Quote:Your name is FRISK. As was previously mentioned it is close to the BEST DAY EVER, YOUR BIRTHDAY. A number of POORLY DRAWN PICTURES are scattered around your room. You have a variety of INTERESTS. You have a passion for FRIENDSHIPS You like to DRAW PICTURES of your FRIENDS and EAT CHOCOLATE. You have some fondness for MAKING STATUES, particularly SNOW LUMPS, which you are AMAZING AT. You have no ASPIRATIONS, though you occasionally dabble in FRIEND SLEEPOVERS. You have a HEAVY DISLIKE of FLOWERS. You DON'T LIKE to talk about WHY YOU DON'T LIKE FLOWERS. You also DON'T LIKE MAKING FRIENDS. However, you DO LIKE MAKING FRIENDS. Yet you DON'T LIKE MAKING FRIENDS. You are VERY CONFUSED and RATHER UNSURE of these COMPLEX FEELINGS yourself. You DON'T LIKE to TALK ABOUT it. You also like to make INCREDIBLY LAME PUNS and read JOKE BOOKS.
With great anticipation, Frisk crossed another day off of the calendar upon her wall. She was quite certain the date was accurate and up-to-date...even though the way time worked made it kind of hard to keep track. But whether she was entirely on track or not, it didn't really matter; it was close enough to be used as a general kind of yardstick. Keep track of it for her personal use.
Just a few more days -- a few more days until the best day ever.
There was only one problem. It was kind of hard to have anything resembling a proper birthday, even if she was only celebrating by herself, without the necessary supplies. She'd gone into the nearby town just recently to grab the necessities, but...that had just been the necessities. And the necessities just wouldn't do when it came to a birthday.
Shuffling through a pile of loose papers and sketches, shoving aside a copy of MEDIEVAL PUNS AND YOU: SWORDS AND SORCERY JOKES FOR THE DUMB, she finally found the list of what she was fairly sure she would need to get and do to make sure everything was ready.
....she slowly added 'clean this mess up' to the end of the list.

Frisk slowly scanned through the list of supplies and other things she needed for her party. She had been planning this party of hers for around a month, but she hadn’t been able to accumulate the proper funds necessary to actually hold a proper birthday party until recently. Getting the money required had been an exercise of patience, begging, and trial-and-error thanks to the unnatural stinginess of seemingly half of the village-folk that lived close by. ESPECIALLY Old Man Mister Habernathy. For a guy so rich, you’d think he could spare a gold piece or two. She couldn’t blame them, though. After a part of the village nearly blew up and dozens of people died in some kind of attack, its government was taking whatever donations it could to rebuild. The poorer people would have to hold on, it seemed.
The little girl continued looking through the list, occasionally examining the contents of her home to see if she had what she needed. She held a bright red crayon in her hand, checking off her list every second or so.
She first checked off the necessities as she had already gotten them. The baking mix for the chocolate cake was sitting on top of a wooden table at the entrance of her abode, though she had had to move it when water started dripping from the stalactites above the box. The balloons were in a small bag next to the box, untouched for the time being. The tiny little straw hats she had requested had also arrived, and she had stacked them up on top of several barrels of salted meat that she kept close to her bed at the back of her dimly lit cave.
She glanced down towards the bottom of her list: The extras. Most of the “extras” she hadn’t gotten yet, mostly due to their relative cost compared to what she needed, but she planned to head out to the village sometime during the week to get the rest of the stuff she wanted. Preferably another gift or two for herself. Like with the necessities, she checked off the stuff she already had.
The joke books? She had swept one of them aside in her haste to find her supply list, but the rest were stacked up in an uneven pile next to her leaf bed, so she had plenty of material for entertainment. Her toothpick stickmen people? Positioned in a large circle on top of another table next to her laptop, which was also part of her extras as a gift. The laptop itself was pink upon request, and she had only had it for a week or two yet had managed to obtain more than ten internet friends. She felt unusually proud about that achievement, and had resisted the urge to brag about it to the people in the village. She didn’t want to come off as boastful to them, especially when they had bigger problems to worry about than the amount of people she had talked to online.
She continued checking off the extras. Chocolate bars? Check. Kindling for the campfire she had made in the middle of her cave? Check. More crayons? Check. Chalk? Check. Friends?
She stopped, her red crayon just barely touching the piece of paper. Yeah, she had friends. She had plenty of friends. Check out her PesterOmni! It was more than 10! She counted!
She examined the walls of her cave, looking towards her leaf pile bed. She had taped several pictures of her friends onto the eastern wall of her cave, right above where she slept at night. The first one was a drawing of a tall figure with a long, red scarf and red boots. Its mouth was a misshapen smile, which didn’t stop it from laughing out “Nyeh Heh Heh!” in a speech bubble. The second one was of a smaller, yellow creature that had no arms and long spikes on his head. Half of its face was colored purple, and its speech bubble contained the word “Yo!”
The third picture was a drawing of a round skeleton, whose smile similarly took up pretty much every part of his face. His entire torso was covered in blue, and his hands were inside the pockets of what could only be assumed as his jacket. His speech bubble included the words “Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” in remarkably clear handwriting, especially compared to the scribbles that formed the other drawings.
She forced herself to look away, taking a deep breath as she checked off “Friends.” Looking through the rest of the list, she saw that the rest of the extras still needed to be bought, including confetti, a poster, some colorful rope, a tea kettle, some more chairs, and some ghost stories. She would have to get those at some point during the week.
She set the list back into the piles of paper, deciding not to clean it up immediately. Instead, she slowly moved towards her laptop desk, which was placed close to her leaf bed alongside the stack of joke books. Although she didn’t have any plans on actually talking to anybody, it couldn’t hurt to at least check to see if anyone else was online and/or had contacted her, right?

