So, the other night DL was talking about the idea of a group of Space Marines and other troops of the Empire who rejected then authority of Palpatine and fled the upper areas of Coruscant. Now, I think that this idea has a lot of potential, and could be pretty cool if fleshed out (as well as having a very good fluff reasoning, at least for the Astartes). So folks, thoughts? Ideas? Location for 'em? Good idea or half-brained chicken scratch? Post your thoughts to your hearts content!

I think that it would be cool to transcribe the Horus Heresy story into an OV parallel. I also favor mixing in other media into these stories, so you could have the current "Chapter Masters" be people from other mythos.

We could grab a bunch of characters that are traitors in their original media and assign them to Astartes chapters. Like, for example, Starscream might be the head of one if the traitor chapters that is rebelling against the Emperor.

I see the loyalists also being led by other characters, like the standing lore for the Ultramarines is that they're controlled by Dredd as part of the police force.

I imagine that they would flee into the lower levels of Corruscant, or eventually be banished and serve as an aspect of Diablo's Army. Would add an aspect of depth to the hell pit

Eh, not so sure about the latter one. If they'd still have any aspect of loyalty (to the other better Emperor, not to Palpy), they would probably be more likely to end up on a crusade in the Underverse. I mean, I doubt a lot of loyalist chapters, like the Salamanders (who are just too nice) or the Black Templars (who would flip their shit if they found out their leader used magic) would be too fond of the Empire or Diablo.

I'm more thinking that we nab the marines BEFORE the heresy, and then the traitor marines become like, the traitor marines?

As in the legions? Well, could work I guess, but they'd still need a good reason to work for the big man downstairs. It would also sort of limit the options fluff-wise, with only 18 groups to choose from and all.

Slightly off-topic, but the temptation to play a Spehs Mereen is high.
