August Monthly Accolades (Until September 12th)
#1
Summer days are almost over, but the proverbial pens remain heated, so it is time to recognise the creative quality of our members. Welcome to the August edition of the Monthly Accolades!

For those of you who are unaware, the Accolades involve nominating (and later, voting for) those who have outdone themselves in a particular area each month. For variety's sake, the categories for each month may be different.

You have until September 4th to nominate your choices. After that, we will proceed to the voting phase where members will vote among the two individuals with the most nominations for each category. An exception to this is if someone manages to get 5+ more nominations than the runner-up, in which case that person becomes the winner by default.

If you wish to participate, think of who stood out the most in a particular category this month and post your choice, along with a 2-3 sentence long explanation, in this thread. You are not barred from nominating your own characters/threads, nor do you have to fill out all the categories.

The winners will become this month's "Community Stars". And what benefits does this bring? Here is an explanation, courtesy of Alex:

(07-26-2016, 11:34 AM)Alex Wrote: As part of being voted as a Community Star/User of the Month (I use the terms interchangeable mainly because Community Star is less formal-sounding than User of the Month), these members gain a color (you must select this in your User CP) and access to the Community Stars R&D forum.  In the past this was my pseudo-private forum, but I changed the name so people are aware they can use it if they please.  I do a lot of brainstorming in there and pre-planning for stuff.  Stars are welcome to share their thoughts and their own ideas if they desire.  Or don't -- it's optional.

Community Stars R&D - http://omniverse-rpg.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=36 (Note this will only work if you're part of the User of the Month User Group)

Edit - Forum access is for the month following a member's selection as a Community Star, and this is irregardless of which 'accolade' you were selected for.

And now for this month's categories:

‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?

‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?

Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.

Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)

'Best' Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining? (For the sake of giving smaller threads a chance to shine, Dante's Abyss is automatically excluded from the running)

'Best' DA '16 Participant - This year's Summer Syntech Event has now come to a close. Going in a new and unexpected direction, it ultimately produced several winners, all of them well-deserving of the title. That said, opinions will inevitably vary on who among them was the best, and some might even favour a person that dropped off before the end. So we'd like to hear your thoughts. Which participant in DA '16 impressed you the most?

'Best' NPC – What non-player character (can be a site, personal, or story NPC) entertained you the most (for whatever reason). Please note who the 'owner' of said NPC is, just in case I am not familiar with them.

Purple Ribbon - Consider this a bonus category for nominating someone who, while they may not be the best and have all the twitter followers, you believe deserves to be recognized for what they bring the the Omniverse. (The winner must be a DIFFERENT person than last month's winner; the July winner was Dark Link)

Well, in that case, I nominate me for all categories, even the ones that don't apply to me!
PvP Flag: GREEN
I won't mind if you attack my character or base with little to no warning!

I'd like to nominate Dominator/Goku's Star Piece thread in the Pale Moors. Absolutely wonderful. It kept me waiting for each new post, and a prime (HAHAHAHA) example oh how a star piece should be earned.

Because this thread might not have received as much attention as it normally would as a result of the increase in the Omniverse Discussion activity, I am extending the deadline for nominations to September 7th.

‘Best’ Character – !!CAPTAIN AMERICA!! I really, really like how Cap's writing this character. It's like, stars and stripes and well-written character interactions. Awesome job!

‘Best’ WriterCarmelita continues to impress with her general awesomeness! I like how she writes her character's personality and actions, and her performance in and outside of DA has been spectacular.

Most HelpfulMark, for dealing with things that are tedious all the time.

Rising StarNezha is a pretty great writer and already cavorting about in the Omniverse! Super cool character concept, too. Smile

'Best' StoryGoku's star piece quest in the Pale Moors was just, super freaking rad. I was thoroughly entertained all throughout. It's A Little Fall of Rain if anyone wants to read it.

'Best' DA '16 Participant - Okor! I'm pretty sure I nominate him for stuff all the time, but yeah. Okor is like, what I strive to be as a writer, and his writing in DA was absolutely top notch.

'Best' NPC – N/A (I can't remember any NPCs right now, uhhhh.)

Purple Ribbon - Skeletor! This person's Moors thread is off to a great start! The monk guy's mannerisms were hilarious.

Most Helpful – Jade. Because I don't think anyone has that much patience.

'Best' DA '16 Participant - This feels like an ironic question to have me answer. The answer, anyway, is Mark/Vincent Valentine. Not a single person dialed it up to 11 and didn't waver throughout the course of the saga. Some other people may have hit 12 at points, but Mark was at 11 for literally the entire competition.

'Best' NPC – Karl Jak, obviously. The guy had to escape an island with the help of a bunch of sociopaths and social outcasts. He is a saint and a man of unlimited compassion.

Purple Ribbon - Dark Link, for continually giving stuff like this and Book Club his time and effort despite awful or half-assed turnout.

‘Best’ CharacterThe Future Warrior. I really enjoy this character's personality, as well as their interactions with the Imperials. Looking forward to more!

‘Best’ WriterMark. On top of running the table during DA, he's finding the time to write a great story with Kakashi, alongside Minato.

Most HelpfulJade is on top of so much stuff, and has really helped me learn the ropes of being on staff.

Rising Star – Everything I've seen from Nezha so far is pretty good. They're jumping right into the world. Keep it up!

'Best' DA '16 Participant - Christa Adams, by Gildarts. Because I spent the whole saga trying to find her in the first place. But in all seriousness, Christa had a great story and it's going to keep going past the end of DA.

Purple Ribbon - The Humble Sage/Skeletor. Level headed dude, tells great stories with both his characters, and just a fun presence around the shoutbox.

best character: vision I am impressed by both the way pseudo-code is spliced into the text in ways that make sense and have meaning, but also in the way that the Ovengers have become one of the most active PC-factions currently in operation, well done sir!

best writer: I would concur that Mark has been at the top of his game throughout DA and really all summer! You go, man!

most helpful: Daniel is a good presence on this site, helping everything stay smooth, and letting people know when they step out of line, its not a fun task, but he does it with a good level of control.

Rising Star: This is a tough one, as we've had a bunch of new members join recently. I will have to go with Eda, as she has been immediately engaging with all the opportunites that this site presents, and I look forward to watching the character grow.

Best Story: While by no means done yet, Avast Me Hearties is a great story by Caira and Zack, as another person shooting for the same starpiece I was watching this storyline develop with particular interest. Alas, I got caught up in College and life, and the Sage is no longer ahead in the quest, but I look forward to reading the rest of what these two accomplish, best of luck to you both!

Best DA participant: I think remila Scarlet flew a little bit under the radar this DA, but was a solidly developed and written character, who I look forward to reading more of in the future.

Best NPC: Karl again. Dude rules his world.

Purple Ribbon: Guu, because we all know who the true queen of the Omniverse (or at least its messageboards) is
If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.

I apologise for the late response, these past two days were rather hectic, so this thread slipped my mind. But now it's time for voting!

Voting will last until September 12th. You may vote even if you hadn't made any nominations. If you have and a nominee you put forth is in the run-offs, you don't have to cast your vote for that specific category (unless you wish to cast your vote for the opponent instead); your nomination will automatically count as a vote for the nominee.

‘Best’ Character – Captain America vs. The Future Warrior vs. The Vision
'Best' DA '16 Participant - Okor vs. Vincent Valentine vs. Gildarts vs. Remilia Scarlet

‘Best’ Writer – Kakashi Hatake
Most Helpful – Jade Harley
Rising Star – Nezha
'Best' Story – 'A Little Fall of Rain' by Goku
'Best' NPC – Karl Jak (Alex)
