Weiss vs Sans (The Battle of the Underground)
#1
I'm waking up...
to ash and dust...
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust...
This is it... the apocalypse...wo-oah.

The skeleton loved that song. Its techno beats and energetic singing could turn anyone's day into one where all you wanted to do was just tilt your head to the sky and say “bring it on!”

Too bad the message itself was just wishful thinking. Everything else about it was pretty accurate, though.

The skeleton stood within the darkness of the alabaster pillars, leaning against one as he placed his hands within the pockets of his black shorts. He was facing the entrance to the pristine hall, the warm glow of the early afternoon shining through the windows on his right. He wrapped his bony fingers around the crimson fabric he had placed inside his pockets hours earlier, his hands shaking and his smile quivering. Even after all those years.... those years of waiting... of hoping. Hoping to whatever God was left that they would stop. That they would leave him and his friends alone.

But They never listened. They never listen. If They did, everyone would still be alive, there wouldn’t be any evacuation and Papyrus wouldn't be...

no.. he thought, closing his eyes, no, don't think about it. it was out of your control. focus.

It took every ounce of his self-control to keep himself from crying. He had been following the human ever since she existed the ruins. She never left his sight for a single moment... and he wished they had. Countless monsters slaughtered by her hand, dust filling the air and coating her blade. Everyone else that had tried to stop her had failed, among those being Undyne, whom had tapped into her reserve of determination just to take her down. All that power would have made any scientist or military enthusiast blush and the human took her down like she was nothing. Mettaton didn't even bother trying to kill her, instead deciding to stand there and buy time for everyone else.

If by “everyone else” he meant Sans and Asgore... well, he succeeded. He bought them a total of one minute to list off their regrets and say their prayers before they met their doom.

He probably should've been running away like that little flower had. The flower had been crying its eyes out, begging him to save it from the human following it. At first, the plant held a twinge of familiarity to it that the skeleton couldn't exactly pinpoint, only worsened by the fact that, despite him never seeing the plant before, it knew him by first name basis. Before he even had a chance to respond, the flower had dashed off into the king's room, presumably to warn the king.

The blue-hooded undead looked back towards the hallway to the throne room, the glow from the windows illuminating it in a holy, enticing light.

He turned away as footsteps echoed around the hall. here she comes...

She was looking a little worse for wear than she was when she first exited the ruins, though Sans doubted it meant anything. The human was tall, definitely about five feet to the skeletal monster's four. She wore some kind of snow-white dress with a large skirt that didn't even reach down to her knees, leaving her legs bare for all to see. Her hair was similarly white albeit tattered and unkempt in various places. Her clothes had several scratch marks on them but aside from that, they held little else to be suspicious about. Her face and the rapier in her hands, however, was what tipped the skeleton off that it was her. She was silent, and her looks were so monotone and expressionless she might as well have been wearing a mask, and the sword in her hand was dripping silver dust.

The human wandered forward, her hand tightly gripped around the hilt of her blade. She was looking away from the pillars, her eyes affixed to the hallway past Sans like a soldier with the thousand-yard stare. She kept moving, passing by the columns around her at a quick pace, swiftly reaching the column the skeleton stood near. As soon as she did, he spoke.

“heya.”

The swordswoman stopped, her head tilting towards the sound of his goofy voice. She saw his glowing eyes staring at her from the shadow of the marble pillar. She said nothing as he walked out from the darkness and into the sunlight.

“you've been busy, huh?” He said, his smile unwavering. He continued speaking, barely caring about the fact that the woman drew closer with each sentence he finished.

“so, i've got a question for ya.”

step

“do you think even the worst people can change...?”

step

“that everyone can be a good person, if they just try?”

step

“hehehehe... alright.. well, here's a better question.”

step

“do you wanna have a bad time?”

The lady was not but ten more steps away from him when she halted, clearly surprised by the question he had asked. His glowing pupils had disappeared, replaced by a black void within his eye sockets.

“cause, lady.. if you take one more step forward... you are REALLY not gonna like what happens next.”

...

step

“welp. sorry, old lady. this is why i never make promises.”

The skeleton sighed, his hands rising from his pockets and up to his hood. He pulled it over his head, covering his eyes from sight. He saw a whoosh of motion as a small blue jay flew through one of the windows, landing on his shoulder. He could feel gamma energy pulsing through his bones, blue smoke steadily rising from his fingertips as he moved them behind his back.

