Power Ups like Assists?
#1
Higher tier Assists allow for multiple lower tier Assists at the same time. I'm curious as to why Power Ups can't be done the same way? I've looked, not only do the two have the same prices, but even if you had 4 T1 Power Ups with any of the boosts, you can't break any of the rules EXCEPT the one saying "Only one transformation."

Combinations increase drastically if you include Powered Up Forms (Also same price.) Obviously you can only have one Powered Up FORM because it involves altering base stats.

I'm trying hard to think of a way to break this, but so far I can't find a way. >_> And before you say anything about Boosts, it's a 1/2/4 ratio all the way through, so using four T1's with boosts always equals the same as using one T3 with the same boost level, so this balances itself out no matter how you stack it. Here's an example of a T3 with the first boost level:

ATK 8 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 17
DEF 7 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 13
SPD 1 + 0 + 1 + 0 = 2
TEC 0 + 1 + 0 + 1 = 2

17 is half of 34. The above example is assuming that EVERY T1 power up idealizes one stat, which defeats the purpose BUT it proves that the system can't be broken.

Pros of this variance:
  • A character with T3 Power Ups has a LOT of variance when they choose to use T2 (six pairs, without counting Powered Up Forms) and a crapload of T1's that I don't even want to count.
  • More fodder possibilities, such as drinking two out of four of your potions at once.
Cons of this variance:
  • Cost. T3 would cost effectively 4k, where a regular T3 is only 2k.
  • T3 doesn't change much, neither more or less powerful than regular. Unless more Powerups of lower levels are purchased to add variance. This yields diminishing returns.
Am I missing anything? It seems a hell of a lot less complex than having four sentient minions running about. Is there a reason this is not allowed, or has no one questioned it before? I just think it'd be pretty cool late game to have a way to modify your mid-tiers. Aang might do something like this four each of the four elements with Intigration.

Thing is, when it comes to assists, having multiple lower tiers of them active at once gives more targets in a battle, which forces your opponent(s) to dive their attention and strength dealing with them. That said, if you don't want to have multiple weaker assists in use...don't? Buy a stronger one. Higher levels allow you to have multiple weaker assists out, or a single stronger one of the appropriate tier.

In regards to power ups, yeah being able to use more than one at a time would be useful and give variance, but it would also create a lot of paperwork and bookkeeping, and be much more expensive. And in the end, you're still only one target, so objectively it's not any better or worse than just using a single, strong power up.

You're welcome to do a flavor thing and say that your higher tier transformations are just using multiple lower-tier transformations simultaneously, but mechanically it would still be one, higher-tier power up. S'just the way the system works.

S'just the way it is. I like to limit ways of 'gaming' the system, and buying two lower-level powerups that you could combine to make your own higher-tier powerup seems like a cheap way of getting more than what you paid for.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

you can already sorta stack forms already.

It's called making an alternate form for combat purposes, then stacking a power-up on top of it.

Why would you do that when a Powered Up Form does the same thing for a third of the cost?

UGGGHHH SO MUCH USELESS MATH

I don't see it any more "Gaming the system" than having four T1 Assists on the battle field at the same time. Personally I think Assists are a bit more broken with the right combination of powers in the right numbers. Especially a Swarm-Debuff-Gankmob build. For Instance:

Black Mage x4
ATK: 2
DEF: 1
SPD: 0
TEC: 2
Gravity: Uses Attack to reduce a target's defense. Active effect, requires absolute concentration and no movement. No other Move can be used while casting Gravity. If a target's speed is negative, they are pinned down to the ground and take crushing damage.

That's an accumulative 8 attack. Not to mention of the Prime has the ability as well, which could put it well over 10 if he/she busts out a Power Up with it. This is legit a summoning idea I planned for a third character. Even at T2, 4 Attack still beats most people's speed unless they bust out a Power Up or Assist to counter. For 3100 (T1, T3, Move) this could force a target to spend SP to simply move. If the attacker uses the spell as well and has high Attack, half the Primes won't even be able to break even to stop the damage, Power up and all.

My point is that Assists in the eyes of a gamer are in themselves very janky.

You just blew 4 SP for a single post of whupping on someone.

Or 8 for a full round, then 4 for the next post (leaves 1 SP left.)

That requires level 13. A level we don't have anyone at yet.

Let's assume you wanna gank-squad a whole fight. That requires 24 SP for 3 rounds. With that same 24 SP, you could sustain a T3 Power Up and fire a T2 SM for three rounds.

At the end of the day, SP=SP. It's all graded the same. Your 4 man gank squad is equal to a T2 Power-Up and T2 Super Move in regards to who will win a fight.
