Baywatch: Costa Del Sol
#1
In the low stakes world of Costa Del Sol Beach Justice, the people are protected by two separate yet equally unimportant groups; the highly capable men and women that save the lives of beachgoers, and the stoners that hang out with them. These are their stories.

✶✶✶
Cedric Diggory, Cheif Lifeguard of Costa Del Sol Baywatch, sparkled under the overcast sky as he gazed out over Lifeguard Tower Nine and Three Quarters onto the beach. He flipped his hair breathtakingly and frowned with his luscious lips, causing the small crowd of middle-aged women who had taken to sitting around the tower drinking wine coolers to grow concerned for him. What terrible thought would dare cause such a sweet boy discomfort, they asked themselves. Is it the storm that darkened his mood? If it was, they thought to themselves, Omni  himself would surely part the clouds just to see Cedric smile.

Although it was indeed the storm that caused Cedric Diggory discomfort, it was because he was worried about the reckless surfers and tourists that still played in the choppy water and rising waves. Already, surfers were pouring in to catch the huge swells produced by the storm, and nothing short of a hurricane would distract the Magikarp trainers.

Every year, during spawning season, all the Magikarp trainers compete in a Magikarp race called the Magikarp Grand Prix for a prize of 100 OM. After they cross the finish line, the Magikarp keep swimming into The Vasty Deeps to spawn and maybe evolve.

Hnaaag, Volunteer Lifeguard of Costa Del Sol Baywatch, was one such trainer. The dreadlocked, blonde Wookie surfer took very few things as seriously as training his Magikarp, Gunther, for the upcoming Grand Prix; he planned to use the prize money to buy a new Magikarp.

Cedric watched the trainers, undeterred by the increasingly stormy conditions. His abominable muscles twitched in concern. He sighed as he walked back inside Lifeguard Tower Nine and Three Quarters.

"Frank," he says to the wall. "Any word from Fluer and Fen'iya?"

Cedric waited patiently for Frank to respond.

"Yeah," came the stoned Abra's telepathic ping."They said that the kid cut his foot on some glass, so um, I guess they patched up the kid and got rid of the glass. That's the second time this week, though."

An adorable scowl crossed over Cedric's face; if there's one thing he didn't tolerate it was littering.

"Ok, anything else?" the wizard asked.

"Uh, yeah, Fluer says, 'zis bikini, it eez too small', and Fen'iya says she's just exaggerating. So no," Frank answered in Cedric's mind.

"Alright, just uh, tell them to keep an out pier-side until Marla gets off work," Cedric responded. "I'm gonna go surf around the reef, the water look pretty choppy over there."

"Sure man," said Frank the Abra, unconcerned.

Cedric ignored the giggling women as he grabbed his red surfboard and walked down the ramp of the lifeguard tower, his wand tucked into his Hufflepuff-themed board shorts, his hair wafting in the ocean breeze.

"Hey Hnaaag," Cedric said as he waded into the ocean towards the albino Wookie. "Hey Gunther," Cedric said, and the crossed-eyed Magikarp flopped happily.

"Sup bro?" responded the Wookie. "Goin' out?"

"Yeah, just up to the reef real quick, look for stragglers. Keep an eye out till I get back?" Cedric asked handsomely, to which Hnaaag nodded.

Cedric paddled out into the cool, clear waters of Costa Del Sol, and every droplet of water that touched his skin considered itself lucky. He popper up onto his board, but instead of catching a wave, Cedric leans back on his board and starts to rise steadily into the air.

Cedric finally smiled, at which point an angel somewhere got it's wings. Like Harry, Cedric was an accomplished Seeker and natural flyer. Cedric, however, had taken to the flying surfboard much more quickly. To him it was more intuitive than a broomstick, more natural than swimming; it just felt right.

Cedric soared above the same reef where Harry had once saved a girl being attacked by a swarm of tentacool. He watched the Krabby's crawling atop it, scattering as his shadow passed over them. He came upon a pair of Kobolds sitting on the edge of the reef, fishing and telling jokes. AS Cedric flew by, they flagged him down, and he glided over to them.

"Hullo then," Cedric said dreamily.

"Sup," says one of the Kobolds, the one wearing a pair of khaki shorts. "I'm Garkyohillcrarnkeshka, this is my girlfriend, Cindy."

