I'll try my best to have an edit up within 24 hours.

I spoke to some other mods, and, yeah. You can't have a super move to game your way past spending OM in this way. The general precedent for variable weapon moves lies with Thaal's move, here (he's inactive now):

Hard-Light Weapons – 900 OM (Requires Physical Strength)

Sinestro can create melee weapons from Hard-Light in most forms that a melee weapon can come in. These can be short (like a dagger), medium (like a sword) or long (like a spear) in length. The more energy he puts into these weapons, the harder they are to break but the more physically and mentally exhausted he becomes. These weapons will immediately dissipate upon his breaking his concentration for any reason.

So, basically, you could easily have something similar. Like (I've tried to copy your wording as best as I can here):

Break and Mend, Taroba! (900) Requires: Physical Strength

Shio's weapon, referred to as a zanpakuto, is far more than a mundane sword by most standards. While it has no inherent powers, and is good only for rending flesh in the hands of others, to Shio it contains a reflection of his 'self'. Much the same way that water takes the shape of the container it's put into, Shio poured a portion of his soul and identity into the blade, allowing it to take on an identity separate from himself. By invoking its name deliberately, he can cause it to melt and run, as if it were made of candle wax. Once this is done, he can reform it into other rigid melee weaponry. This can be short (like a dagger), medium (like a sword), or long (like a spear) in length. This process takes up to a second. By efficiently swapping his weaponry from close-range for assassination purposes to mid-range, keeping his opponent at the heft of a spear, Shio is able to deal with opponents with frightening versatility. Each weapon comes with the benefits you'd expect. A larger sword would hit harder, but slower. A dagger would be quicker, but have shorter range, and so on. Another benefit of this move is in Shio's own ability to follow through on his intuition, allowing him to make his weapon more slender or precise, to better slip through the eye slot of a suit of armour, or to maintain distance with someone he doesn't wish to get within arm's reach of. He can alter the form of his weapon as often as he likes, although doing so costs a small amount of energy. Under normal circumstances, he cannot make his weapon larger than 12ft long.

The 12ft size cap is because 12ft is the furthest you can hit without ranged prof. But, this should pretty much let you have any reasonable melee weapon. It looks wordy since I kept in your description. Just note that you'd need an additional move, or need to make changes if you wanted to get ranged weapons, or throw something you make with this. You're also not going to be able to make it into a shield, nor a whip or anything whip-like (to swing it at someone's leg and trip them up). This is just for rigid-stuff like a glorified weird-shaped stick. But not a flail or set of nunchucks, or anything with chain - really. You'd need another move for stuff like that.
