Well... I suppose that it's time to let the cat out of the bag: I've been planning for a while to get an event underway in conjunction with the Shardworld (which I doubt many of you know or remember). This thread will keep a tab of all the relevant information for staff to review and approve (or not), as well as function as an interest check for all of you.
This thread is also a call-out to staff to make sure that the event neither collides with existing content or planned events (to my current knowledge there is none, but that may change) and to let me know if anything needs to be changed before the event is okayable! Non-staff pointing out errors is more than welcome too, of course.
WARNING!
I have spoiler'ed a number of parts to keep things interesting for you. If you want to avoid spoiling its contents (such as what rewards await the winners) don't open them.
In short, I would like to take a stab at organizing events, but due to my inexperience I want to keep things modestly sized. The idea is that, in order to raise funds and awareness, a Dataverse convention is organized, whose major attraction will be a tournament in the same vein as the Camelot Colosseum.
The timeframe: sometime in September to October 2017 would be when it starts. To avoid peppering our members with events left and right I would likely leave a breathing room of a few months to run this after DA 2017.
The details:
Aeris, the Prime who has been working on the Shardworld VR MMORPG in the Dataverse for years now, needs a large sum of Omnilium to push the project to completion. In order to gather this sum and simultaneously raise awareness for the upcoming Shardworld game, she is organizing an exclusive convention, the ShardCon, which takes place entirely in the Dataverse, allowing people to inform themselves about the Shardworld, its current state of development, features etc. It's essentially an E3, Blizzcon or Gamescom but for a single game rather than a multitude.
The main attraction of the convention will however be a combat tournament in which participants participate through VR, using the Shardworld "arena" module as the groundwork - again, promoting the game's technology (in short, the Shardworld is supposed to offer a PvP mode where players who meet in the game can set up an arena and battle. This mode is used as the tech-base for the tournament). Like the Camelot Colosseum, it's an elimination tournament of 1v1 battles, with one champion at the end. All participants are given Early Access to the Shardworld. Those who last longer are given additional unique cosmetic rewards in the game.
Due to the Camelot Colosseum having generated a lot of positive attention for Camelot Emperor Palpatine has agreed to sponsor the convention, even providing protected VR stations in Coruscant for participants of the tournament, though of course individuals wanted or generally disliked by the Empire should think twice about taking up the offer. As a result of the sponsoring the Empire is allocated a number of spaces in the VR zone to promote their facilities and generally generate publicity. Of course, the rumor mill has it that Emperor Palpatine feels like the Kingdom is approaching the Empire in terms of popularity and wants to increase that gap again, or that he may be looking to use the Shardworld for the goals of the Empire.
As for Dante's Abyss and the Camelot Colosseum, the convention and especially the tournament are broadcasted live through the Dataverse and in a number of public areas in Coruscant, generating further income with large-screen tickets, confectionery and fast food as well as Empire-regulated bets.
Who can participate?
Only player Primes are allowed to participate.
If the number is something unfit for a straight tournament an elimination round will be held - Perhaps involving the participants being picked by a vote (as an "ask the viewers" vote, where all Omniversians can cast an anonymous vote for who they want to see in the tournament). Alternatively the last sign-ups would have to do an extra round to reduce the number of participants to 8/16/32.
Should there be a maximum number of participants?
For obvious reasons judges are not allowed to participate in the tournament even if they only judge fights other than their own.
Combat Restrictions due to Virtual Reality
Participants must use a private or Empire-provided VR station. Dataverse Uplink stations would give an unfair advantage to a tournament intended to be fair.
(to clear: can Primes using an Uplink Device be "toned down" to VR levels of strength to be on equal footing?)
Combat Rules
Fighters are pitted against each other randomly and entered into a standard elimination tournament roster.
Fights are judged as per the site's standards. Judges are TBD (volunteers are more than welcome - but keep in mind that judging means you can't participate in the tournament).
The standard 3 round, 800 word limit, 2 day time limit (3 days if we get 16 or less signups) applies.
Each arena represents one of the major battles that took place during the God War over Adalor before the Reality Shatter. The arenas (".lsf" stands for landscape file) have random elements enabled depending on the location.
As an additional publicity and showcase that the players can reshape the Shardworld with their actions, the outcomes of each battle will influence the initial distribution of territories in the Shardworld to each god.