“it's a beautiful day outside...”

Intro post complete! Round 1 goes to Miss Weiss!
#2
Weiss stepped forward slowly, painfully aware of what she had to do.
“Don’t stop now. You’re so close…” that same, strange voice rang in… Weiss’s head. It was harder for her to remember her name, as time went on. She didn’t know if that was due to whatever spirit floated above her head, or simply a consequence of murdering so many monsters.
Monsters, she called them… she had no room to judge.

“Just a little farther, and they’ll come back.” that same voice rang, and Weiss’s glare narrowed.
That was right. Their lives for her team’s. That was the deal she’d made, the reason she’d been slaughtering innocent lives this long. Thousands of lives for three.

Weiss knew she was nothing but selfish, but… at this point, she didn’t care. If killing this wisecracking skeleton was all she needed to do, she wouldn’t hesitate.

With that thought, Weiss dashed forward, aiming to end the wisecracker in one strike. With the amount of LoVe she’d managed to accumulate, combined with the speed she’d already honed in countless battles, there was no doubt in the killer’s mind that this battle would be over in a single blow.

Weiss’s body turned into a blur of motion as she moved, her body becoming a human bullet as she moved ten feet in a tenth of a second.
Her rapier struck like a bullet, poised and trained on the skeleton’s infuriatingly calm head. At least he’d die quickly.

“...On days like these, girls like you…
s h o u l d b e b u r n i n g i n h e l l”

Weiss’s eyes widened in shock, not because of the fact her blade had just tasted nothing but air, or because of the skeleton’s words.
The portly revenant was speaking from behind her.
Weiss turned around just in time for an onslaught of bones to slide through the ground and ihit her square in the chin, knocking the heiress half off her feet.. A volley of bones streaked towards Weiss a split-second later, and she barely managed to cartwheel out of the way. Myrtenaster spun as Weiss charged forward, trying her best to retaliate with a wide horizontal slash.

The attack hit air, and Weiss turned by instinct to find the skeleton staring her right in the eyes, the menacing skull of some nightmarish horror glaring from behind him as his eye rapidly flashed from blue to yellow. Weiss threw herself to the side just half a second before a beam of vibrant ivory baked the area she had just stood. a second pair of canine skulls materialized in the same direction Weiss rolled, and the huntress barely managed to jump out of the way of the second pair of beams. The panicked woman surveyed the ground below for Sans, only for a sudden impact to the back of her skull to arrest her momentum, causing her to fall as she twisted in the air, trying to see what she’d managed to strike her skull on….

The canine face of a gaster blaster stared back, and Weiss threw up her hands defensively as a pair of energy beams baked her from above and below.
“...You get the feeling you’re going to have a bad time.”

Weiss fell to the ground, smoke steaming from her ruined jacket. Wasting no time, she immediately stood back up, scanning the area for her surprisingly powerful opponent.

His grinning face wasn’t hard to find, and Weiss didn’t hesitate, dashing forward and barraging him with a flurry of lunges, thrusts, and slashes even as he neatly sidestepped each and every attack, his hands still hanging in his pockets.

Just one hit. I need just one hit. Weiss thought frustratingly, her blade missing by inches each time. Another set of bones smashed into her from behind, And Weiss pushed her weight into her heels to stop from falling. Sans just stood in front of her, giving her that same smile, and Weiss sprang forward in kind, ignoring the ache in her muscles.
But Weiss was already starting to figure out his movements, and the skeleton’s cockiness had left him sitting firmly in her range, as she relentlessly struck, forcing him to dodge backwards, towards one of the golden pillars of the hall of judgement, with a series of quick stabs, before guiding him just a bit to the right with a carefully placed slash.
A chilling smile graced Weiss’s features as she sent a swift kick from his left, pinning him against the pillar. He couldn’t get away from this close.
Only… her leg ended up smacking against the pillar, instead.
Weiss had been lead into a trap the whole time, she realized. The whine of the Gaster blasters behind her confirmed that suspicion.

okay… thought Sans, bit of a gamble, but…

He snapped his fingers, chuckling as the mechanical roar of his blasters reverberated around the room, a pained scream echoing from behind the pillar.

worth it.

