Mustang may be an alchemist, but he's a soldier as well, which means having to keep fit, so he'd likely have 2 DEF. That's hardly the ultimate glass cannon.

I prefer Mustang, and I reckon it wouldn't be nearly as hard as you think to play him.

P.S. The whole squad wouldn't need to be assists; once forces are released you could just buy some of those.