The one thing the little girl didn’t really like about her laptop was how unbearably slow it was. Slow to boot up, slow to log in, and slow to refresh pages. It was probably because of the rather medieval design, or at least the fact she was inside a cave, since caves normally didn’t have internet connections. She didn’t mind it, though. She’d gotten used to making do with what she had.
After roughly a minute or so of waiting, she scrolled her cursor towards the PesterOmni app she had installed out of curiosity and where she kept the contacts of her online friends. Opening it, she scrolled through the list of contacts she had.
luxuriusUncertainty was Online. He had apparently started pestering her a few seconds prior.
Her eyes widened, her heart racing a bit as she looked at the words he sent. She had only been friends with him a short while, but she still thought she was never going to get used to talking to him. He just was so… aggressive, and he always seemed to find something wrong with her. It didn’t feel right of him to do such things.
She never told him that, though. Even if he only contacted her when he felt like it, it was better than noone at all. Slowly, trying to type coherently, she pestered him back.

Her fingers shook as Finn stopped pestering her, though not as hard as it usually did when she talked to him. She leaned back into her chair, taking a deep breath. She wanted so desperately to tell him what exactly her “OC” was, even it did hurt a little for him to say she shouldn’t have had a goat as a favorite animal. It was okay, though. He didn’t know what she did.
She knew for a fact, however, that she couldn’t tell him. She couldn’t tell anyone. She wasn’t going to burden them with her problems when they probably had plenty of their own to deal with. Besides, it wouldn’t have been a good idea. She had gotten attached to all of her friends in the past and-
No… she thought, wiping her eyes as she felt herself starting to cry, don’t cry… there was nothing you could’ve done…
She decided to focus her attention back to what Finn had told her; something about “Sonic” and “Blasphemy.” According to his description of “Sonic,” he was a blue hedgehog who had other animal friends. Not exactly the most specific of definitions, but the blasphemy word was interesting. Apparently, it meant something that was so awful it had to be blasphemy. She chuckled, finding the hilarity in calling a tiny little flower “blasphemy.”
After checking through the rest of her contacts list, seeing that no one else had contacted her, she was about to close the laptop when Finn began pestering her again.

She felt a smile form on her face as she closed out of the PesterOmni app. The drawing she saved on her computer as an image copy and as a background. It was pretty darn cool, especially with the green and purple fireball and regal looking clothes.
Yet, despite that, it reminded her of Toriel. Maybe it was the clothes, or the fireball, or just the overall design, but the drawing made her remember her. That was why she had stopped him before he could continue the drawing. It was better for him if he didn’t understand exactly why she had taken up the drawing for herself.
Still… maybe he isn’t all bad, she thought, glancing down towards the damp stone floor of her cave, maybe he really is a nice guy…
Yeah, a nice guy. Nice guys draw goats for tiny children.
Her chest thumped as a surge of pain coursed through her body. She grabbed a hold of her chest, gritting her teeth as she tried as hard as she could to keep from screaming. She barely managed to hold back tears as she leaned onto the desk, taking deep breaths as the pain slowly dissipated, replaced by the loud grumblings of her tummy.

The girl’s cave was situated near several essentials for survival: First, she was close by to a town for supplies. “The Town with No Name,” is what it was called. A green terrorist with a gun had blown up a large group of men, women and children as well as the side of a building. The town was still suffering from the attack.
Second, the cave was conveniently close to a swamp. The swamp was musty, fog hanging below the small, low hanging trees. Insects of various shapes and sizes buzzed around, some trying to stick to Frisk’s cheek. The ground itself was filled with mud and water, dirtying the girl’s already mud-caked and mistreated shoes as she walked through the marsh. Her face felt damp, with a copious amount of grime and sweat plastered all over her face and hair, which didn’t spell too well for some of the open cuts on her face. She looked around, growing increasingly worried that she might’ve gotten lost among the tall grass and blood-sucking insects.
Eventually, as she parted away some tall cattail, she found the lake. It had been her lifeline just as much as the village had, and she had been incredibly thankful for her lucky choice of the cave when she first came across it. The lake was surrounded by a long patch of cattail, and it always had a layer of thick fog above it that made its overall size deceptive. She always swore, though, that somewhere in the middle of that lake was a small island, free from the heat and yuckiness of the swampland, where a tall forest stood. This forest, she had always thought, was composed of palm trees and not the weeping willows of the bog, and would have probably made a lot better a home than the cave.
She sighed, walking towards the edge of the lake, her shoes sinking into the muddied ground. She knew it probably was just her eyes playing tricks on her, even though it was fun to dream about an island like that. Maybe she would make a raft one day and go out into the lake, just to see if it was true. Maybe she would bring her friends over there too… share jokes…
Her tummy grumbled, interrupting her daydream. She groaned, letting out a disgusted “Yuck…” as she dipped the bucket into the standing water. After a few seconds, she brought the bucket out, the weight forcing her to use her two hands.
There, she thought, that should be enough. Time to head home.
She was about to turn around when she heard a low rumble erupt from the water.
She peered into the foggy abyss, her grip on her bucket tightening and her arms shaking. The rumble drew closer, turning into a loud roar. It seemed to be coming from her left, as if stalking her. She saw the lake water start to shake, the green algae on top parting. The roar became louder and louder still.
She did not wait to see what it was. She leaped back into the cattail bushes, spilling the water in her bucket all over her clothes. She started to reach for her knife within her shorts, a sense of dread filling the pit of her stomach as the ear-splitting rumbling increased.
Then it stopped.
Trembling, she started to stand up. With a shaky hand, she parted the cattail bush, looking out towards the lake.