He leaned against that same golden pillar, hands still in his pockets as he listened for the human. As he predicted, she was attempting to stand up after the sudden blaster bombardment, her hands clawing up the column, scratching it with her nails as she tried to maintain a good grip on it. Instead of pounding her more, however, he took the short lull in combat to rest, the blue gas from his fingertips slowly dissipating into the afternoon atmosphere.

He took a deep breath, his blue hood slipping off his head as he shivered, still reeling from the touch-and-go maneuver. He was glad it worked, but he didn’t want to think about what would’ve happened if the lady had landed the hit he had so carelessly walked into.

What was worse, however, was what that meant. Even with how fast he was moving and how relentless his attacks were, the lady had STILL managed to close the distance and almost slice his head off. It was obvious to both of them that, regardless of how many times he ran, at some point, he would slip or panic or just run out of luck, and that would be it. It would be over, and he would have failed everyone whom had died trying to stop the crazy psychopath. He would’ve failed his coworkers and all of his friends. He would’ve failed his little brother...

Which meant he had to defeat her through other means.

He glanced over to the other side of the pillar, seeing the girl finally getting back up, her legs wobbly and her grip on her weapon loose. He kept his cheeky smile planted on his face as he walked towards the girl. He placed his arm against the pilaster, locking eyes with the murderous woman.

“our reports showed a massive anomaly in the timespace continuum,” he said, sounding unnaturally casual even as he relayed all the secrets he had kept hidden for years, “timelines jumping left and right, stopping and starting…”

The girl lifted her sword up, glaring at him as she slammed it down. He nonchalantly dodged, slipping back to the other side of the pillar as the rapier clanged against the stone he had stood on. The lady was just about to move when a femur bone jettisoned out from the surface of the column, impacting her cheek. She fell onto her side, feeling a slight sting in her jaw as she looked up towards the undead monster strolling out from the shadows, speaking with the same carefree tone.

“when suddenly… everything ends…” he said, eyes closed.

Like before, the heiress didn’t bother listening to his words. She swiftly got up, bolting towards him while his eyes were closed. Her grip remained tight on the hilt of her sword as she unleashed a wild deluge of sword strikes, her malevolent smile morphing into a look of dissatisfaction as he casually dodged each attempt on his life. Eventually, she slashed her blade across his coat, nicking off a bit of fabric. The skeleton’s smile quivered as her smirk returned, thrusting her rapier forward with a loud cry, only to find she had pierced it straight through a wall of bone.

She desperately tried to pull her blade out of the bone wall, hearing chuckles from behind it as cracks formed around the area she had stabbed through. As she started to pull it out, parts of the wall fell away, revealing two black voids where Sans’ eyes should’ve been.

“that’s your fault, isn’t it?” He said, his tone accusatory.

A look of shock appeared on Weiss’ face as the comedian motioned his hand downwards, the bone wall sliding into the ground at a breakneck speed; her sword was brought down with the wall, deflecting off the ground. The sudden movement caused her to stumble forward into the waiting jaws of a large canine skull.

She screamed as she was blasted onto her back, her bosom burning and her clothes smoking. She heard another whine of a charging blaster, rolling out of the way as the colorless beam smashed into the ground where she had been, leaving only an ashened crater.

“you can’t understand how this feels.”

She pushed herself back onto her feet, holding her chest as she peered towards the skeleton a short run away. Despite his smile, she noticed a hint of melancholy in his eyes.

“knowing that one day… without any warning, it’s all gonna be reset,” he said forlornly, staring straight at her.

Reset? What is he talking about? she thought, raising her sword for another attack.

Round 1 Post complete! Next up, Weiss!
#4
Weiss dashed forward, hoping to end this with one quick slash, even as his reset comment processed in her head. Did he mean the SAVE function Chara had shown her? That had to be it, right?
The question was... how did he know about it?

"To be blunt, it makes it kind of hard for me to give it my all..." Sans continued, a trio of bones missing the genocidal huntress by mere inches as she bobbed and weaved towards the Short fighter.
You don't know how this feels, either.

"...Or is that just a poor excuse for being lazy?"

