Decisions, decisions... (Part III)
#1
As Sabrina is slowly ascending towards that 22.000 OM mark, I am starting to consider my options for a third character. And, as many of you may know, I am horribadly incapable of taking decisions. Because of this, my "this character could be fun" list grows ever longer.
(I've ruled out a few characters based on my thinking of "which ones I want just cause they seem cool?" but a number remain, detailed below.)

That's why I decided to make yet another thread asking for you guys to help me! If you think any of the characters mentioned below is an awesome idea or someone I really should not have on this list (or anything in between), just write it. Just, please do NOT suggest yet more characters, unless you want to drive me completely crazy Tongue

WARNING: The below characters may include heavy spoilers to their respective canons! If you're not very far into a specific canon and don't want to spoil yourself, skip it.

The Elder Kiln - Runescape
This is a pretty wild idea that I came up with - and may, to my knowledge, be the first "Object" Prime since Koren the sword. Here's a link if you want to read more about the Elder Kiln - be warned, it includes a LOT of Runescape lore. For those not interested, it's basically a giant forge capable of creating living beings.

The pros are mainly about the originality of the character and its possible implications - will it have a Secondary that fakes being the Prime, while the Kiln itself poses as an object that is essentially an enormous tool or a dwelling of the fake Prime? It also has the pros of being a character from a verse with very rich content and lots of fictional culture.

The cons revolve around the character being hugely expensive. It is likely going to need Shrink and Malleability to even fit through most Nexus Gates, if such an enormous character is even allowed in the first place, even if I tone it down some, it will need Shapeshifting and a handful of powers and proficiencies. Not to mention, its moves will be absurdly complicated because it fights through summoned constructs rather than by itself. Finally, I wonder if a character like this would even be functional in events such as Dante's Abyss.

In short, it's a high risk high reward option.
Yang Xiao Long - RWBY
I could give Yang another try! There would be a little less reliance on a complete RWBY team - chances are that I would make a Blake NPC Prime to complete the quartet, if nobody else makes her - but the character is still fun.
I believe that after a lengthy period of not having watched RWBY - especially the later episodes - I have gotten over my bitterness with Yang's character, and can give her a second shot. It may not work out, or it may. I've no idea.

Pros include that Ruby and Weiss are already in the Omniverse and there is a little history going on from back when Blake and Yang existed. Yang is also a character different in personality from my two other ones (Sabrina and Amaterasu) and someone that could be fun.

Cons include that Ruby is not particularly active and Weiss mostly hangs with her. As I am a very active person I may not meet them much in the Omniverse unless something changes. Also, because RWBY is not concluded and growing progressively dark, I am afraid of being dealt yet another blow if Yang suffers more, one way or another. If that happens I may ditch her entirely.
Iskander - Fate Zero
Possibly the character that's been on this list the longest. Iskander has a very interesting personality and I would say he plays very different from my current characters. He also has the potential to be both a hero and a villain.

Pros include his personality, behavior and the nature of his abilities - he seems fun! A very laid-back character even in the face of danger, unlike other characters who are only happy-go-lucky because they haven't faced a proper threat yet. He would not be "broken" by the Omniverse, I believe. He would enjoy it. We also have Girugamesh on the site whose character is from the same verse, and even knew Iskander. There may be space for interaction.

Cons are mainly about a limited movepool once I reach a certain mark, and I don't really know where to go from there. I'm also generally unsure about where to take it. I believe there are other characters offering more potential.
Mirajane Strauss - Fairy Tail
I've been on and off considering her, but the fact remains - Mirajane is easily one of my top favorite characters in Fairy Tail after a certain point. She gets a ton of points for being a general cool character/awesome big sister/fun-loving even when not using her spells. When using her magic, she's a total badass. And if she also flips her "evil" switch, the badassery-meter explodes. In short, her badassery makes her even better than Erza, in my opinion. Couple that with her general fun and friendly nature (when she's not in her evil mode) and she could be a very fun character!

Pros are, as described above, her general badassery and how she can flip from "friendly" to "murderous". Also big sister factor (I'd bring Lisana to the Omniverse, no second thoughts about that) and Erza + Gildarts exist in the Omniverse already, which opens some possibility for interactions. The universe she is pulled from is fairly rich in characters in general.

