I think willpower is a bad descriptive word, but it's the one DC went with. I think a Green Lantern fuels their power with a combination of determination and focus. The Green Lanterns, I think, are fueled by stubbornness, pride, and courage which I think are emotions. "Willpower" is a catch-all for these emotions.
As for joy = Superspeed and flight. When I think happiness, I think freedom. Kind of like the airbenders from Atla? You know, I just feel that a character fueled by hapiness would be carefree, and would have a skill-set that allows them to avoid danger more than anything else.
This seems like a really cool idea. Is it for the Omniverse in particular, or just an original story you've been thinking of?