Ah, this be a beautiful day, I say. The fog is looking mighty fine and dandy today, I say.
Those were the thoughts crossing through Old Man Mister Habernathy’s mind as he paddled his white boat through the lake. This was the most wonderful life an old man like him could ask for. The sweet smell of afternoon dew and swamp fog, the feeling of sweat on his graying brow, and the fairest and most delightful lady he had ever laid his aged green eyes on.
She was sitting close to the starboard side of the boat, though thankfully keeping a good enough distance that any accidental bumps wouldn’t knock her over. She wore a nicely kept dress that went to her ankles, with regal shoes covering her feet. Her hair was snowy white, short, and curly. Her lips were a bright red, and hanging loosely on the flaps of her ears were two silver seashells; they were gifts he had given her long ago. It was a year ago, under a soft moonlight underneath a tall tree. They had been talking about how much of a close call it was when she had been caught sneaking off by her husband. She had excused herself by saying she was going sightseeing; they got a good chuckle out of that.
He grinned, taking her eyes off her to stare out into the murky waters of the pond. It had rained the day before, which had flushed out the fish. He was hopeful that he could show off his fishing capabilities towards the missus.
He paddled his fishing boat towards his favorite fishing spot: a spot near the shore of the lake partially surrounded by cattail bushes. He had learned early on when he had first bought the island in the pond that that spot was one of the best to catch fish. For some reason, the aquatic life absolutely loved it.
He lifted his paddle from the lake, water dripping from the edge as he set it in the middle of the boat. He looked towards the missus, who was holding a finger in front of her ruby-colored lips.
“Ohoho, I say, my lovely flower, I say, this is my favorite lake in all of Camelot. I say, there ain’t any that be better than this one, I say.” He said, standing up from the bow of the boat. He stretched his arms out, glad he was still more or less in shape in his old age.
She chuckled, leaning away from him as he walked to the stern to pick up a wooden fishing rod and a box full of worms. “And why do you suppose is this your favorite lake in all of Camelot, Mister Habernathy? After all, most would agree that it does not look the prettiest nor the most healthy.”
“I say, they would be right, I say. However, I say, there be some real beauts underneath these waters, I say,” He replied, piercing one of his bait worms upon the rod’s hook, “and I, I say, intend to show you them.”
“Oh you jest, Mister Habernathy! There can be no such thing in these waters!” She said, feigning disbelief as she watched him cast his line into the water. The hook landed near the cattail with a soft plunk.
And thus, they waited. The old man stood near the edge of the boat, smiling the biggest smile a man could ever make. His lover stood by, watching in anticipation.
Eventually, he felt a slight tug, followed by the string tightening and the rod bending.
Without a moment to spare, he began rapidly pulling back on the rod, his hands slowly turning back the rotary lever of the rod. The fish underneath was a fierce one, pulling back on the string with the strength of an ox. Every vein in his body popped out as he reeled it in closer and closer towards him.
He felt two arms wrap around him, pulling the rod backward with one last yank. It was all it took for the hook to part water and rise.
With a loud cheer, the couple reeled the flopping fish up into the air, staring at their prize. It was a long fish, with green, shiny scales and whisker-like appendages at the front of its snout. The hook was pierced partially through its nostril and out the left side of its jaw.
“I say… would ya look at that?” He said, opening up a small box. He chuckled as he dropped the fish inside, feeling his lover’s tug on him loosen.
“Well, I have been struck with the truth. You were right, Mister Habernathy… this lake is filled with the most beautiful of creatures.”
“I say, you’re right, I say…” He said, turning back towards the lady. He held his arms out towards her, pulling her in for a hug, “but, I say, I’ve already caught the biggest bass in these waters.”
“Oh, Mister Habernathy!” She squealed, pounding her fist into his back before planting her red lips to his, giggling all the while. They began smothering each other with kisses, ultimately laying down on the bottom of the boat. They were so ferocious, so passionate in their lovemaking that they did not hear the little girl scurrying away.

The little girl ran through the swamp, the image of Old Mister Habernathy doing… the thing to the butcher’s mother still fresh in her memory. She was glad she had managed to get some water before escaping the scene; she didn’t want to know what would have happened if she had been caught. Maybe nothing bad, just a scolding or two, but she would feel so bad for them. It was rude to eavesdrop.
After a few minutes of running, she got out of the swamp, heading towards her cave. Her clothes were still wet from her accidental dumping of water, and she shivered as a soft breeze blew through the area around her. She kept her water bucket steady as she walked into her cave, seeing relatively little had changed before she had arrived. Her toothpick stickmen people were still standing near her computer, which was closed, and her baking mix box was still on the table near the entryway to the cave. She still couldn’t get the image out of her head no matter how hard she tried. It was maddening, like flowers surrounding you in your dreams and poking you with vines.
Her stomach rumbled, reminding her of why she had set out of the cave in the first place. Without much hesitation, she got to work.
After a few more minutes, she had set up a campfire out of several stones, some twigs, and a fresh bit of flint she had found. She had placed a pot of water above the fire, having dumped the water from the bucket into said pot. The fire provided an orangish glow to the cave, warming up her damp body and giving her a sense of coziness. It was kinda like how warm it felt in the swamp, when she saw the two old people kissing-
She immediately shook her head, sticking out her tongue. She still could hardly believe she had seen Old Man Mister Habernathy kiss someone, let alone someone like the butcher’s mother! Were they dating? Did the butcher know?
She had to get it off of her mind. The food was going to take a while, so she had to find some other means of distraction.
Frisk looked towards her pink laptop, smiling a little bit as she realized she hadn’t actually checked her PesterOmni since she got back. Moving towards it, she reopened her laptop, waiting for it boot up. When it did, she pulled up PesterOmni, seeing she had gotten a total of one message. It was from Paige!
Smiling, she pulled open the message board.

She sat in complete silence at her laptop desk, a feeling of euphoria filling her body. She had never thought that Paige even remembered her birthday, let alone cared enough to log it into her computer. She began to laugh, feeling tears form in her eyes as she moved her hand to her face, cupping her mouth.
That’s when a thought crossed her mind. If Paige knew it was her birthday, what if the others did? Enthusiastic, she quickly pulled up Paul’s message board, beginning to pester him.

OSburb? she thought, sliding the file onto her desktop. It appeared to be some kind of icon of a house made out of several rectangular green blocks. She didn’t know what the game could even be about, just that it was maybe a game about a house? Did the game involve cleaning up messes you leave around the house and taught a message about responsibility? She wasn’t entirely sure she liked those kinds of games… not that she hated responsibility or anything. She was responsible; she could clean up her messes.
She was about to ignore it completely when another thought crossed her mind. Paul had sent it to her, right? She couldn’t just delete it or ignore it! It had to have been a gift! Paul was too nice not to send it to her as something special! She quickly dragged the file to a folder for safe-keeping; it would’ve been bad if she had to explain to her friends why she didn’t get the game.
Another notification emerged on her PesterOmni. It was from Ahmed. She didn’t remember contacting Ahmed very much, nor did she remember him contacting her very much. She wondered why he was pestering her all of a sudden.

