My Hero Academy (episode 4): This show just gives me the warm fuzzies!
Yes, I said it, I am not ashamed.
I love this show never forgets about heroism. It never forgets what it all takes; the drive to act, the willingness to risk anything for another life, and the power to inspire others. God, I’ve talked about this before, it’s so refreshing considering the current climate of the superhero genre.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
As I should start with ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCCH!
Wait, no, that’s still getting ahead of myself.
Of course, being thrown into the fray with no experience with his new quirk whatsoever, he completely gets left behind. Funny it just goes straight into the combat. Were they worried the written test might impair their abilities?
Creative powers this episode! Of course, Gravity Girl is my favorite, racking up kills with her mad gravity skills! No, she’s not my fav because he design is cute, shut up! Don’t accuse me of being so petty! It’s not like I openly admitted to being a pervert in a recent review or something.
Oh.
WELL GRAVITY GIRL IS OFF LIMITS! SHE IS R34 RETARDANT! ONLY PURENESS! I WILL PUNCH ANYONE THAT CHANGES THAT!
We get a reaffirming of episode 2. As soon as he saw Gravity Girl was in trouble, his legs took off, but this time… this time….
ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCHHHH!!!! Oh my god that was awesome! So incredibly I almost completely looked past the clenching your butt line.
And his frikkin’ arms and legs are broken, glorious! And it makes sense considering what the All Right said about consequences. This is pretty practical.
I like how he was coming up with a complex plan to stop himself with a punch, and yet he was saved with a slap.
Oh man, and the aftermath. It was kind of fun when everyone was discussing the hero, even wondering if his fidgety demeanor was a ruse. Yeah, he’s going to be notorious in this school.
Even more fun was that one guy who pointed out how the hero just charged in without thinking. He was more concerned about the bravery behind the act and not the act itself. I’m going to like that guy. Kind of curious where his relationship with the protag will go.
Oh yeah, grandma. No one tell the hero how his bones healed.
Of course, he was going to get into school, aspects of this show are predictable, but they do it so incredibly well I don’t give a shit. And I like how Gravity Girl tries to offer her own points. I’m glad she got in as well!
This show is a genuine treat <3
Konosuba (episode 2): I have to say, enjoyed this way more than the first episode! I know I’m giving away my feelings too early in the review, but still…
Thankfully the inexplicable butt shots were at a minimum, so I could pay more attention to the plot with little distraction.
I liked the protag’s musings about how adventurers are just basically temp workers with no job security. You know, I haven’t really thought of “Adventurer” as a job title in the sense of a clerk or janitor. Or in cases where it has been considered, it’s usually a highly lucrative job.
I remember in the pathfinder beginner’s campaign, it specifically says at the end of the journey you make 10x more on gold than you’ve ever owned your whole life just from one dungeon raid. Heck, with the profession skill, you’re lucky if you’re even doing a piece of gold a day at all, meanwhile a level 2 adventurer would have 1,000 gold in their pocket already.
Konosuba gives way more credence to a stable life. It’s almost a better idea for our heroes to give up on killing the demon king and settle. I mean, what are they going to get by it anyways? Aqua goes back to greeting dead people for the rest of eternity, and the protag goes back to being dead.
It’s kind of funny Aqua is more motivated than the protag during this adventure. Kind of feels like she’s more in it for fun than desperation to return to her old role. It’s understandable, here she’s free to go places, hang out of bars, and just be with people.
And that brings us to the giant frogs. They were fun. Kind of odd Aqua’s uber l33t attacks had absolutely no effect whatsoever, but it’s still a funny little gag. Also, the fact the frogs froze in place while they ate gave the protag a chance to actually do something for a change.
And then we have a demon wizard. She’s cute! She also kind of reminds me of that wizard guy from 8-but Theater. How he fills all his spell slots with magic that could end the world and has next to nothing else to help the party. Very similar concept, except the wizard here is completely unable to find a group willing to take her along. Yeah, that makes sense…
I like the effects on the explosion magic. Yeah, I can’t imagine that being useful in a dungeon. Makes me wonder if anyone is going to be particularly useful in this show.
Then again, that brings us to the Crusader. She’s got a bit of a stutter. Is that her thing; the face of the group having no charisma at all? I guess we’ll find out next time!
As stated, I had a lot more fun with this episode! I look forward to more!
I have work tomorrow, so we'll see if I can get more episodes in or not!