Cons are the egregious amount of fanservice that Mirajane (as most female Fairy Tail characters) is subjected to - I mean hell, at one point she has a bikini contest with her rival, and the rest of the time she's usually dressed in very "airy" dresses. That just generally irks me. Also, Erza and Gildarts are miles above my writing levels, meaning that I may only interact with them very rarely, if at all.
Kaguya Otsotsuki - Naruto Shippuden
Possibly the biggest spoilers anyone can read that is not done with Naruto yet! Read at your own discretion!

Kaguya is... well, the final-est boss of the final-est bosses. She is the single person who has shaped the entire Narutoverse with her actions and on some level all the storyline threads lead back to her. She's also a character with huge depth despite her brief appearance and a character of nearly endless possibilities because, well, she's the source of all Chakra and of all Kekkei-Genkai. She's essentially the entire Narutoverse combined into one character.

Pros include her endless possibilities without straying from canon. Most powers, proficiencies and moves can be slapped on her just fine because of how infinite the range of her powers in the Narutoverse was. She'd need millions of OM to just obtain the powers present in the official Naruto canon. Also, she would be an awesome evil character, and her "chakra draining" power would merge really well into Omnilium extraction.

Cons include that in the Naruto universe Kaguya was so grossly overpowered that she only really was defeated because of plot - and that would be pretty much impossible to include in the Omniverse until I get ten stat-ups and a T3 Power-Up. And even then it's debatable. The lady had reality-warping, space-manipulating powers and a "one-hit certain death" attack for god's sake. Plus, any Naruto character present in the Omniverse knows that she needs to be banished, pronto.
Ditto - Pokemon
This one is... egh. Ditto already exists but was swapped out from, and I wouldn't want to nab the character unless I am certain that his player doesn't come back. Ditto is quite an interesting character however because of his Shapeshifting and Mimic powers, which is something I would love on any character I could have, but this character literally revolves around those two powers.

Pros include Shapeshifting and Mimic being an integral part of the character's kit.

Cons include that Ditto is from the same universe as Sabrina and that the character used to be taken, meaning that he has a history that I couldn't pick up on (I don't trust myself with that).
EDIT #1
Ditto and Yang are ruled out. Ditto could be made without faceclaiming as it's a replacable character (there's more than one Ditto out there), meaning that I can consider him as an NPC Prime for Sabrina. Possibly, I'm not entirely certain. And Yang, I decided is a little too reliant on her team (Ruby, Weiss) for proper functioning and I already transferred too much to Sabrina (moves) to not feel like I have two very similar characters.

I want to sincerely thank Sarah/Weiss, Ash/Kung and Spur for their help - I really appreciate that and your support, guys.

EDIT #2
Iskander has to go too. The things he offers don't make up for the errors he has and the other characters on the list are just better fits for me. Tough choice, though.

As far as the list goes:

Yang - Will just note that Ruby/Weiss might get more active later, but are probably not going to be moving at a quick pace anytime soon, sadly.

Kaguya - since the canon doesn't really give much in terms of guidelines for her personality (except in very broad strokes) how would you plan on playing her?

Ditto - Just play a ditto of a different type maybe? Given they're a species rather than a single being, you could just make a new backstory for an unrelated ditto. Ditto are fun.

Mirajane -
Quote:Also, Erza and Gildarts are miles above my writing levels, meaning that I may only interact with them very rarely, if at all.

Stop dat right now. You're an awesome writer, they'd likely be privileged to write with you, and you shouldn't be thinking about "who your writing level" intersects with instead of having fun and derping around!

The fanservice thing's an understandable con though.

Iunn even know about the Elder Kiln and Iskander, so not much to say there.

Another RWBY team member would be awesome and I do like the idea behind Kaguya Otsotsuki. It's up to you which one you feel comfortable with at the end though.

I'm unfortunately not very knowledgeable about most of these characters/sources, but here's a little input regardless!

You seem to have transferred a lot of Yang over to Sabrina, with the gauntlets being found by her. Duplicate moves that take so much priority in combat could make the character feel repetitive, as tempting as it might be to get the RWBY team back together. I would avoid this one unless you have a very strong pull towards this character's personality and a solid plot idea.

