There and Back Again
#1
As they crossed back into the next verse, Jon soon grew re-accustomed to the sights and surrounding of the Nexus.

A plain white canvas. Everywhere you walked, there was just white... there was little to see other than just that, though if you peered far enough off into the distance, the tips and arches of other gates which led to different verses became quite visible. Outposts and smaller encampments were still masked away, clouded by the white mists and fogs that hung around everywhere.

As they paced away from the gate, the Stormtroopers leading him were quite affirmative on where they were going. One of the Empire's many outposts that dotted the plains of the Nexus. This one was much closer to the Corucsant gate, though, and a mandatory pass for those wishing to pass the gate. It served as a border control of sorts, allowing desirables in and keeping the more reviled and troublesome of the Omniworld's citizens out.

The outpost was an extremely brief walk away from the gate. When they arrived, the Troopers patrolling the place allowed them in with no questioning glance or second doubt. They were able to navigate the minuscule encampment with ease, moving into an area that resemble something of a depot; vehicles both in fine states and disarray were placed and littered around the small yard. In the centre of things sat a golden speeder which could accommodate two people. A mechanic was knelt down by the car, apparently making smoke final touches and adjustments to the hovercars form.

"Gus" one of the Stormtroopers spoke up, the mechanic now revealed as Gus turning his head to look up at him. "Sergeant Josef..." the mechanic stood from his kneeling, dropping his tools for just a moment to greet the soldier. "It's nice to see you in good form, Sergeant" the mechanic spoke with a slight smile, extending his hand for a shake. Sergeant Josef stared down at his palm for a few moments, before lifting his own gaunleted hand to shake hands with the engineer.

"Likewise" the Sergeant smirked faintly through his helm. "I'm sure we can catch up on things later, Gus. But for now, I'm going to need that speeder" he continued as Gus opened his mouth to speak, silencing the mechanic almost immediately. "Ohh, urrhh, yes..." Gus spun back around, moving back over to the golden speeder, brushing his flat hand against the car's steel.

"She's all gassed up and ready to go, no problem" the mechanic nodded, reaching into his pockets to pull free a set of keys, tossing them over to the Trooper in a swift motion. "Just make sure I get the keys back, right? This isn't my car, after all... it's... the Empires."
Gus's lips formed into a tight, nervous line. He moved a hand to scratch the back of his head and re-adjust his cap.

"Right, of course" Josef nodded, dangling the key between his fingertips. As the mechanic hurried back over to the makeshift table and to his work, Josef stepped over to the speeder, with Jon following suit. "Any orders for me, Sergeant?" the silent and still-nameless Trooper piped up. Josef glanced to the Private as he and Jon climbed into the speeder. "I'm posting you here, for now. Never hurts to have an extra man at the outposts. We're on such a shortage already due to indecent primes" Josef grumbled. The Private did a small salute of understanding. "Roger that, sir" the Private responded before moving off, looking to make himself useful elsewhere.

Josef buckled up and slotted the key into vehicle's keyhole, to boot it up. Jon did the same, having been made more the wiser about cars and seat belts following his last recent dealing with a hover car in Corucsant. The engine stared up with a whir as the speeder slowly levitated up from the ground, Josef's hands carefully gripping around the steering wheel.

The speeder went into a forward starting motion as his foot pressed against the pedal. The Sergeant was careful to drive at a slow pace, now wishing to run any of his comrades posted around the outpost down. As they reared away from the encampment, the car picked up it's pace a little bit, with Josef pressing his foot down harder against the pedal (though still cautious and slow enough to make sure he didn't accidentally run someone down from not seeing them through the fog).

Jon inhaled sharply as they drove deeper and deeper into the white mist, the cloudy vapours submerging them completely from the eye's view. He sat back uncomfortably in his chair, quietly trying to enjoy the ride.
