Interest Check: Upcoming Saga
#1
Saga: Dark Data
[Image: latest?cb=20141014045912]

Saga Runner: The Artist Formerly Known as Adam
Saga Focus: PvE/Co-op
Saga Start Date: Early 2017

Basic Premise

Several incidents of varying nature have occurred throughout the Omniverse. Many of them isolated, the majority relatively small in scale, and all of them attributed to other causes. But with the rising chaos and turmoil of late in the Omniverse, they have grown more widespread and violent.

Abductions and disappearances, acts of destruction and apparent possession. Along with a number of strange blackouts and interferences at points deep within the Dataverse. It is all highly strange, and ever so slightly worrying, especially as survivors of the incidents in question start to come to light.

Most concerned by all of it is a man by the name of Dr. Regal, who claims to have witnessed many of these exact happenings — in one form or another — perpetrated in his home world, and fears that he knows precisely what is in store if things aren't stopped, and fast.

The only problem is...Regal is not cut out for this sort of business. He is much better suited to research and collating information than adventuring and exploring in person and taking care of such issues as are arising.

It is therefore fortunate that Dr. Regal is nothing if not a pragmatic and prepared individual. And in his preparedness -- though some might call it paranoia -- he has been keeping an eye on the goings-on around the Omniverse as a whole, through a carefully maintained network of allies and assistants, and he is well aware that there are no shortage of individuals who would hopefully be willing to help.

It's all a matter of contacting them. And Dr. Regal is very good at contacting people.

Guideline/Premise

The saga will begin to come to light as a series of events which leave residual Dark Power behind, and when individuals in possession of Dark Chips start to cause trouble. As these events start to rise, Dr. Regal will send out a general message on the Dataverse with his findings on the matter, and offering mildly helpful information on the matter.

Anyone who wishes to may contact him personally for more detailed information, and he will provide it, requesting that anyone with the intent or capability to do so to track down the site of one of these incidents and recover one of the leftover Dark Chips or gather some of the residual Dark Power and bring it to his lab in Coruscant. The dark items are highly corruptive, however, and resisting their influence will not be easy.

Eventually, Dr. Regal will be able to analyze the collected Dark Chips and Dark Power and confirm his fears: an old organization he is familiar with, Nebula, is in the Omniverse. He will then offer an item to everyone who wishes to assist, allowing them to track the source of the Dark Power to its source in every verse, which will lead to an out of the way location where there will be a gate, much like the ones found in the Nexus, guarded by several Darklings ( secondaries, corrupted by Dark Power). They are always composed of a small group of Heel Navis and a much more powerful secondary unique to each verse, but otherwise consist of various denizens of the verse in question. The gate will lead to a small pocket verse, where a Darkloid (a powerful secondary, capable of manipulating Dark Power like Primes manipulate Omnilium, and thus able to command and virtually subjugate and mind control Darklings, but also in the thrall of the power granted by Dark Chips and all but entirely addicted to them) who is in charge of distribution of Dark Chips and spreading Dark Power within that verse.

Every Darkloid defeated will destroy the pocket verse contained within that verse, and diminish the strength of the Dark Power in that verse, and to a lesser extent, the Omniverse as a whole. When the Darkloid stationed in each main verse is defeated, a message from the commander of Nebula will appear on the Dataverse, hinting as to the location of the final Nebula Gate, and openly challenge all individuals to come challenge him and finish this, one way or the other.

The location of this final Nebula Gate will remain a secret, to be determined by random chance when the time for its appearance arises. Finding this final gate and entering it will lead to the final pocket verse, where the commander of the Darkloids, a powerful prime, will be waiting. The exact events that will transpire during the encounter with this individual will be kept a secret, to preserve tension and prevent spoilersa draws near.

Other Notes and Questions

What the heck is this Dark Power, and these Dark Chips? Why are they so dangerous, anyway?

Very good questions.

Dark Power comes as a result of using Dark Chips. It is a corruptive, corrosive influence, staining the mind and soul of the one making use of the Dark Chips, slowly driving them mad and destroying their body. To make matters worse, the power granted by Dark Chips is addictive, and even when one is fully aware of the destruction they cause themselves by using them, they cannot help but seek them out and use them.

In return for these disastrous side effects, Dark Chips are incredibly powerful tools, allowing one who uses them to unleash devastating attacks and spikes of power, dishing out massive damage in a single blow or withstanding tremendous punishment without batting an eye. They can let even a powerless, beaten combatant fight with the vigor of being fully restored and rested, and let an already powerful combatant destroy dozens of opponents at once.

In game terms, Dark Chips enable use of weapons and attacks which would be analagous to very powerful techniques and super moves, and even transformations, at the costs listed above. At the conclusion of the saga, any Dark Chips in existence will slowly fade away as the source of Dark Power is dealt with.

Cool. So how do they work in-game?

Dark Chips are dangerous to use, but the power they grant can be useful. If you are 'lucky' enough to find one in useable condition, you will be granted it as a minor artefact-like item, functioning only during the saga itself. It will contain a powerful move, which will be described to you and that you may share or keep to yourself at your discretion. It may then be used once per battle/mission for the remainder of the saga, much like any other battle Artefact. When you die, or the saga ends, the Dark Chip will shatter and you will lose it.

What about rewards from this here saga?

Ah, now that is a big question. Rest assured, there will be rewards. Anyone who survives the final encounter will receive a nice chunk of OM for their time, and anyone who participates at all will receive bonus OM for taking part, as per the usual. There will be other rewards, which probably won't be Artefacts, but will be items of some description that should prove...interesting enough.

And that's all, folks.

I'm well aware it's a rather combat-heavy event, and would likely be a bit of a...challenge to run, but that is the idea. All that said, please do let me know what you like/don't like, if there are any gaps that need to be filled in, or if you have any other questions. And, of course, if you'd be interested in participating. Actual rules and guidelines for this madness are already all written up, and will be revealed as the time for the start of this draws near.

Likewise, I am unsure whether Sage or Skeletor is a better choice for this mission, but rest assured at least one of them will get involved. Cool idea!
