Sometimes folks don't read the Updates topic, so I thought I'd put a thing here.
There's been a few instances lately of a somewhat entitled attitude when it comes to requesting updates from staff. As usual the vast majority of the site, this does not apply to.
Staff are just members with advanced permissions. We don't get paid for our work (we get donations, but most of that goes to server costs and upgrades, and it's hardly an hourly rate). There's a reason this site is structured with self-editable rosters, and purchase logs that don't require manual staff updates for everything - it's to make it so that members can do as much as we can. Even simple things like setting up your new roster yourself when you switch characters is something you can do, if you're keen. It's a tiny thing when you only have to do one, but when you have to do a bunch, it quickly becomes a bigger job.
Simple math: when ten people handle a bigger job, it becomes no big deal.
If you wanna make suggestions, like for example: "This thread sticky is out of date, please update it." Please consider submitting that work yourself. Or even compiling a list of relevant information so a staffer can use that to update it! That's just an example.
What I'm getting at, is that we're a community-run website, and we expect members to give as well as take. I think most of us get that, but it bears repeating from time to time. There's a reason the #1 rule is "Don't be a diva". This ain't Starbucks, the customer ain't always right - this is a family-run farm, and if we don't work, we don't eat.
While I'm here, thank you to those of you that do help out, staffer or otherwise. You're my silent heroes. <3
