How's it hanging?
#1
So I thought I'd make this to check in on how everyone's doing and what everyone's thinking. My approach in terms of events for the Omniverse has been traditionally pretty hands-off: I don't like forcing everyone into big events that they may not be interested in, or which may be intimidating to new players. I also like the idea that the Omniverse is a bigger world where there are lots of happenings rather than just a single 'event' going on at a given time. However I know there may be some people who prefer to be given tasks or storylines, something to jump into and give them a 'lead'. So how's it going? Got any requests or opinions to give? I'm talking purely on the side of IC stuff here like events and storylines, not systems or game stuff.

From a personal perspective I'm planning on moving Samus out of Coruscant with Vitruvius, possibly doing some short-term stuff in the Vasty Deeps and then meeting up with Proto Man who I know is planning on something of a bigger storyline tied to the Blight, which is something started by two older members Nyx and Whirda which we've decided to finish rather than just leave it hanging, 'specially as it involved several NPCs and the fate of two verses. On the side of Enel, well ... he's fighting Ganondorf, and we have our own plans to see to fruition.

Are you guys finding yourselves comfortable in your own storylines? Need any assist? Feel free to use this thread as a general brainstorm/swapping of ideas and resources here. We have our "roleplay as any NPC" policy here on the Omniverse, so this could be a place to put out a request for someone to roleplay an NPC for you.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

Aether Saga. Make it happen. Again.

Considering I only got to be in Aether Saga 1.0 and didn't finish, I agree. By and large, I don't like being forced into group storylines or main events, however I think an event now and then that brings people together for one reason or another would be fun. Like Omni decides to throw the Primes for a loop and send some huge ass OP NPC to stomp the yard. Or something along the lines of Soul Caliber story where there's an item villains and heroes would want and race to fight over it and those who don't care just plug along.

Personally though, I'm having a blast. The original concept for Vitruvius was very much akin to a Zelda/Mega Man mash up. He's a robot protecting a kingdom and hunts down the relics of the pre-apocalypse era that are military weapons so they stay out of the hands of humans and then finds out one of the lead scientists who triggered the next big war has awaken from a cryo-pod so he takes the fight to him before he can start up another war. Now, though, I've been leaning toward Vitruvius becoming a war machine and systematically discovering all the sick weapons installed in his body.

Yoshimitsu, I'm gonna have fun with him and making him a character that depends on interaction and fighting people. He's gonna be my "competitive gaming" character.

The sound of metal, I want to be you. I should learn to be a man...like you.

It's your destiny, Greg. Don't deny it.

On a less irritating note, I think 1 or 2 mass storylines a year wouldn't be overkill, and it allows us to do things like: bring together the community, add more lore, add a competitive aspect aside from Fights, create unlikely teams (Ganmus?), etc.

So, not like every other month or so, but on occasion do something big.
#6
Yeah! Like Omniversary 2 could be a huge event. Omni wants a birthday party and all the Primes are invited. There'll be games like pin the tail on the Ganon or bobbing for Metroids or musical Robot Masters.

...

You can try to pin a tail on me. I need a new scrap metal modern art piece.
#8
I enjoy them. Like G-pig said, it gives people an opportunity to rp together where some (like myself) tend to do the opposite. I know there's nothing stopping me from doing it now, but perhaps I've been conditioned that way? But I also appreciate what Omni said about people doing their own thing, and I always hated in the past when I had to cut something short in order to join in on a group thing. But overall, I like 1-2 things a year.

I'm good so far. But long term, Desco should have some plans to help one of the particularly evil characters.

Ganondorf, King Bowser, even Diablo are all good choices. Diablo being something of a mystery since he is hard to get to and nobody known has survived approaching him according to his profile. But Desco is a Demon, and she would gladly and willingly apprentice the greatest Evil around.

I just wanted to +1 all of Ganondorf's points.

On a personal level, I'm cool. Part of me wants to have others to write with, but the more rational side of me realizes I couldn't really keep up with anyone who wants to be active on a less than weekly/twice weekly basis.

Or you should repent your evil ways and join Shang Tsung. He's a pretty nice guy working to make Darkshire a better place.

