Divine Intervention
#1
Mechanical whirrs and the sound of power being restored, filled the black void. The metal plates of the giant machine began to shift and realign, the dark metal locking together with unerring accuracy. Deep channels in the exterior began to light up with a blue glow, and two large plates at the machines front slid away, revealing a red glow before moving back into proper position. It's white oculus sensors sprang to life, trying to find something, anything to focus on. Ascension felt... Different. More self-aware. Almost...organic. It felt the core of its body sending waves through its body, almost like a heartbeat. It shifted its legs, and tried to start moving forward but found it was not capable of doing so. It's photoreceptors registered something approaching, and it turned its attention to the entity currently striding towards the large machine.

Quote:"My name is Omni..."

It searched its databanks for any mention of this entity. His search turned up no results. The white oculus sensors narrowing slightly. It did not fit the profile of any previously harvested species, or any of the current species alive in the cycle. Ascension felt a desire to learn and archive this encounter, but again, could not bring itself to. This being had probably places parameters on its functionality. An angry hum can from deep within the large machine.

Quote:"This is not the world you know..."

Ascension was sure that there was no documented planet that it wasn't aware of, but listened on anyway, the white orbs that were its eyes, widening and regarding a ball of white energy in the entity's hands, glowing with an amalgamation of colors, similar to that which the humans called a rainbow. The humanoid figure opened his hands and the orb flew into the machine, and it felt a surge of some kind go trough its circuitry, and settle in the core of its being. The feeling lasted for a very short period, before the being finished its speech.

Before the machine could even begin to formulate a reply, it felt it's vision begin to fail, all systems losing power. The machine tried without success to keep them running, but failed. Ascensions legs collapsed from under him, and the white dots that were his eyes went dark.

An angry hum rumbled deep within the chest of the machine, as it picked itself off the ground. Its spinal plates were withdrawn, akin to the hairs of a disgruntled animal. Its white eyes beheld the unfamiliar landscape, registering nothing of importance in the immediate area except a fountain. It was expertly made, by human standards. the smooth stone seemed to be flawless, and the sparkling water glistened in the light. The machine regarded the fountain for another moment, committing it to memory, before turning its body to look for more important features. Its capabilities were severely downgraded, and Ascension felt an emotion, akin to annoyance, well up from within it. How had this...Omni, managed to put these shackles on his functionality?

The Reaper cast its vision across the blank white landscape, looking for more landmarks to follow. It vaguely picked up several small structures in the distance, spaced evenly, it seemed, though its scanners were off and not giving it any type of feedback whatsoever. It suppressed another wave of annoyance. It didn't like the fact that it's systems were not functioning. It could tell that they were still there, but Ascesnsion was unable to access them at this point in time. It began running diagnostics to map out a course of action to begin restoring itself to maximum efficiency. As it did this, it began to move away from the fountain, toward one of the distant structures.

As it restored power to its Mass effect core, the Synthtic began to hover off the ground, the effort of walking not being worth the gain. It's legs folded back against its cylindrical body, allowing for more comfortable movement. It's optics began to focus on the gate as it approached. It seemed to be covered in ice. The machine made calculations to reduce the effect of the cold while maintaining optimal internal temperature. Multiple systems employed antifreeze to the joints and other moving mechanisms of the outer hull. It sensed no life forms around the gates vicinity, although its senses were underperforming. It engaged it's targeting sytems, just in case of a battle. It was almost itching to vent its frustration.

The machine once more suppressed a feeling of astonishment. Emotions were still foreign to it. It felt, more individual, instead of part of a collective. Emotions were something that it had never before had to struggle with. Choosing to file away these thoughts until another time, the Reaper instead focused once more on the structure it was approaching. It was very rudimentary, by the standards of its kind, yet strangely elegant, as if this simplicity hid something more. A thin layer of ice and a dust of snow, accompanied the immediate area surrounding the gate. Unfolding its legs, the Reaper let out a thoughtful hum and inspected the gate. It was rather rudimentary in design, but it emitted a strange type of energy...

Taking a tentative step forward, Ascension felt a strangely familiar sensation, and was gone.
