Gaston sat next to a pile of boxes, his mirror out, sighing.
"Why would they sentence us to such a menial task? All we do is load these boxes all day!" he complained, scrolling through a short guide to summoning things on his mirror.
"Well why don't you just shut the hell up, little boy?" Gaston's partner in the service centre pointed a finger-gun at his head and mouthed the word 'bang,' an irritated look on his face. "They might hear us, throw us into the normal prison. And trust me, I ain't going back to normal prison." Gaston sighed, shaking his head.
"That's the problem with you criminals! You always complain at the consequences of your unjust actions! The Beast in my world did the same, and so do you!"
"Aren't you a criminal too?" Gaston glared at him, annoyed by his logic.
"That was different! I was falsely accused!"
"Shut up, boy. I'm tired of you talking."
"I will not listen to you!" The man pulled out a knife from a box and pointed it at Gaston, to which he jumped backward.
"Haha! It's fake, bitch!" he said. Gaston scowled, looking back at the guide. He was having trouble reading it (after all, there were no pictures!), but he figured it out, mostly. The 'Omnlium' mentioned by the one who had brought Gaston to this place could be used to summon things, provided you concentrate on it. All together, it seemed very useful. Focusing for a moment, Gaston closed his eyes, thinking about what he wanted to summon: his bow, a quiver full of arrows, and his blunderbuss. He held out his hands and began to zone out, his mind only focused on the shape and size of the objects. Unaware of how long it had taken, Gaston opened his eyes, looking down into his lap where the objects were sitting. He strapped the quiver and bow onto his back, grinning. The first part of his journey back to glory!
But before he could put his blunderbuss away, and get back to work, Gaston looked out the window of the small centre, seeing a man getting approached by a woman carrying a knife.
"Listen man. I don't want any trouble, just give me the money, and you're good," the woman said, speaking in a business like manner.
"I...I swear, I don't have any today! I..I just gotta do this one job, and I'll pay you, I..I swear!" he replied, panicking as he backed up.
"That's what you said last time. Now, are you gonna pay, or is this gonna be messy?" The man yelled out in terror and broke into a sprint, trying to get quickly away from the woman. Seeing enough, Gaston stood up swiftly. Finally, a chance to prove himself as a hero! He ran out of the door as fast as possible, yelling back at his partner,
"Don't let them know I'm gone!" before quickly exiting the service centre. He ran as quickly as he could (not very fast, though; he never did do much running) toward the woman, aiming his blunderbuss as he ran. Initially, he aimed it toward her head, ready to kill, but soon remembered: even if just, unless you were in a certain position of power, you could not kill someone without consequences. So, he shot at her foot once he got close enough, causing her to fall over from her running. Shocked, she snarled and turned her head, staring at Gaston.
"Who are you with?! The Jacks? Orcs? Trust me, whoever you're with, I'll pay double! Just don't turn me in!" Gaston was confused for a moment. The Jacks? The Orcs? Strange names, to be sure. Likely other groups of criminals! But Gaston was no criminal.
"I most certainly am not part of either of those odd groups! I am here because I am a hero, and I will protect this man!"
"Fuck... one of these..." the woman said to herself. "Look, man. I kind of have to rob these guys; I got into this gang, and there's really no other way for me to get money, and survive. So, you gonna let me go?" She attempted to appeal to Gaston's sympathy, but to no avail.
"Shut up! I will decide if you can leave! And I say no!" He kicked the woman's injured leg, causing her to wince, and walked over to the man she had threatened, as he had stopped running to watch Gaston. "You! Are you okay?"
"Y...yeah, I think so."
"Why was she asking you for money? Did you owe her for something?"
"N...no, well, yeah, sort of. Th..they make us pay, and then if we don't th...they kill us. I...I tried to pay them on time, but I just had to get food and... and I couldn't muster enough credits for them. Thanks, for saving me. I can't really pay you, but I'm sure I can do something," Gaston shook his head.
"No worries! Just spread the word: if ever there is an injustice, call on Gaston, for he is a hero! That is enough to pay me! For I do not do this for money, but merely for the good of you all, and if you spread my name I can help more of you!"
"Y...yeah, I will." The man, slightly weirded out by Gaston's hubris, walked away quickly, heading back to his home. For Gaston, this was a glorious occasion! He had spread his name further, and was rebuilding his legacy, even if he was in a strange, new world!
"So, back to work then, so I don't get in further trouble with the law!" But as Gaston spoke to himself, he looked back at the woman, seeing she had just put her phone away, and was grinning. "What is so amusing?" he demanded, but then she smirked further, so he turned to his side, seeing a large man with a metal baseball bat, running straight for him!
