Mimic Questions
#1
hmmm Im thinking about bringing back my old character, but i need to know something first.

If I use Mimic to copy a move, does my character have to have the proficiency needed to actually use it during that confrontation? I know that if i were to choose to have it permanently then yes I would, but what if it was just for this instance?   As for super-moves would I be able to copy them as long as I could pay the sp cost to use?

Okay, for the use of copying regular moves, no, you don't need the proficiency. Mimic allows you to copy any move you've seen in character for up to an hour. For the super move, you can copy it for up to an hour in character as long as you can pay the SP cost.

Mimic – 2800 OM
A tactical and versatile ability, Mimic allows you to copy any powers or moves you've seen (or read with Insight) for up to an hour afterwards in-character. You must witness this in-person; watching someone use a move on a screen, for example, will not work. To use a Super Move you have copied, you must also pay the SP cost for it, and to copy things permanently you must buy them with OM (i.e. you have to buy the move yourself if you want to keep it in all circumstances). Bear in mind that you will not copy the target's stats - the move's effectiveness will depend on your own stats - and you will be somewhat less skilled than if you had the ability or move yourself.

You will only need said proficency if you wish to copy said move permanently.

For clarification, Mimic doesn't really have restrictions on how many things you can Mimic at once, and can be used to Mimic Proficiencies. So there's that too.

@ Starlight- Thanks, but the question you answered was already answered. Appreciated it though homeslice.

@Ussop-sama: mmm even more inticing.

The whole talk about Mimic makes me wonder... what about moves that require Powers? Are those powers copied for the mimicked move only, or can they not be mimicked at all?

Well, Mimic does say any move or power, so I assume you can copy a move that requires a power.

hmm there arn't many from what I've saw. To use moves you have to have proficiency but you only need the power to use them.

Mimic, as written, could allow you to copy an entire arsenal at once, so I would assume you could get the Powers along with the Moves.

Granted, it'd take Insight to do so, or watching the person USE their arsenal.

Well, mimic does also allow you to copy moves that use powers such as Time Manipulation, Burst Movement, Shapeshifting, and Healing, which don't necessary require a proficiency to use.

You actually cannot copy proficiencies. Screenshot here since it's in the Staff Forum and most people can't see if I link to it.

The only thing that this really effects is Physical Strength, though, as that's the only Proficiency that doesn't require a move. Any other move you can use as if you had the Prof, as stated.

Everything else about copying moves and powers is correct.

Hmm... since Moves can be used to enhance the effects of Powers, could you make a Move to copy Profs and Power-Ups? Would it require a Super Move? Or is it a hard "no"?

I'm pretty sure that it's a hard no. Moves can be used to "horizontally" enhance the effects of powers, not "vertically". In other words, you could for instance enhance Super Jumping with a move that allows you to take other people along, or buff them to give them Super Jumping as well. But you could not create a move that allows you to Super Jump higher than what your Power-imposed limit is.

That, and there's been instances of people trying to make moves that extend a power's effect, and I have yet to see any of them being approved (like TBG making a move that copies an artefact).

Shang Tsung has a Utility Super that allows him to get around the 'glitching' that happens when being struck during a normal Shapeshift. While I'm inclined to agree with your thoughts, I wouldn't say it's entirely impossible until the big man weighs in on it, in light of that example. It's not exactly the same thing as mentioned here, but it is an example of a Move getting around a downside of a power.

Would it be possible to make a super move that uses telepathy and mimic to copy moves that someone has seen/been hit by? Sort of, recalling a person's past traumas and using it against them.

My instinct is No, as mimic requires you to see it in person, and seeing it performed not in person doesn't work. Look for instance at the fact that you can't watch it for a screen being the example given in the power itself, which is kind of similar to seeing it through insight.

You could copy someones Moves by just having Enhanced Senses, Insight, Mimic, and a higher TEC score (in the event that the individual has Supression).

What you described falls under the nebulous umbrella of forced mind reading, which is included in the Telepathy description and likewise requires high(er) TEC than your target.

Oh, I was a bit too vague there, sorry.
It wouldn't be copying the moves they know, but rather moves that they've witnessed.
Instead of you copying a move straight from a person, it would be copying a move that the other person would be able to mimic.
For Reference: Satori Komeiji hypnotizes the MC in Subterranean Animism and forces them to recall attacks that they've faced in the past.
If you're playing as Marisa+Patchouli, then when you fight her as Marisa, you're facing attacks that Patchouli had previously used against Marisa. Patchouli isn't actually there, and is rather communicating via radio, so instead Satori crudely mimics Patchouli's attacks by using Marisa's memories.
...that was a clusterfuck to try and write.