Knowing you've killed so many people, all for your own desires, your own friends…

Weiss closed in on Sans with a swift lunge, and the skeleton was forced to duck, dive, weave and jump away from a barrage of slashes and stabs. Weiss didn't bother to aim for vital areas anymore - all she wanted to do was hit him, somewhere, just once

Because you owe them that much, because you're willing to trade away everything you are for them.
A tear stung Weiss's face, as her smile broke, even as she lunged for Sans's retreating form. she felt the nearly weightless feeling of her blade striking cotton as a tiny hole was in the Skeleton's sweating T-shirt.
Only to be bowled over by another gaster blaster from behind, knocking her off her feet and onto her knees.

Weiss struggled to catch Myrtenaster, the weapon slipping from her hand as she tripped, Catching the weapon in a swift roll back onto her feet. Sans took the opportunity to fling another barrage of bones at the injured warrior, and the Ivory-haired woman's brow furrowed in concentration as she carefully parried each bone away with her rapier.

...Or is that just a poor excuse to be completely selfish?

"Hell if I know"
Hell if I know

Weiss thumbed Myrtenaster's chamber controls, and the familiar sound so akin to bicycle spokes whirred even as she dodged to the right, the white beams missing her by inches.
Weiss took a deep breath. Sans was fighting hard - so hard - for his life, for his race, for his own family... and here she was, ready to take that all away...
Weiss gripped her blade tighter.
No, she'd already taken that away. she'd already done so much that couldn't be taken back.

"All I know is, seeing what comes next..."
all I know is, after I've come so far…

Weiss ran forward once again, as Sans ducked to the right to avoid the expected slash.
It never came, as a red haze covered the blade.

"I can't afford not to care anymore."

I won’t let this all be for nothing.

Weiss struck out with a fast kick to Sans midsection, and the skeleton skipped back just as swiftly. Lunging forward off her back foot, the murderous huntress’s heels tapped against the ground like a machine gun, as she pushed her opponent to the back of the hall, pushing the skeleton to the corner of the room with a wall of steel.

Weiss realized that now, the same enemy that had once smoothly dodged past every slash without missing a beat, with minimal effort, was now being forced to sweat as he was pushed back, giving Weiss control of the skirmish.
Weiss continued her attack, pushing and pushing, until Sans was knocked towards the corner of the hall. Weiss noticed his eyes shift ever so slightly to the right, and pushed her body to it’s limit as she lunged forward with blinding speed, the scarlet blade just missing Sans as his grinning face passed right by her shoulder.

Weiss grinned, as her foot shifted, and her thrust was coupled with an attack to her right - aimed, not at the swiftly retreating skeleton, but at the pillar he’d been standing ever so close to, and as Weiss’s blade struck the offending pillar, the world exploded around the two, as gold-painted rock and dust showered the pair in a yellow cloud.

Weiss winced as she felt the backblast of her own attack hit her, shards of rock cutting her cheek, but the move had hopefully caught her opponent off-guard.

Weiss grinned with a new energy, feeling a sudden smile creep on her face as something unfamiliar filled her. Was she starting to find this… fun?
Quickly surveying the room as the dust cleared, Weiss managed to spy her slippery opponent.
It was a new achievement for the Alabaster warrior. She’d never seen a skeleton run out of breath before.

The undead comedian swept his skeletal hand up to his forehead, wiping away the sweat that had formed. He remained hunched over in the middle of the long, golden hallway, his breathing hoarse. His entire body felt like he had waded through jelly for hours on end as his hands touched the ground, golden glitter dancing through the air as they floated to the ground. He coughed, the particles filling his metaphorical lungs as he softly fell onto his front and rolled onto his back.

He set the back of his skull on the ground, every bone in his body aching. He sensed footsteps echo from his side; the marching of an oncoming giant stomping through the land it claimed as its own. He did not bother trying to lift his head off of the ground, for even that tiny bit of effort would have been a waste.

He remained still and silent as the woman walked towards his prone form, her heels clicking against the stone ground as she drew closer. She pointed her rapier at his smiling cranium, her blade glinting in the sunlight as she stood over the revenant, breathing lightly.

“ugh… that being said…” the skeleton said, keeping his casual smile planted on his face even as the woman bore the sword closer to his face, “you really like swinging that thing around, huh?”