No wonder he was so enthusiastic. It was the OSburb game. Apparently, both he and Paul had gotten it, and he was excited to play it. Was all of her online friends playing it? If so, she might have to commit to an early birthday.
What got her attention the most was this “Boss Man.” He saw Ahmed as some kind of… son. She didn’t know why Ahmed thought that was weird; she thought that was fantastic for him! Someone was looking out for him and taking care of him! Who could ask for anything more?
She sighed, glancing down towards the ground before looking around her cave. It was remarkably empty, even with all of the supplies she had procured in her time spent in it. She wondered what it would look like with more money, maybe someone else in it to break the silence.
She shook her head. No. No, it was better this way. Like this, she couldn’t hurt anyone. It didn’t matter if she had to live with only the bare minimum it took to keep going. She would rather live like a leper then put the people around her at risk. She wasn’t going to mind what her friend’s thought or even how they lived, for they probably weren’t living in caves themselves. If they were, though, they weren’t telling. She wished she did, though; it would make living in hers a lot more bearable knowing others were in the same situation.
She glanced towards the boiling pot, sighing as she closed her laptop.

The little girl tossed some more leaves into the fire, reinvigorating the stagnating orange and yellow tendrils into something more useful for cooking food. She had put her lunch: a chunk of salted meat from one of her barrels, into the pot of boiling water, and had been stirring it for a good while with a wooden spoon. She had to take great care not to brush her hand against the pot as she stirred, though. She burned her hand the first time she did that, and she didn’t want to experience that kind of pain again if she could help it.
Eventually, after a few more minutes, she carefully pulled out the slab of steak out of the heated pot, trying to prevent the water dripping from the brown meat chunk from landing on her body as she set it down onto the rocky ground of her abode. She sat still, occasionally patting the top of her food as she watched the smoke rise from her campfire, the sticks within crackling from the heat. She wasn’t particularly interested in the cycle of fire and how it functioned, though she could imagine that Paige would study it for hours and hours on end. Just that alone got her wanting to take notes; it could’ve been enough to impress her.
She placed her hand back onto the meat chunk, noticing that it was no longer scalding hot. Sighing, she brought her hands around it, bringing it to her mouth. She began to chew, ripping out small lumps of meat every so often to make it easier on her throat. During this time, she was thinking. Not about Habernathy, thankfully, but about the OSburb file.
Paul had sent it to her through the PesterOmni message board, probably as a gift, and she had found out soon after that Ahmed also had the game. She had asked Ahmed to wait for a while before playing, but… she just couldn’t get his request out of her mind. After all, this was the first time she had one of her friends ask her to play with them in a long while, especially from someone she didn’t contact very often. Yet despite this… she knew she shouldn’t do it. What if she accidentally slip during play of her situation? What if… he does something? She couldn’t do that to her friends, not after what she had done to her last set of friends. It was too awful and horrible to do again.
But… she didn’t want them to play without her. Yet she also would rather they did…
“Goodness, Finn was right about you. You ARE indecisive.”
She froze, her mouth mere inches away from her food. No…
Her eyes darted all around her room, finally settling upon the opposite side of her campfire. Behind it, seemingly within the flames, was him. He was small, roughly her height, but was vastly different in appearance. He wore a green sweater with a single light green stripe down the middle as well as black shorts and sneakers. His hair was a thin shade of red, as if to complement the fire’s colors. The most noticeable part of his appearance, however, were his eyes. They were wide open in an almost gleeful way, with a large smile to boot. The two locked eyes, the boy gnawing on another piece of meat like a baby chewing a toy.
“I mean, it can’t be THAT hard, right? It’s just a decision of playing a game with your friends! No harm in that.” The boy said, making sure not to speak with his mouth full.
Frisk turned around, frowning as she looked down to the ground. She continued munching on her piece of meat even as she glanced up towards the boy, whom had reappeared right in front of her and was staring at her.
“Come on, now. What’s so hard about this?” He asked, fanning his eyebrows in an overly cutesy manner.
“Leave me alone…” she replied, glowering at him.
The boy leaned back a bit, obviously surprised by her remark. He took in a deep breath, closing his eyes. He brought his hand up to his face, his fist clenching and unclenching as if by instinct.
“Leave you alone……” he repeated over and over again, each time growing quieter and quieter.
The girl began to shake, suddenly realizing what she just did. Before she could respond, he reopened his eyes, revealing two sets of red dots within his eye sockets, which were bleeding a gooey red substance. His face had become mangled, almost mummified, and his hair had become ragged and unkempt. He spoke with complete malice, venom in his every word.
“You want me… to leave you alone?!” He said, cackling as the little girl started backing up, only stopping upon feeling the scorching heat of the campfire almost touch her shirt.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t help but notice you squandered that chance a loooooonnnng time ago, Frisk…” he said, his eyes never wavering from her as she curled up into a ball, whimpering like a baby. He merely harrumphed, crossing his arms as he continued.
“Besides, why would you want me to leave you alone? I’m all you have aside from your friends.”
“I don’t want you near my friends..”
“Too bad, Frisk. As long as you exist, I’ll ALWAYS be near them.” He said, his tone calm. He placed a single hand on her shoulder, starting to rub and pet it like a dog.
“There, there, Frisk… it’s okay…” He said, his voice low and soothing.
“What do you want…” Frisk replied, sniffling as she removed her hands from her face.
“I was hoping to see if we could settle this little… issue we have regarding this… OSburb… game..” he said, chuckling a bit before saying, “and I think I have that taken care of.”
The girl looked up at the demonic individual, trembling with every movement she made.
The boy did not hesitate in explaining his intentions. “For starters, I do not advise downloading this.. OSburb. It is most likely a game too dull and kid-like for someone like you.”
“Kid-like?” She said, though without a hint of offense.
“And besides,” he said, his smile growing wider by the second, “it’s not like your friends will care if you don’t play with them or not.”
That was all it took. The boy kept his happy smile going even as the little girl beneath him started to sob harder and harder.
“No.. no, you’re wrong. They like me! I know they like me!” She said in between sobs.
“Do they? I wonder why they don’t contact you very often?”
“They’re my friends… they like me…”
“They’re probably playing that game right now, not saying a word to you.”
“They wouldn’t… no.. they’re my friends..”
“I didn’t know friendship worked that way. Honestly, I didn’t. I didn’t know you could be totally ignored and forgotten about and still be friends with someone.”
“STOP!” Frisk screamed, tears streaming down her face as she practically leapt into the air, only to land back onto her knees. She bawled into her hands, her cries echoing around the cave. The boy paid no attention. Instead, he filed his fingernails with one of those file things girls use.
“Oh, alright, fine…” he muttered, rolling his eyes as he drifted towards her laptop, brushing it with his hand, “I suppose I shall leave this decision up to you. Personally, I’d find some better friends myself, but you know, I’m not the host here.”
She was about to reply when she removed her hands from her face, seeing he had disappeared. She felt absolutely sick to her stomach, worsened by the horrible throbbing in her chest as huge thumps erupted from it. He was wrong, he had to be wrong. Her friends wouldn’t do anything without her, would they?
She could not satisfy herself with just her own words. She quickly moved towards her laptop, opening it up. Before too long, she had opened up the PesterOmni and had contacted Finn.

