Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb!
#1
Well, it seems not everyone in the Omniverse is bad. On my away out of Camelot, a man garbed in leather biker attire happened by. He was a large scruffy man with big poofy hair that reached all the way down his back. He offered me a ride.

I was just reading about the Avengers, some sort of hero group and how they are stationed in the Vasty, so I told him that's where I needed to be. The trip there went by WAY faster, and I still had my hands free to check my phone. Some super hero named Vision was going to help me apparently. That's an interesting name for a hero.

When we made it to the Vasty gate, I was surprised to see Guards posted. I had a sinking feeling about this place.

At least I did at first. When we crossed over the portal, I was surprised to see some sort of tropical vacation hot spot, a crowded one.

I really hope that Vision guy arrives soon. I don't want to think if I accidentily set off this bomb somehow.

I say farewell to the biker who took off down the street, and I sat alone the gate, watching for a hero.

The Vision nodded to Edwin Jarvis.

“Request: alert me of any other newcomers.”

“Of course, Mr. Vision.”

“Now, I must hurry. I am quite late for my meeting with Ms. Frisk.”

The Vision had been improving his density management abilities. While he could turn his body nearly incorporeal, to his astonishment, he was unable to render his body light enough that the air was more dense than his body. In other words, while he could render his body practically into non-matter, he still could not adjust his altitude via floating.

To his frustration, his next assignment manifested before he was able to master his flight. He calmly deployed one of the speedboats in the dock. As the boat skidded over the vast oceans, the Vision let his head tilt back ever so slightly, letting sunlight drain into the large crystal in his forehead. Perhaps he needed to absorb more powerrrrrrr

Skynet again. In his time refining his abilities, the Vision noticed the malevolent AI chattering in his head, constantly attempting to assert dominance over the Vision’s body. He could not accomplish this task. The Vision’s antivirus program was operating constantly, halting every command or program not coded under the Pym Protocols. For now, Skynet was just an annoying voice in his head.

The android was now approaching the gate. The roaring of the motor quieted down as the boat slowly brushed against the shore.

The Vision turned his head to glimpse at his target. He found someone that matched the description. He calmly approached her and smiled.

“Hello, Ms. Frisk,” he amiably chirped, “My name is the Vision. I am here regarding the bomb threatening your life.”

I saw the green and read man walking up. He certainly looked like a superhero, an odd looking one but a superhero nonetheless. I'd be a bit wary to immediately trust that this was the guy here to save my life, but then again, standards change when you have a bomb strapped to your arm.

I stood up from the ground next to the gate. I step over and hold out my arm to him. It's a large metallic device painted a pastel pink. It had has a large panel with bright LED numbers counting in random interval, indicating it was measuring something.

"Princess Bonbon Sunshine put this on my arm. She told me it would explode if I were to use magic while it is on." I said, trying to keep it down so to not catch the attention of people nearby. "I'm probably a secondary so just blowing it up in a safe place is risky. Can you help me?"

The Vision promptly scanned the bulbous device on Ms. Frisk's arm.

> simuStruct "Hex2_54"

The Vision looked to his left. A hologram projected from his eyes, displaying a 3D model of the standard-issue Hex 2.54 device, including the electronic components hidden inside.

"Fascinating," the android muttered, scanning Frisk's arm again. A similar but ultimately different hologram projected adjacent to the first.

"What is?"

"This is a modified Hex 2.54 explosive device. Princess Sunshine's prediction is accurate. Any attempt to use magic would result in an undesirable circumstance."

Ms. Frisk frowned.

"Fortunately, I do not use magic," the android continued. He nodded reassuringly. "Query: may I begin?"

He gestured towards Frisk's wrist. The little girl nodded, thin eyes quivering.

The Vision felt his hand slowly become lighter. He felt his arm begin to lift to adjust to air pressure.

> set_density zone[11051335] 210.3225%

His elbow became a heavy weight, anchoring the android's hand in a delicate balance. It was important that the Vision had complete control of his hand while disarming this bomb.

