Decide My Alt
#1
You read the title. I'm quite a bit away from an alt, but just so that I can start planning for when I get there. So, I only really have two characters I'm considering:
Data (Star Trek: Next Generation):
Pros:
-Could set up Starfleet in the Omniverse
-Writing as a robot could be interesting
-He can summon a Secondary Spot

Cons:
-Not much move potential
-Writing as a robot is hard, especially one like Data

Next character:
Rick Sanchez (Rick and Morty):
Pros:
-A lot of potential, power and storyline-wise
-His weaponry would make moves easy
-Someone may be willing to make a Morty character, or there could be a Morty assist

Cons:
-Similar views on The Empire as Cole
-Staying close to the source material may be hard

Both would be very interesting to play, but both'd also be hard, hence the thread.

I'm favoring Rick, honestly, not sure how much the show sticks to character, so not sure how much of a flaw the second one is. Also, wouldn't he hate camelot, too? He hates bureaucracy and Camelot definitely has that.

But again, go with works for you. I'm not the greatest judge for what would gel with your writing.

Rick would be a nice contrast to Cole.

I considered Rick for a moment, since he's such a free spirit and his genius brain could come up with any sort of tech you want (ie. crazy Moves). I think he'd be a good choice if you could get that anarchist aspect down.

I think if I did Rick he'd do some gang quests in Coruscant, maybe join the Rebels, and definitely join the Liberation Front (not because he necessarily wants to free pokemon, but because he hates the governments in the Omniverse). He'd probably do some threads against the Camelot government, but not as much as Coruscant.

Wartortle would try to kill him, FYI. He hates humans so much.

In that case, he'd join Cinnabar Island, offering them any inventions they need and willing to get them resources, in exchange for a safe zone, away from all the governments that hate him (plus the community of Cinnabar seems like what he finds ideal for a community, canonically)

Data. Data. DaTa. You would be a GREAT Data, your writing style would totally gel with the character, I think. Establishing Starfleet would be kinda pointless without a Spaceverse, and besides, Data would be a fine choice on his own.

Although both have the potential to be dropped pretty quickly, Rick seems more "wow I kind of enjoyed that character, writing him would be good for all of 5 seconds".

I'd love Rick for entirely selfish reasons. Specifically, rebellion reasons. I plan on Akira making a good effort to get the rebels some momentum, with astral verse dream-hopping shenanigans possibly. Having more rebel primes invilved would be sweet, and maybe Akira could be Rick's intro to the rebellion. I shudder to think of the fun things that could happen with two distinct flavors of Chaotic working together, though I'm not sure where Rick falls on good/neutral/evil.

The first person to choose Data, and you make good points. I think the second makes sense, as it might get kind of annoying, I suppose would be the word, to constantly have a bounty everywhere. And of course, it's hard to make a character like him have meaningful development without a great deal of writing ability, which I think I don't yet have. I was thinking, if I establish Starfleet, it could be in Camelot, or the Vasty Deep, since there's unexplored land there?

There's unexplored land in every Verse. Even Coruscant's lower levels are practically uncharted territory.

That said, Vasty Deeps would allow you to have a fleet of ships. Maybe not spaceships, but as close as you're likely to get.

Plus, you know Data loves him some holodeck throwbacks

Or... you could go to the Dataverse! Big Grin

I'm on board with Data. He has two places that he would fit in well (Coruscant and Camelot (due to the throwback) as well as the Town with No Name (Same reason as Camelot.) His primary move could be various forms of long range weapons which change appearance depending on where he's at (Mini Crossbow becomes a Six shooter becomes a Phaser, depending on the verse.)

Data could easily disguise himself as a wizard and use his gadgets to mimic magic, or walk through Coruscant, like he would normally. There are plenty of gadgets to make a decent moveset, and its not like Data has nowhere to go.

I believe Data might be a challenge to write because of his personality, but everything else would be pretty easy, if you know where to go. Outside of the Omniverse, it seems like an excellent way to test and develop your skills.

I believe I've made my decision. So, ultimately, the winner, of the alt decision throw-down battle 2017 is... DATA! And I shall now binge watch Star Trek: Next Generation in preperation.

Don't forget make your Communicator an old rotary phone in your chest.

That I shall do.
