several strikes were aimed at the demon, who was skillful enough to deflect some of the blows even if he was unable to see them coming.

“It's time to stop Gilgamesh!” the familiar high pitched voice shouted overhead. The demon king glanced up. Mickey stood on the Arabian carpet, keyblade in hand pointed towards him. “FIRE!” The mouse bouldered before releasing a ball of fire.

It was the perfect distraction allowing Kanda to get into prime position. Guiding his holy weapon through the outer black goo, penetrating deep enough to carve a flesh canyon alongside the demon’s spinal cord. Gilgamesh shrieked when skin and slime alike separated, revealing his insides through the gaping wound.

Gilgamesh descended from the heavens like a fallen deity, followed swiftly by the angel of salvation and his one-eared partner. Gil’s “landing” was followed by Kanda crashing into him, nailing him to the ground by forcing his katana through the mad king’s bicep. The king’s cries send a chill down Kanda’s spine.

Mickey assisted, using all of his remaining strength to keep Gilgamesh down as he peered over to the redheaded prime, who was simply gawking. “We need your help, Desman! Help us save him!” The mouse cried out desperately, hoping to appeal to the humanitarian within the ginger.

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Desman Black - 06-20-2018

Desman felt something within him as mickey’s pleas reached his ears. It felt like a weight had been lifted and taken away, but it didn’t leave a hole, it stayed full of something much light, maybe even light itself.

“Okay…” Des said, he voice low and concentrated as he walked over to in front of the demon, trying to shake the samurai off his back. “I need both of you to stand back, If anyone is gonna get hurt by this plan it’s me.”

“But this is my fault.” The mouse said, reluctant about the situation.

“And it will be my fault if you’re hurt by this, NOW GO!” Desman demanded. “You too Kanda!”

The black haired male stared at the boy for a minute, before agreeing with whatever plan he had to save his lord, and letting go of the beast that trapped him.

The demon pounced, the two partners soon positioning together like predator and pray. The boy only had one shot at this. One movement to make it right before the haunted king made himself a new main course course. The gooey arm of who was once gilgamesh went up for the killing blow… and then stopped.

The eyes of the beast widened, before lowering his hand down slowly like he was gonna touch it, make sure it’s real, but never quite getting there. “You… too?”

“Yeah… me too?” The redhead said, putting the frightened man’s hand onto the exposed chest, letting him feel the branding was real. “And guess right? I was able to fight it. I know you won’t forget it, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it control you. Resist it, and be Gilgamesh, not the monster…”

“What about… fight?” Desman could hear Gilgamesh coming back to senses from the voice. The boy needed to pick his words carefully or this would all be for nothing.

“Would you really want to win like this? As a puppet to something or someone else. Do you really think you would count this as your win after this is all done?”

The cursed man stepped up off his mediator, staring down with a new look in his eyes, one of a new goal. “Your right… I have to… learn to control…”

While the redhead didn’t get the outcome he was looking for, he knew that the man had in him what it would take to control and be at peace with the darkness. For he himself had done it. “All right… let’s get this over with then.” Gilgamesh put his hand up to help his new partner up. Desman sat up before swinging his arm around to accept their help. The hand landed in the black goop, it’s sliminess splattering everywhere and slipping through the gaps between the poor human’s fingers. “On second thought maybe I’ll get up myself…”

As soon as both characters had got up, their familiar swords soon found their way to the owners hands. They were noticeably different though. Gilgamesh’s weapon was covered in the same black goop as his body, and instead of the grey it had been up to this point, Desman’s sword was a dark black color, almost completely undermining the transparentness it had.

Gilgamesh was the first to rush forward, his direction aimed towards the mouse. A subconscious growl escaping his mouth before he shook it off. No one was going to control him today.

Desman just let his samurai opponent come to him. His blade ready to slay what he thought of as a traitor. “Why is my king still a demon!?” the man demanded, his sword swinging done only to be just blocked by the smaller sword.

The foot of the defender launched into the samurai's stomach, pushing him back. “Your king would not calm done as long as mickey was here. The only thing I could do was see he could control it, instead if letting it control him.”

“I have one question then… Which one of you helped out my king.” The blades once clashed against each other, sparks flying as much as a saw on metal.

“Do you think someone so evil… would help out a stranger?”

RE: [Round 1] Mickey & Yu Kanda vs Gilgamesh & Desman - Karl Jak - 06-20-2018

Face to Face
#16 Mickey Mouse & #01 Yu Kanda vs #02 Gilgamesh & #13 Desman Black

Quote:Mickey Mouse watched as the horrific form of demon Gilgamesh sprinted at him. The dark force wrapping itself around him had been subdued for the moment, but the mouse knew he’d have to find a way to keep it from taking the gilded king’s mind for good.

“Come,” Gilgamesh shouted, “Meet your maker, mouse.”

“You’ve got Walt on speed dial?!”

The demon swiped at Mickey, who flipped into the air and landed squarely on the man’s shoulders. The black goop stuck to his shoes and Mickey almost threw up in his mouth.