Evil is what Desco was created for. It is her purpose, it is natural instinct to pursue it as a Demon. She seeks the power to kill God himself. Though Omni would have to do, to get back to her universe to help Big Bro.

But by default Desco is a nice, innocent little girl. When not pursuing things a Final Boss does.

I have always been the sort of roleplayer that needs direction. Any sort of it will do: a prompt others to reply to. And as a general rule, I do not like working by myself. I can do it - if I have to - but it usually never comes out quite the way I want it to. I am all for having a few events that brings everyone together each year, despite all the problems that could arise from it. To be honest, I much prefer interaction than weaving my own web of stories by myself anyways.

As for right now, I plan to keep roleplaying with Dark Link, but I would welcome anyone that wants to jump in as well. After our intro topic is finished we plan on heading to Coruscant and get involved with the Empire Faction. That will go on for quite some time. Outside of that I am always open to ideas and other people tossing their characters in. Likewise having someone roleplay Npcs (whomever they may be) would be just as awesome.

Regarding requests, I can only think of maybe more unique quests. They don't have to be artefact quests per say, but maybe quests designed to up your influence with a particular faction? I like having story prompts and generally knowing what the next step is and every little bit helps.

I made a few of these a couple months back (when I did the other unique quests). Quests/quest chains designed for each main faction.

I believe it's on me to come up with a few more (to cover all the bases) before we consider launching those.

Thank you for the reminder. I will actually go back to what I have/what I need when I'm on the train out of the city this afternoon.

Forget Shung. He's a loser. Diablo too. Losers. All of em.

Join me. Rule everything. Destroy everything.

Or don't. And never live up to your potential.

Also, I'm a Demon King, too. A better one than Diablo, because I'm sexier.
#16
While we're on the subject of quests, I think there should be more of them in general, not just artefact and faction ones. I'm not saying there should be dozens of them, nor should they necessarily deal with trivial matters. But at the same time, it would be nice to have a wider range of quests in terms of length and difficulty and not just super challenging stuff that takes a really long time.

Also, on a personal note, when making new quests, I think priority should be given to places that don't see a lot player activity. One of the pet peeves I had with Chubbs (even though I freely admit I was just as complicit in this behaviour as any other member) was that, aside from maybe Namek, most of the player activity was focused on Earth. Not that there weren't perfectly understandable reasons for this (cost of travel, time and organisational efficiency, lack of reasons to go elsewhere etc.) and it did kind of mirror the show, but it was still a shame that there was this whole universe to explore, yet so many players spent most of their time on a single planet.

Now granted, Omniverse already helps alleviate that problem by having two different and powerful factions and by making travel cost nothing but time.....but it wouldn't hurt to provide some extra encouragement. Again, I'm not saying "don't make any quests for Camelot and Coruscant"...just give people a nudge so that they travel around more.

Just a thought on simple potential artifacts that could work. Not that there are any publicly available artifacts to base these on.

Heart Container - +1 Defense.

Energy Tank - +1 Tech

Power Plus Badge - +1 Att

Ninja Tabi - +1 Speed

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1068

Artefacts are listed there and adding stats is probably a no-no (unless it is in lieu of a special transformation/powerup). Transformations/Power Ups are the only things currently able to do that - aside from spending a crap-ton of OM on a permanent stat boost.
#19
Maybe you misunderstand, I proposed ones which are not 'permanent', they are not intended to change the rules, or I'd have mentioned that as a part of the idea. These would act like other artifacts though probably couldn't be traded after use, and would drop on death. Maybe even make these limit One per person (Since there could be multiples of these). So while you could could possibly capture multiple heart containers the only reason is to store the extras in case you die or sell them. Thus with a full set of these you could have +1 to all stats until death.

It might make things interesting to have small, low impact artifacts floating around for people to kill eachother over.

Actually, the first quest on the list would have the effect of what I listed. Tongue. Though you get to choose what the Tarrasque piece is. So.. yea. Just random thoughts, take them as you like.
#20
Let's try and keep this on-topic in relation to IC events and happenings. We have plenty artefacts in reserve and even new artefact quests ready to go, but I wanna see some of the current artefact quests completed first Wink