The portly comedian laughed. He laughed like he had just uttered the world’s best joke, confusing his would-be killer. Eventually, his laughter drew to a close, becoming nothing more than a half-hearted chuckle before ceasing entirely. He closed his eyes, as if waiting for death.

The girl grinned, satisfied with this turn of events. She brought up her rapier, starting to stab it down towards his head.

“listen…” he said, opening his eyes. The heiress’ sword stopped short of his skull, as if some magical force had froze it to the spot. The two locked eyes, the skeleton briefly looking towards her cheek, still wet from the tear she had shed. She noticed that whatever sense of goofiness he had in them had disappeared in a single blink; it was now nothing more than a pair of glowing globes peering out of a black void.

“i know you didn’t answer me before, but…” he croaked, “somewhere in there… i can feel it...there’s a glimmer of a good person inside you.”

The woman raised her eyebrow, a look of confusion on her face as he continued.

“the memory of someone who once wanted to do the right thing. someone who, in another time, might have even been.... a friend?”

That last word struck her like a bullet to the heart. She stepped back, allowing Sans to stand up. He continued speaking, slowly walking towards her even as she moved away from him. He no longer sounded like the boastful combatant he had been moments before. Instead, he was pleading, with hands outstretched and in a motion for a hug, and he still had the goofy smile on his face despite literally pouring his heart out.

“c’mon, buddy, do you remember me? please, if you’re listening… let’s forget all of this, ok? just… lay down your weapon, and... “ he said, tenderly reaching for her blade as they both stopped moving, “well, my job will be a lot easier.”

The comedian kept staring directly into the woman’s eyes, as if piercing her very soul. The white-clothed girl stood in silence, her face showcasing a wide display of emotions. At first, her eyebrows were raised, completely flabbergasted. Then, he saw her face soften, her smile deforming. Then, tears started to form in her eyes and stream down her face, and he swore he heard her whimper at least once. His hand shook as it inched closer and closer to his opponent’s blade. What he was doing to her… he almost felt bad for her. Almost.

His glowing pupils glanced down towards her hand as they tightened around the hilt of her weapon, her knuckles white and her hand clenching and unclenching almost by instinct. He lowered his head, closing his eyes for a single moment before looking back up at her, silently begging. His smile seemed to go away for a split second as he sighed.

He lept backwards, barely avoiding the blade as it sliced through the air where his head had been. He landed on his feet, planting his hands inside his pockets as two large, canine skulls appeared behind him. The lady stood, rooted to her spot and her hands shaking.

“welp… it was worth a shot. Guess you like doing things the hard way, huh?”

Don’t listen to him… the voice in her head said as the skulls began to glow, energy forming within their mouths.

Are you…

trying to make me do the right thing?

Weiss felt her hands move with a determination her mind didn’t feel right now, her hand making a motion as though she was pointing accusingly at Sans, even as his gaster blasters appeared. A  red dot of light appeared on the tip of Weiss’s finger, glistening like a miniature star, and Sans cocked his head curiously as the familiar sound of the gaster blasters mixed with the faint rumble of Weiss’s cero, red and white power colliding in an explosion of rock and dust.

A yellow glow manifested through the cloud of debris, the crater in the middle of the judgement hall readily apparent.
Doing the right thing got my friends killed.
It was soon accompanied by another red one, as a second cero lanced out towards the same spot Sans was once standing, the stronger blast smashing the wall behind her pint-sized opponent.
Doing the right thing left me lonely and bleeding.

The dust warped and trailed after the red blast, throwing away the obscuring cloud of debris to Reveal a masked huntress, a white mask of bone and teeth covering most of Weiss’s face.
The yellow eyes and black Sclera were quite apparent.

So why…

The hollowfied huntress looked around with a subtle scan of her eyes, and noticed the glimmering of a blue and yellow eye, farther away. The skeleton held up his hand to throw something at his opponent, but Weiss wasn’t about to let her opponent past that easily.
Weiss simply appeared in front of Sans, slashing for the revenant’s chest, and she heard the rip of fabric as blue cloth hit the ground.
Sans looked at her with a mix of surprise and shock in his face, and Weiss couldn’t help but growl behind her mask, her eyes fixed on Sans like the face of a predator.

Say something, then! Give me some cute quip-

...Sounds strange, but before all of this, I was secretly hoping we could be friends.”

...What are you doing?