Well.. there’s my decision… she thought to herself as she watched the download bar slowly fill up. She didn’t know if she was even making the right choice, given what Alex had made her do-
No. She had done it. She had done every single thing. It was her fault, and her fault alone.
She felt tears start to form in her eyes again. Wiping her nose, she opened up the message board for Ahmed, deciding to at least inform him that she changed her mind.

She had to admit, when she thought about it a bit more, it did seem like Finn wasn’t even really a bad guy. He was just… sad, and lonely. She could understand, though. She wouldn’t want him to feel that way anymore than she did.
She was about to just close out of PesterOmni when she saw luxuriusUncertainty was online again, and had begun pestering her. Curious, she pulled it up.

Frisk continued to watch the download bar fill up, her face remarkably stoic despite the image of Alex still fresh in her mind. Roughly two minutes had passed without much having occurred aside from her trying to lighten the tension in her stomach with one of her favorite activities: Puns.
“Outside the King’s castle, a thunderstorm was brewing,” she said, repeating what she read in the pun book she had in her hands, “Doth be a reigny day, proclaimed the King of Puns.”
She sat in silence for a few moments, processing the joke in her head. Her eyes widened as something clicked in her mind before she burst into a massive fit of giggles. The King of Puns said it was a REIGNY day! She continued to laugh the most high-pitched, childish and gleeful laugh as she faceplanted onto the book, her entire body shaking. She stayed this way for a few moments, trying to recover from her brief fit.
Eventually, she lifted her head off of the pun book, wiping away a tear from her eyes as she looked at her computer. During that time, the download bar had increased just enough that it was almost touching the end of the bar, and Paige had started messaging her again.
Setting the book next to the computer, she opened up PesterOmni, opening the message board.

She closed Paige’s message board, closing out of PesterOmni for the time being. First Ahmed, then Finn, now Paige wanted to play with her! She wasn’t sure if she should’ve been happy or really, really scared for their safety.
Their brief talk about Finn got her thinking, though. Had Finn not told the others what he told her? If so, maybe she was right…. Finn just wanted to be left alone. She couldn’t get that, though. Why would anyone want to be alone and be mean to everyone else? It didn’t make any sense. How would you keep your friends that way?
Frisk looked up towards the walls of the cave, staring at the drawings she made of her past friends. They had all been so outgoing, so nice and friendly to her. It hurt thinking about them, though. Like a knife through the heart with each mention of their names. It was better to just forget about it, she knew, and forget about Finn’s problems. His problems were his own, just like hers were her own, and she couldn’t let herself intervene. What if she screwed up? What if she got mad somehow and… hurt him? She couldn’t do that. Not again, not after what had happened last time.
But… with all that being said… she couldn’t sit there and watch Finn isolate himself like that. It hurt to think about what he would have had to have gone through to do that, but she knew first-hand that it was bad. She was his friend, or at least, she hoped she was his friend, and she was going to do everything in her power to help him. To make him feel better about himself.
If she could do that… she might feel good too..
She glanced towards her laptop as another notification popped up on it, this time by Paul. Smiling, she pulled up the message board.

FA: "Oh? What... do I need to... check?"
FA: "Oh... okay.."
FA: "I'm... downloading it.. right now, but..."
FA: "I will..."
FA: "What do... I need to, um... look for?"
The little girl minimized the window for the message board, clicking open the folder she had stashed the file in. Like she had remembered, it was just one file. Suddenly, the program popped up in front of the file window, displaying a black screen. The screen indicated that the “Server Version was installed.”
Oh… she thought as she pulled open the message board.
FA: "Two... separate... programs.."
FA: "In the file...?"
FA: "When I, um... install it?"
FA: "Maybe..."
FA: "This one just, um... completed a moment ago..."
FA: "Said, um... the server version or..."
FA: "Yeah... server..."
FA: "I... guess so..."
FA: "I'm sorry, I..."
FA: "Don't know how, um..."
FA: "This works..."
FA: "No! I mean..."

FA: "Should it take to, um... download.."

She dragged her cursor to the new file, this time just placing it on the desktop and going through the install process that way. She sighed as she watched the bar start slowly filling up again. Another hour of waiting, it seemed like..
Just then, another message popped up from Paul. She quickly checked to see what he was asking.

FA: "Okay..."
FA: "Bye... Paul!"

