So, there was a discussion between me and a few friends, that sparked from a possible character of mine;
Would you be interested, if within Omniverse there was a shop you could buy all your consumables, banishment circles, shady communicators, base upgrades etc, from? Of course also a bag of Doritos.
While yes, you could summon them yourself. But at the same time isn't we thought it's at times silly that people are summoning things they don't know of/haven't ever heard of/and so on.
So, you could buy them from the shop instead, and that way justify why your character has 'em.
So, what I'm trying to ask;
Would you be interested in shopping in such a manner, rather than just summoning them out of thin air?
(From game mechanics standpoint, the OM used as payment obviously wouldn't be actually gained by the shopkeeper. Just a fluff thing.)

You know I'm down for this. =P
Oh, and also there's the possibility for 'mail-order' stuff for people who don't want to trek all the way to a different verse. I imagine obnoxious ads across the Dataverse. =P
Maybe a free candy with purchase?

I'd imagine stuff like Banishment Circles would be black market due to being, y'know, the way to ensure a Prime is tortured?

Banishment Circles aren't illegal though, at least to my knowledge... even officials use 'em.
Love the idea by the way ^_^

Banishment Circles, to me, just seem like they would be harder to obtain. They kinda send people to Omniverse Hell.

Some shopkeepers are more resourceful than others.
:iiam:
EDIT: Plus, I mean right now we can literally will them into existence. Soooo...

Adds more of a RPG feel! I'm up for it.
Adds some more fodder for RP as well, rather than the ol' summoning.

This just feels more fun than summoning. I like it.

This would definitely make sense to me!
I think it would make the more unusual items, (looking at you Senzu beans and Starmans) more widely utilized.
As it stands I don't see many characters knowing enough about them (or their equivalent) to use them.
If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.

Sounds interesting.
However, a lot of consumables can be role played as having the aesthetic look of something the character is more familiar with. So, most of the time, people are not summoning something that they haven't heard of.

I think it's cool and all, but not relevant enough for it to be something official; you can always role-play purchasing items at shops, black markets, or your ordinary RE4 undead arms dealer.

I love the idea - shopping can be a really fun way to break up the more serious scenes, step back and give the character some time to breathe.
The only problem I can see with it is if someone tried to rob the store, succeeded, but did not have enough OM to pay for the items they stole.
That seems like it can be solved by giving them a hard, disapproving look OOCly in that eventually, however.

@Daniel True, but for stuff like Mega Mushrooms there isn't always an equivalent that someone would know of for their canon and instead of having to find a way of it getting to them in their plot, they could just visit one of these shops.
@DP Oh, it definitely wouldn't be the ONLY way or like, the officially endorsed way. Arturia is just thinking of a character with a buddy that happens to be a shop guy and thought it would be cool to allow people to use his shop for their story needs. I for one would love to see the RE4 shopkeep pop up in the Moors.
@Dominator It can just be conveniently out of stock when that happens, since it's just a story thing. =P
Ultimately anyone can really buy stuff from anywhere they want, this would just be something you could use for convenience instead of having to make up a shop along the way. Useful for if you're wandering through the Dunes or something and need an item.

@Dominator & Mark
Technically, even a robbery would be possible. THe shop is purely fluff after all, so as long as they DO PAY the item in their log, how they obtained it, doesn't matter, now does it? Sure, they robbed it from a shop, but at the same time, they paid the price OOC:ly like everyone else, so it would be fine.
That being said, don't expect Mr. Shopkeeper to be a wuss who just lets you take stuff. There'd be resistance. Heavy resistance.

85% of the things obtained by my three characters were non-summoned.
In the words of St. Whirda: "Gettin' things the easy way (summoning) is lame."