Arena Distribution:

Reference (Note: All gods are self-proclaimed):
Gruul = God of battle, appears as an orcish brute. Title "God Warchief"
Ga'Lin = God of destruction, appears as an unstable cloud of dark matter.
God of Order = God of order, has no known name.
Skrael = Goddess of intelligence and wisdom, appears as a Beholder. Rivals Uthaz.
Uthaz = God of cunning and wit, appears as a skull with three eyesockets, one on the forehead.
Yari = Magic water goddess, looks like a mermaid.
Beach_Storming.lsf - One of the first important battles: the storming of the beach of one of Yari's main outposts, Huu. Gruul's ships are at the shore which is defended by Yari's water mages. The arena is a shore with one large ship on it. Gruul and Yari are wrestling above, occasionally one will advance or withdraw and their feet would flatten part of the arena.
Gruul VS Yari
Meteor_Storm.lsf - The assault of Ga'Lin on Gruul's bastion island, attacking while Gruul was supposedly busy elsewhere but came back to defend in time. Ga'Lin is bombarding Gruul's forces with fiery meteors, which Gruul is whacking away with a club (looks as if they play baseball). The debris is raining down on the battlefield, leaving craters and smouldering piles, constantly shifting the battlefield.
Gruul VS Ga'Lin
Lightning_Island.lsf - Uthaz and Skrael are having a battle of minds in the skies. Their immense strength is lifting up numerous small islands which act as conduits for lightning bolts that randomly hit everywhere, indiscriminately hitting friend and foe and gradually reducing the battlefield's size as the islands are shattered.
Uthaz VS Skrael
Mud_Trenches.lsf - A pair of elite assassin units sneaking around to hit the respective other's command posts met here. The battlefield has many trenches in disservice. Periodically it is flooded as collateral magic from the main battlefield hits.

Death, Banishment and Bounties
-To have later fights remain interesting the winners are fully healed after a fight. Their SP are also restored. It is encouraged to go all-out in every battle.
-Because all participants are in VR mode it is not possible to kill or banish an opponent. One can however "kill" their VR avatar.
-Claiming a bounty is impossible for the same reasons, although sneaky bounty hunters may use the time while their targets are in the VR tournament to track them down.
Rewards:
-All participants get Early Access to the Shardworld and are able to explore the game before it is opened to the masses, simultaneously serving as a tech test (2ish months of real-world time). In a similar way to Dante's Abyss, the participants also get an action figure, T-Shirt or some other merchandise themed after them, as a complimentary reward.
The participants are allowed to "invite" two more people into the Early Access with them. (This is a way for players to send in a Secondary or NPC Prime to play in the Shardworld Early Access rather than committing their Prime to it, or to play with other characters of their own. As an OOC rule, you are only allowed to invite NPC Primes or Secondaries that you own, not other players or their characters)
The winners additionally are awarded Shardworld-specific "awards":
-The 8 fourth-to-last-round Winners get an easter-egg camp somewhere in the "wildlands" of the game, with eight characters which are named after them.
-The 4 third-to-last-round Winners get an NPC of their choice named after them (this can even be a major NPC, like a king), or if they prefer they can pick a name for that NPC (something lore-friendly).
-The 2 second-to-last-round Winners get to name an ingame boss after themselves, or if they prefer they can pick a name for that boss (something lore-friendly).
-The Champion gets a unique "Shardworld Champion" medal both in the real world and for their Shardworld character - this is a bragging rights reward. Furthermore, some NPCs are given voicelines in which they speak of the Champion as a great hero(ine).
TO-DO List:
-Aeris must be rewritten to be a suitable Site NPC inhabiting the Dataverse, for integrity purposes when writing the Shardworld.
-Alternatively to that, should Aeris be made into a Site account like Karl Jak or the Storyteller? Who would the account be accessible to?
-Finish the arena designs (based on battles of the Shardworld lore, aiding to shape the history)
TO CLEAR List:
-Can participants using an Uplink Device be "toned down" to VR levels of strength to be on equal footing?
-Can participants bring and use Artefacts, if they don't have the risk of losing them?
This thread is also a call-out to staff to make sure that the event neither collides with existing content or planned events (to my current knowledge there is none, but that may change) and to let me know if anything needs to be changed before the event is okayable!