Gildarts and Erza are great writers, but so are you. Even if you weren't (which, again, you really are. Take my word for it: you were briefly involved in a star piece quest on Cinnabar Island... I was watching you closely while thinking about TWO of my characters and how it would affect them) I'm confident in saying they would love to tell a story alongside you, so you can dismiss that already irrelevant concern.

Mirajane is my vote, based soley on the fact that the cons you've listed are easily negated by your own writing and direction. Ditto is my other vote, after touching base with Illidan/Jim, but that's simply because its the only source material I'm familiar with, of that list.

Final bit of (worth what you paid for it) advice: I had six characters I was actively considering for my third, but writing a post as them narrowed it down to just two, which made it that much easier to pick one. I didn't do the Nexus entry post, I just wrote a theoretical post involving them already established in the Omniverse. The same methods don't always work for everyone, but that was mine at least.

I'll reply to the above in order Smile Thank you for all your input thus far, I really appreciate it!

I do agree on Ditto... suppose I didn't take into account that they are technically a replacable character. On the other hand, because that means I wouldn't take away a fallback option, I could consider making him an NPC Prime as there would be no "faceclaiming". Hmm... I'll have to think about this a bit.

Kaguya's very open, that's a pro I should have added. She's described a lot by other characters but because her personality doesn't appear all that much it leaves me with more freedom of decision. Which makes ruling her out more difficult, and leaves me with more "good" picks Tongue

And as for Gildarts & Erza... I do appreciate your, and Spur's, encouragement, and I sincerely thank you for it! I just feel like especially Gildarts's writing is objectively better than mine. I know that nobody (or hopefully nobody, anyway) on this site is arrogant enough to seek only partners similarly skilled, but I did, as an instance, feel a little overwhelmed by the better players's posts in this year's DA. (this may just be an instance of "On the other side of the fence the grass is always greener", of course) I'm just worried that I would not be able to keep up with either's levels very well.
Mirajane did definitely rise in my rankings though.

The problem is that I feel comfy with all of the above Big Grin There were a whole lot more characters that I ruled out based on "this one doesn't feel like me" that didn't make it on the list.

True - Sabrina has gotten Yang's weapons. I do still consider her a potential pick because her personality is vastly different from Sabrina though Tongue (Yang is way more temperamental and aggressive where Sabrina is collected and defensive). I'll have to think a bit about this though. Possibly even rule Yang out entirely.

For Mirajane, please see above for what I wrote in response to Sarah (I'm lazy Tongue)

I'll get to writing once I have it narrowed down to max. 3 characters. I heard the advice before but I want to narrow it to a proper list, as 5 characters is just too much.

Thread closed!

I figured something out, just need to design it and submit it as soon as I hit that level 5 with Sabrina!

Arrrgh... yet another candidate is stepping into the arena! Just when I thought I'd settled for the Elder Kiln.

A Metroid! Or, to be exact, the Metroid Infant that believed Samus to be its mum. Pros and cons time (I'll repost the Elder Kiln bit for comfort purposes)

The Metroid - Metroid series
The Metroid Infant carries a lot of feels with it, as it was both an adorable and an important character, to my knowledge. To be very brief about it, Metroids are synthetically engineered lifeforms that suck the life energy out of their victims and evolve into bigger and badder forms. They were first made to be a weapon against a parasite, but became a pretty important part of the series. The infant is the last remaining Metroid, which believes Samus is its mother.

Pros include that it's a character all about evolution. It could physically evolve as it gains power, becoming an Alpha, Zeta, Omega etc. Metroid or even evolve into some form I make up for it (Ridley Metroid?). The series also included all sorts of other material such as Phazon-mutated Metroids, incomplete clones etc. and if I were to run out I could still mix in something like it being able to Mimic appearances.
A cool storyline could include Coruscant experimenting with it, or possibly even creating it (did they somehow get some of Samus's DNA which includes Metroid DNA?) as a Secondary before it became a Prime. Automatic "There are no Lines" quest point right there.

Cons include that a Metroid is a mindless animal. They don't even have a real brain. That means it will need to grow intelligent somehow.
My knowledge of the Metroid Games is also limited to a pair of games as well as wikia access, and I am not certain that I would be able to play it to par. It could also be a fairly expensive character to build, as Flight is pretty much a requirement for its first couple of forms, and it has a bunch of alt or power-up forms.
Again, juggling with difficult ideas... what do you guys think? Is there a clear winner for you?