She silently exited out of the message board, an overwhelming sense of joy, amazement, and every other positive emotion one could get from being accepted in this way washed over her like an ocean wave. She couldn’t believe what she had read. She hoped she wasn’t imagining the whole scenario. That it was all real. She so desperately wanted it to be real.
She pinched herself, letting out a high-pitched squeal. She stood motionless for a while, waiting to wake up.
It was real.
She felt like starting the birthday party right then and there. These feelings she were feeling were ones she had thought she was never going to feel again, so used was she to living in caves and cooking her own food with her only interactions being through an electronic device. He liked her. Paul liked her…
She kinda wanted to turn around to see if Alex was there, just so she could rub her sweet, sweet victory in his face. He would probably try to scare her afterwards, but it would be sooooooooo worth seeing the look on his face as she proudly proclaimed to him how she was right and he was wrong.
But instead, she celebrated through more puns! The medieval pun book was surprisingly extensive for a supposed “pun book for dummies.” It had jokes about kings, knights, wizards, witches, castles, swords, dragons, dwarves, elves, vampires, skeletons (a personal favorite,) horses, fortresses, queens, and many, many more. It helped that she had gotten several volumes of them to share with her friends, something she was going to have to do later on, as she just hadn’t done it yet. There just wasn’t a good opportunity to do so. She resolved that, first chance she got, she was telling them a pun.
Eventually, after a long time of waiting, the download for the client version of OSburb finished installing. She set down her book, deciding to contact Ahmed and update him on the matter.

She closed out of the message board, leaning back on her chair. She could draw something for Finn, a turtle most likely. But she didn’t know what he would like.
That’s when she remembered. Ahmed had told her that, in order to get him to like her, he had to “follow his unique set of rules.” Did that mean she had to swear a lot, or something like that? Or type really weirdly?
She decided her best course of action was to study up. She quickly pulled up a video site, searching up several songs to listen to to try to get a “feel” for what to do.
Quote:
“Umm, you're packed and you're stacked 'specially in the back
Brother, wanna thank your mother for a butt like that.
Can I get some fries with that shake-shake boobie?
If looks could kill you would be an uzi
You're a shotgun, bang! What's up with that thang?
I wanna know how does it hang?
Straight up, wait up, hold up, Mr. Lover
Like Prince said you're a sexy mutha well-a”
Frisk continued rapping as she placed her crayon on the loose leaf paper, bobbing up and down in rhythm with the song. She started to draw, having a few ideas in her head as to what the drawing would look like.

“Nigga nigga, um….
Bitch, get in the truck.
Dick dick, ass ass,
Fuckity fuck fuck.”
Frisk put her crayon down, taking a moment to observe her turtle drawing. It was a turtle with a long neck that was wearing a top hat while doing what she called “the worm.” Basically, its arms were wiggling all over the place while spouting out so many curse words that it would offend every soccer mom that even so much as glanced at it.
So, basically, Finn would love it to death! If she was correct in guessing what his likes were, then he would definitely feel happy after looking at it!
As for the constant swearing on her part? She had been trying to come up with her own rap song after listening to several other ones made by professionals. She was feeling awfully proud of her first verse! Maybe she would be able to show Finn her skill one day.
She began giggling, the thought of Finn’s reaction to her suddenly bursting out into a rap about butts and fucking running through her mind. Ahmed was right! All she had to do was tap into his unique sense of humor! Though she wasn’t sure about the turtle… she wasn’t a very good drawer...
That’s when she remembered Osburb. It had just finished installing, with some sort of browser open and waiting for a “client.” All ready to play..
She looked towards the open PesterChum message board for avidProcrastinater, seeing that some time had passed since she had talked to him. She placed her hands on the keyboard, remaining still for a few moments before slowly typing a message.