Gilgamesh’s cursed hand reached for the Mouse’s feet but Mickey was too nimble. Mickey evaded with a swift jump, the muck on Gilgamesh’s body sticking to his shoe like old gum. Gilgamesh seethed at Mickey, “You will lose this fight, rodent!” The pint-sized prime, however, was too jaded from the fight to reply. His face had a permanent frown attached, even as he so skillfully evaded each and every one of the King’s attacks. Kicking off Gilgamesh’s head, Mickey did a backflip and pointed his keyblade at Gilgamesh.

“Fire!” Mickey shouted, unleashing an inferno on its path to the Gilded Monarch. Leaning back and barely avoiding the attack, Gilgamesh let the ball of fire fly past him towards the other pair of primes.

Desman Black, finally feeling the fighting spirit after discovering he and the demonic king had something in common, clashed his elemental cutlass against Yu Kanda’s blade. The swordsman glanced to the side and caught a glimpse of the fireball approaching them.

He stepped backwards. “Come and get me, Desman,” he taunted, and the former robot lunged forward just in time to be caught in the path of the spherical inferno.

The boy, his clothes and skin burning, rolled across the tile, stopping just before reaching the ring’s edge. When he opened his eyes, the captain of the Nippur guard stood over him, with a sad scowl.

“I must save him,” Kanda said, almost apologetically. “If you know what’s good for you—you’ll fight back against that demonic presence, too. I’m sorry, boy.”

Yu Kanda lifted a leg.

“No!” the redhead cried out, but it was too late; Kanda’s foot swung down and into his abdomen, knocking him out of the ring and into the grass.

The swordsman turned his attention back to his partner. Time to save Gilgamesh.

Gilg was already on the advance, his stained blades swinging mercilessly onto Mickey’s keyblade. The pint-sized prime flinched at every harsh swing, slowly retreating towards the edge of the arena. Kanda flew towards the pair of fighting Kings, brandishing his sword. Gilgamesh could sense his presence and with one swooping motion, pulled the exorcist out of the sky and roughly tossed him onto the ground.

“I am tired of your interference, Kanda,” Gilgamesh growled at his captain. Mickey, trying to help his partner, lunged at the King. Gil sidestepped the mouse, leaving him to faceplant into the ground.

Holding onto the swordsman’s collar, Gilgamesh raised him off the ground. Kanda’s hands futilely struggled to free himself from Gil’s grip, but had no success. Gilgamesh seethed at Kanda, “I have a debt to settle.”

“I have a soul to save,” Kanda replied.

“Tch. You know nothing Kanda,” Gil mumbled before gathering his strength and tossing Kanda out of the arena and into the stadium wall.

Gilgamesh turned back to his prey. Now, it was only them.

“No one to protect you now, Mouse,” he snarled. “No Kanda. No robot boy. Just you and me.”

Mickey Mouse wouldn’t lie—he was terrified. He gulped loudly as Gilgamesh launched his body towards him, dodging to the left and watching as the mad king slowed to a stop just before the ring’s edge. He turned around.

“You can’t win, Mickey,” the monarch barked.

“Don’t you get it, Gilgamesh?” Mickey shouted back, “It isn’t about winning, pal. Never has been.”

“Then what is it about, cur?” Gilgamesh sneered.

“Doing the right thing.” the mouse king said. “You always seemed like a pretty bad dude to me, but when I came back to Nippur, when I tried to help your people pick up the pieces, I saw how much they adored you. That means you must do the right thing sometimes, Gilgamesh.”

“Wait—you what? You… went back to Nippur?” Gilgamesh blinked in disbelief. “To… help my people?”

“Yeah, we got run out of there, but we tried,” Mickey shrugged. “They were innocent. Seemed like the right thing to do.”

Gilgamesh paused in his tracks, feeling conflict within. Mickey had stayed after his banishment. While this didn’t change how he personally felt about the mouse, the action gave him strange... comfort. Shaking his head to try and rid himself of this feeling, he continued to advance towards the Mouse.

Mickey watched as the hulking form of demon Gilgamesh lurched toward him, roaring with unbridled rage. The mouse ducked beneath another lunge from the maddened monarch, lifting his keyblade and releasing another huge arc of yellow energy. Gilgamesh turned on his heel, lifting his claws and catching the beam with his bare hands.

The two primes stared each other down, the burning light of the Yellow Kingdom Hearts connecting them like the chains of their rivalry had all these years.

And then, in a single instant, the blast exploded, taking their rivalry with it. Mickey Mouse and Gilgamesh flew backward, evenly matched, each overpowered by the other, and landed squarely outside the ring.

Mickey’s eyes flickered open seconds later, and he moved his fingers to clutch the ground beneath him, almost thankful for the end of this saga. But instead of grass, the mouse’s gloved hand ensnared a clump of Yu Kanda’s tunic.

Shocked, Mickey stood up to find the swordsman lying beneath him, a smile on his face. None of the mouse’s body parts had touched the outside of the arena.

Gilgamesh was not so lucky.