> set_density zone[4410398.11355.0000000] ($restore)

The subatomic edges of Vision's fingertips became solid again, a presence barely sensed by the matter surrounding it. Unfortunately, this suspension of density was straining the Vision's energy levels substantially. He needed to finish quickly.

He turned and watched the hologram of his fingers, simulating his motions. Frisk eyed the surgical process nervously.

"First, I will need to alter the detonation protocols."

As he spoke, the Vision flicked his fingertip against a network of glowing lines. The gauntlet responded with a click.

"T - minus - five seconds."

Frisk gasped, nonplussed. The Vision nodded.

"As expected."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"A moment."

"Five-"

The Vision rapidly altered the density of the very outer layer of his wrist, so that Frisk's arm was essentially wrapped inside the Vision's.

"Four-"

With a quick jerk, the Vision pulled his arm back. The bomb was now on his wrist.

"Thrrrreeeeeeeee-"

Time slowed down as the Vision attempted communication with the explosive. He was a technopath, after all. But this was primitive technology, with an uneasy simulation of a program. The device was clearly magical in nature, as programmed as it was. Thus, the communications were most likely to be peculiar. However, he was not here to converse.

As he analyzed the device further, his code processed hundreds of lines in the course of one nanosecond.

"huey oWa o?r"

The Vision paused. This was too soon. He needed to buy some time before the device could deduce the reason for his presence.

"Who are you?"

"My name is the Vision," the android responded, "I am here to discuss your impending detonation."

"No one's been able to talk to me before."

"I'm quite proficient in technopathy," the android responded, "I am here to apologize."

Vision sighed. "Then I apologize."

"For what?"

"This," the android grimly responded. He cut communications.

"Two-"

The Vision promptly sent a small microwave signal to the device, disrupting its crystalline circuits. He lowered his head as he phased his arm, allowing the device to drop harmlessly and unceremoniously onto the sand.

Frisk watched the Vision's face.

"How did you do that?"

The android turned to the girl, face emotionless. "The circuits were charged by naturally magnetic metals inside the crystals. Its exact engineering is a mystery to me, but for now..."

The android smiled. "You are safe."

“That was amazing!” I said, impressed by the robot man’s work.

I kind of wish we did this in and uncrowded place, but he probably knows better than I do.

“You’re safe Ms. Frisk. Now I must take this device to my base so it can be properly disposed of.”

He turned to reach for the device, but he was stopped by the cautious sound of my voice.

“Oh um… Can you take me with you?”

He turned to look towards me, I continued.

“I want to make a difference in this world. I want to join the Avengers! Even if all I can contribute is mopping your floors.”

I look down bashfully at my own forwardness, I rub the back of my head nervously in the gaze of my hero.

“I mean, I don’t have anywhere to go and after what I’ve been through, I just want to help out.”

The Vision gazed at Frisk. The child had lowered her gaze sheepishly.

For a moment, he thought he saw Jocasta in front of him. An emotion - registered as guilt - washed over the buzzing programs in his head.

He quickly grabbed the defused explosive. Gingerly holding it in his hand, he turned to Frisk.

"That can be discussed" the Vision said, "At any rate, I would like to question you. I defused the explosive device without further preparations because it was my duty to protect you and these civilians. But now that duty is fulfilled, and I will need to understand its context. I need to calculate the risk factor of this Princess Sunshine... or other parties involved."

The android glanced at Frisk once more.

"Afterwards, if you demonstrate that you are not a safety risk, you may stay at Avengers Tower for as long as is reasonable. Whatever that may mean to you."

As he turned to board his motorboat, he smiled once more at the little girl.

"To be concise, it depends on you, Ms. Frisk. And don't worry about the floors."

Frisk, delighted, climbed into the boat. "Why do you say that?"

"I would not charge anyone besides Mr. Jarvis with the task of cleaning our floors," the android chuckled, "We have... many."

With an (almost amiable?) roar, the motorboat started sailing towards the Avengers headquarters.