FA: I dunno...
FA: ..... o...
FA: Okay... I...
FA: I trust you... Ahmed…
FA: I'll show it to him when I...
FA: do it...
FA: Ummm... do you...
FA: Happen to have um....
FA: OSburb installed...?
FA: Yeah, I...
FA: Have it installed..
The little girl silently moved the Pesterchum message board to the side of the screen, staring at the OSburb browser. Aside from the messages of code occasionally laid out on the screen, there was a command near the bottom that read as follows:
To connect with the client, press [ENTER]
She pressed ENTER.
Almost immediately, the black, code-ridden screen was replaced with a loading screen. Several unusual, green images popped out, alternating at a rapid rate as music began to play from her laptop and a loading screen filled up. Frisk, however, did not notice this, as she had begun talking to Ahmed again.
FA: Okay....
FA: I, um....
FA: I... did something...
FA: Am I.. connected...
FA: Are we...
FA: Playing..?
Moving the board out of the way again, she looked at the game window. The loading screen was just about to finish.
FA: I'm.... I'm....
FA: I'm loading...
When it did, the screen went white, and stayed that way for a while. As the glow dissipated, however, she saw something completely unexpected.
In the middle of the game window, sitting down and typing away on a laptop, was a black-haired teenager. He wore a blue shirt and light brown pants; they looked like something you would see in a pharmacy. He was also wearing some type of glasses. Was… was this Ahmed?
If so, he… looked really handsome.
She took a few seconds to look around his room, seeing several noteworthy aspects about it. Firstly, there were some kind of colored crystal-like objects next to Ahmed, stacked in a pile. Next to that was what looked like an orange feather alongside other magical reagents. Close by was a TV, several shelves, a game console of some description, and a traditional bed. It looked like such a nice place to live…
FA: ......
FA: Woah.....
FA: Umm... Ahmed?
FA: What are, um...
FA: Those shiny things on your desk?
FA: If, um...
FA: You don't mind me, um...
FA: You, um... live in a nice looking place, Ahmed...
FA: Yeah... it looks very nice…
It was astonishing just how much she’d rather be locked inside a place like Ahmed’s house instead of residing in a cave after spending some months inside one. At least with that place, you had stuff to do to take your mind off things… and there was a lot she didn’t want to think about.
She glanced up towards the top of the game window, seeing some kind of user interface ala The Sims. There were several buttons called “Move,” “Revise,” “Deploy,” “Phernillia Registry,” “Grist Cache,” “Atheneum,” and “Alchemize.” Next to those were small arrows and an even smaller button with a magnifying glass in the middle. The entire thing had decided to dump her into the game without even so much as a tutorial as to what to do! She would’ve asked Ahmed how to play, but the game was brand new! No one knew how to play it.
She supposed it would be a good time to start learning then...
FA: I, um...
FA: guess I should, um...
FA: Actually, you know...
FA: Start playing the game…
Without much of a clue in terms of direction, she decided it was best to figure out what exactly the “Move” option does. Clicking it, she found her cursor immediately changed into a lying down house, with the rooftop pointed like an arrow. Moving it around, she clicked on one of the crystals lying on Ahmed’s table before lifting it up. Her eyes steadily widened, though not the point where her eye color was visible, as she realized what she was doing.
Acting on pure instinct, she let go of the mouse button, dropping the crystal onto the ground. She brought both of her hands to her mouth, muffling a cry. She then very quickly typed out a message to Ahmed.
FA: I... I'm sorry I...
FA: I grabbed your crystal and...
FA: Dropped it...
FA: I'm sorry, I'm.... I'm sorry...
She let out a sigh of relief. She didn’t want to know how he would have reacted if she had broken one of his crystals. And he wanted to give one to her! She hoped it was her favorite color: Pink!
FA: Oh... thank you... that sounds...
FA: Really sweet... thank you..
She moved the cursor away from the crystals on the desk, brushing past Ahmed along the way. She then paused, smiling mischievously before proceeding to click on the raven-haired teen. His response could not have been any better.
FA: Heeheeheehee!
She burst out into laughter, rapidly clicking on the poor guy. It was at that point did another thought pop into her mind, and she felt her chest hurt from laughing so much as she typed out another response.
FA: I... guess I'm being a little...
FA: Frisky?
FA: Okay, I'll stop…
She moved the cursor away from Ahmed, still trying to recover from a fit of the giggles. She hadn’t laughed that hard in a LOOOONNNNG time; she really needed that.
FA: Hehehehehe... that was fun!
FA: Okay.
He’s ticklish! she thought, hoping that she would be able to meet him at some point. She was so going to find out his most ticklish spot!
Ahmed quickly asked her whether or not there was anything else she could do, and she instantly glanced over to “Revise.” She could try that.
FA: Well...
FA: There's this thing called, um…
FA: Revise...
FA: Okay…
She clicked the “Revise” button, the cursor changing to fit it. She tried to be extra careful not to do anything to his stuff, moving the cursor away from them. She then clicked on a random wall.
The formation of another room instantly made her regret choosing that option as the next to fool around with.
FA: I... I...
FA: I made another, um....
FA: A room?
Shaking, she quickly began pressing almost every button she could think of on the keyboard in an attempt to undo her revision. No dice. Feeling sick to her stomach, she proceeded to apologize to Ahmed.
FA: Um…
FA: I didn't mean to do that!
FA: I... I..
FA: I couldn't find an... undo...
FA: I'm sorry, I'm...
FA: I'm so sorry...
FA: I didn't mean to ruin your home!
She glanced back to the Pesterchum, having decided to fill up the room she had made in a vain attempt to make it look presentable. She had chosen an object called a “Cruxtruder,” which looked like a cannon plastered on top of the base of a statue, and had placed it in the middle of said room.
FA: Yeah, but...
FA: I put a thingy in it..
FA: Okay…
FA: The, um....
FA: Phernalia Registry...
FA: Says it's a, um...
FA: Cruxtruder.
FA: The thingy is a, um...
FA: Cruxtruder.
FA: I.... I don't know...
FA: What, um... do you see on it?
FA: Maybe... open the lid?
She moved her cursor towards the Cruxtruder, taking a moment to change it to something else so she didn’t create another room. She rapidly clicked on it, the machine turning red each time.
FA: I can't open it....
FA: I'm sorry, I...
FA: I... didn't know we couldn't open it...
FA: A rock?
FA: Oh... okay...
As much as she hated living in a cave, it did have at least one advantage: there were rocks everywhere. From tiny to medium sized, she could walk around in it and find any she wanted. Sadly, though, most modern houses did not have that. Not like it was always needed, though. After all, the rock thing was a situational advantage at best.
Because of that, though, she didn’t know what else to use to help him open the machine. She looked around the room, glancing at the magic crystals for a few moments.
Wait a minute…
FA: Wait, um… Ahmed?
FA: Um... you use magic... right?
FA: I mean... I don't want to...
FA: Make you hurt yourself doing this...
FA: You don't have to... if you don't want to..
FA: Okay...