"Hi!" said Cindy politely, a slightly shorter Kobold in a pink sundress.

"Hullo Garkyohillcrarnkeshka, Cindy," replied Cedric, flashing his impossible straight teeth. "Did you folks need something?" he asked.

The Kobolds glanced at each other in surprise. "Well, no," said Cindy. "We just wanted to say that there's a storm coming and you should probably go ashore. Didn't you know humans can drown?"

Cedric lost his easy smile. "Thank you for the concern, you folks enjoy your afternoon," he said, gliding off, his Seeker's eyes scanning the waters.

Hnaaag the Wookie splashed happily with Gunther, his cross-eyed pet magikarp. The Wookie's long blonde dreadlocks floated in the water, swishing as he ran around Gunther wildly, 'training' him. For his part, Gunther was enthusiastic. The cross-eyed little Pokemon might not know that he was competing in the upcoming Magikarp Grand Prix, or know what Hnaaag was trying to tell him, or really know anything about anything, but he knew that the more he splashed around wildly the happier Hnaaag seemed to get, and that made Gunther happy.

Gunther used Splash.

"Wuuuuuarg!" exclaimed Hnaaag. "Gunther, we are so winning that prize money!"

Gunther used Splash.

Cedric Diggory zoomed towards the shore on his flying surfboard, stopping on a dime in front of Hnaaag.

"Sup," said Hnaaag.

"Nothing," said Cedric, a little relieved. Hnaaag nodded.

"Arite, I gotta go pick up Marla form work," the Wookie said.

Gunther used Splash.

Hnaaag chuckled. "Yeah, we're goin to see Marla, does that sound fun?"

Gunther used Splash.

"Yeah ok," said Cedric. "I'll be in the lifeguard tower when you guys get back."

With that, Hnaaag collected Gunther in his Pokeball, grabbed his board, and went to pick up Marla.

✶✶✶

Marla balanced several trays on her arms and blew a wisp of bright blue hair out of her face as she shuffled though the crowded family restaurant where she worked. The pretty Blue Caster Minion was in a bad mood, and it was clear why; her ex-boyfriend was sitting in her section.

Jeremy, the Blue Melee Minion, had brought with him a trashy young Twi'lek, who looked more bored than anything. Jeremy kept looking around to catch Marla's eye and sneer at her. Marla just rolled her eyes and she handed him his beer.

"Uhm," said the Twi'lek girl unpleasantly. "I ordered a cocktail."

"And I said I needed your ID, and you said it was in your car, and then you never got it," Marla replied unpleasantly.

Jeremy laughed, and the couple harassed Marla for another hour before leaving without a tip.

Marla got off a few hours later, the overworked waitress breathing a sigh of relief as she wandered out into the back parking lot to wait for Hnaaag. She lit up a cigarette, and dropped it when she heard a voice behind her.

"Hey," said Jeremy, leaning against the wall behind the restaurant. He was wobbling and reeked of beer, like he often did. Marla shuddered and started to back away. "Hey Marla you were right, that girl, that girl, she's too young for me, you know? Not like you," he mumbled as he lurched forward.

An eerie blue mist rose from Marla's hands. "Fuck off Jeremy, or I'll burn that ugly fucking face to shit," Marla said calmly. Jeremy chuckled, and with lightning speed pinned her against the wall by her arms. Marla squeaked as the breath left her lungs, and the fire from her hands was extinguished. Jeremy moved his face in close to her.

"See, no you've gone and made me loose my temper," he slurred. A single tear ran down Marla's face, and then a blur, and Jeremy was gone.

On the floor, bleeding from his head and moaning, was Jeremy. In front of her stood Hnaaag the Wookie, blood dripping from his right hand, Gunther tucked under his left arm, breathing heavily over Jeremy in a towering rage. The giant Wookie lifted Jeremy one-handed by his collar and pinned him up against the wall. Hnaaag snarled into his face.

"The next time I see you," he growled. "I'm going to twist your head off."

Jeremy spat blood. "The next time you see me, I'll have a sword, and I'll turn you into little bits of Wookie meat."

Hnaaag headbutted the Blue Melee Minion, knocking him out, and letting him slide to the floor.

Gunther gained 12 exp.

"Are you all right?" Hnaaag asked as he put his arm around Marla gently and walked her to the car.

Marla nodded silently.