She watched as Ahmed raised his wand, most likely chanting some type of spell word, before magical energy appeared to shoot out from its tip and towards the machine. Before she could react, however, she saw him fly backwards and into the wall as a bright flash filled her screen.
She didn’t care about that, though. She was too busy frantically messaging Ahmed, trying to make sure she hadn’t-
Please, oh please oh please tell me I didn’t kill him..
FA: AHMED!
FA: ARE YOU HURT! PLEASE TELL ME YOU AREN'T HURT!
FA: You... you.. you...
FA: You flew into the wall...
FA: And...
FA: It looked like you... you were..
FA: Oh.. okay..
FA: No more magic, though... please?
She breathed a sigh of relief, the pounding in her chest slowly ceasing as she brought up the game window. Above the machine, where the cap had stood, was some sort of glitching, electricity orb thing that was flashing all sorts of colors.
FA: I... I dunno...
FA: Ummm…
FA: A magical... thingy?
FA: I.... don't know...
FA: Ummm.. the wheel?
She watched as Ahmed turned the wheel on the tube, the blue, crystal-like cylinder bringing forth some unpleasant thoughts in her mind. She stuck her tongue out in disgust; she probably had been listening to too many rap songs.
FA: Ummm...
FA: I don't... know?
FA: I.... I really don't know.... either..
FA: Maybe... it needs another one of these, um... thingys?
After taking a moment to brain bleach herself, she had opened up the Registry in an attempt to find something else that could help them. She had found two other such machines, the “Totem Lathe,” and the “Alchemitzer.” She had then placed the Lathe within Ahmed’s room.
FA: .... yeah...
FA: I saw... more than these two... in the, um...
FA: Registery...
FA: What smaller thingy?
FA: Oh.. the, um.... blue, um... thingy?
FA: Oh.. um...
FA: Maybe... check the, um...
FA: Totem... Lathe?
FA: Oh...
FA: You mean...
FA: There's nothing... you haven't pressed or...
FA: or anything like that?
AP: Yeah.
FA: Maybe...
FA: Use this?
She pressed the “Pre-Punched Card” button, deploying it near Ahmed’s feet.
FA: Oh!
FA: Ummm...
FA: Maybe try... stuffing it back into the... Cruxtruder tube thing?
She watched as Ahmed went back over to the Cruxtruder, sliding the wavy shaped, crystal cylinder back into the tube. She groaned as it was spat back out.
That’s when she noticed the orb had been following Ahmed around the whole time. She guessed it was important in some way.
FA: Oh…
FA: Hey, um... Ahmed..?
FA: What should we... do with the orb?
FA: Do... we need to repair it...?
FA: Like....
FA: Maybe... give it something?
FA: What's an energy generation matrix...?
FA: So... it needs... electricity?
FA: Elec...tricity...
FA: Maybe this?
She moved her cursor towards the game console near the TV, picking it up. However, it didn’t take long for her to realize that she should’ve asked him to do it first, as his immediate reaction was one of fear. Instinctively, she dropped the console on the ground.
FA: Sorry! Sorry!!
FA: I'm so so so so sorry Ahmed...
FA: I didn't... I didn't think...
FA: I'm sorry...
FA: I'm sorry... I didn't mean to... almost break your stuff...
FA: Oh... okay…
Third time’s the charm? She cautiously, so cautiously that there was no possible chance she could screw up, moved her cursor to the desk. She slowly attempted to open the desk drawers.
Instead, she just picked up the desk. Panicking, she shook it around, letting go of the mouse and sending several items flying off of it. One of these items was the feather, which floated towards the orb.
She brought her hands to her face, her cheeks blushed as red as could be. Why was she so terrible with something as simple as moving objects?! All she was doing was tearing his room apart!
FA: I'M SO SORRY! I DIDN'T MEAN TO DO THAT!
She glanced towards the orb, which, true to Ahmed’s words, had a bird head within its circular frame. It still did not provide any answers as to what it was or what they were supposed to be doing.
FA: I...
FA: I don't even know....
FA: This game is weird...
FA: Maybe... it...
FA: Fixed it?
Frisk was tempted to ask him why he wanted her to do anything related to using her cursor to manipulate his environment in any significant way, but she ultimately did what he asked her to after only a moment’s hesitation. After all, that’s what friends were for, right?
Without a clue as to what to do, she clicked on the bird-head orb, which reacted by making really loud noises. She clicked on it some more, seemingly only making the situation worse.
FA: I can't make it stop!
Thankfully, Ahmed was on top of things himself despite her nearly braining him a minute or so earlier, as he very quickly used some type of spell to quiet the orb. She tensed up as she watched him accomplish this stunt.
FA: Was that.. a no noise spell?
FA: Please... tell me it was just a no noise spell...
While Ahmed was celebrating, Frisk had taken to the Phernillia Registry, having remembered the Alchemitzer. Noticing the room was too small to house the giant platform with a pedestal, she quickly made more room with the “Revise” option before dropping the platform in the middle of the new room she had made.
FA: I'm....
FA: Yeah.... the, um...
FA: Alchemiter..
FA: Okay...
The platform’s pedestal contained some type of robot arm with an odd-looking device on it. As Ahmed placed the curvy cylinder on the pedestal, however, it became obvious what it was meant for. The robot arm retracted outwards, the device pointed straight at the crystal before shooting a laser beam at it, as if scanning it. Soon afterwards, a teal crystalline coat rack appeared on the platform before spawning a top hat on the ground.
FA: No! I swear, I'm not doing any of this!
FA: I'm trying to help you, I swear!
FA: I... I didn't know this.... it would do that..
FA: Um....
FA: Wear.... it?
Seemingly taking her advice, she watched as Ahmed took the top hat and placed it on his head. With the glasses, black hair, and “pharmacy clerk” look to him, he looked oddly snazzy in it.
FA: You look.... really, um....
FA: What's the word…
FA: Really, um... cool, Ahmed...
FA: Yeah…
She chuckled, observing Ahmed in his top hat for a little while. Suddenly, she caught a glimpse of something she hadn’t noticed before: on what remained of the Cruxtruder was a single black bar with red numbers, slowly counting down.
FA: By the way, um... Ahmed?
FA: Ummmm...
FA: I, um... don't know..
FA: What the numbers are for...
FA: The cruxtruder.
FA: Um....
FA: Oh... oh no... I'm so sorry I...
FA: I forgot about it....
FA: I'm trying! I really am!
FA: But this is so confusing...
FA: And I just...
FA: Don't know what to do...
FA: There's nothing....
FA: I don't know how to stop it...
FA: That's a bomb?
FA: Oh no... oh no oh no oh no no no
Any semblance of calm she might have had previously had vanished with those two statements. She desperately typed out a reply as fast as she could, her heart beating faster than it ever had before. If it was a bomb, and she had placed it in there and if he didn’t escape..
No… no please no no no no nO NO NO NO NO!
FA: I can't stop it!!
FA: You have to run!
Just before he could reach the door, however, Ahmed apparently tripped over something. Just as the countdown began to end, however, he punched the hat, seemingly breaking it before a bright light illuminated her screen.
Just as suddenly, however, came these words:
You have been disconnected from the client. Please reconnect.
What? she thought, staring at the screen for a while. Whatever had happened in the game, it had knocked out her internet completely. She pressed several buttons on her keyboard, trying her best to figure out how to bring it back.
Before she could, however, she was suddenly blasted off of her chair by a large, booming explosion outside her cave.