I always thought the anomaly was doing this cause they were unhappy.

Weiss exhaled in surprise, the sound of her voice warped by the mask, before she held up her hand in response, the next cero dodged easily by the skeleton.

It’s not… I don’t…

Finish him! He’s tired! Go!” Chara’s voice rang in Weiss’s head.

And when they got what they wanted, they would stop all this.

“It’s… not that simple.” Weiss muttered to herself quietly, too low for Sans to hear, as she charged forward, desperately attacking. The air warped around the pressure of her strikes, each attack creating a blur of motion, but now, her enemy was dodging every strike easily. It felt like she was a cat chasing a laser pointer.

And maybe all they needed was… I dunno. Some good food. Some bad laughs. Some nice friends?

“...Stop it!” Weiss growled, dashing after the skeleton, only to find herself running into a beam of white magic, the blaster singeing her shoulders
But that’s ridiculous, right?

Sans danced away with a squeak, his slippers sweeping the floor, and Weiss slashed out with myrtenaster, a flurry of ice shards following him. Sans dodged each one slowly, like he knew they were coming.

I don’t need you judging me! You don’t know why I’m doing this! You don’t…
You do. I’ve done it to you.
Weiss blinked harshly as her head began to ache, and a trio of bones smacked against her head, nearly knocking her off her feet and causing her to respond with a cero that went wide of her target.

I can’t do it. I can’t say goodbye to them. I have to save them..

After all, you’re the type of person who won’t ever be happy.

The revenant’s eye flashed on the last syllable, as he winged Weiss’s shoulder with a slider from behind. She responded with a dash followed by a flurry, dozens of mortal blows thrown from every angle and direction in a second. Weiss felt the skeleton’s shirt rip, and yet, his confidence…

So… please… stop fighting… and just… let me WIN!

Weiss couldn’t help but cry out, the mask layering her voice into an unearthly wail as she held up her palm, a blast of red energy just barely missing her opponent. Weiss kept firing, each blast either met by a gaster blaster or dodged, before she realized with some frustration that she wasn’t even leading her target, the judgement hall dotted with explosions.

Weiss Took a frustrated breath, her hands balled up into fists, her shifted eyes wide. The sound of cracking ice accompanied the feeling of the air on her face, as part of her mask fell to the ground, revealing the tears hidden beneath.

The skeleton planted his hand on his torso, sighing as his fingers touched his relatively intact ribs. What wasn’t was his turtleneck, which was sliced from shoulder to hip. Just looking at the cut made his metaphorical stomach churn.

If she had been a little faster…

No. He couldn’t think about it. He had to keep going, keep fighting, for everything the crazy woman hadn’t taken away from him.

The hallway, once golden, extravagant, and filled with beauty, was now nothing but a shell of its former glory. Pillars were strewn everywhere, most in small pieces, and the few left standing were cracked and filled with holes. The ground was peppered with craters, the largest being in the middle where the combatants stood on opposite ends, the consequences of their destruction surrounding them.

This notion confused the scientist. She could have undone the whole thing if she wanted to. At the push of a button, everything would go back to the beginning, and he wouldn’t remember it. She was a god, and could do anything she wanted without regrets.

So why was she crying?

Her mask had been damaged in the relentless bombardment of magic she had unleashed, revealing her tear-filled eyes. She didn’t look like a murderer. She just looked… broken.

A small part of him felt pity for her, but he knew it was necessary. And besides, he felt… kinda glad, almost satisfied. It was refreshing to know he still had control over something in his life.

But he knew he couldn’t keep going for long. Everything was aching, and his forehead was pouring down more sweat than a waterfall. He had to end the fight. Fast.

If he couldn’t… he would have to use his special attack.

The demonic lady flinched; that’s when he realized he spoke aloud. He chuckled, speaking some more.

“that’s right. my special attack. sound familiar? well, get ready, cuz after this next move, i’m gonna use it. so… if you don’t want to see it…”

He snapped his fingers, nightmarish skulls forming behind him.

“Now would be a good time to DIE.”

The lady growled, a red orb appearing in her hand as the monochrome energy beams of his blasters blasted into her. She flew back, her clothes almost completely burnt as she shot the red column towards her enemy. He sprinted to his right, leaping towards the floor as the charged energy column smashed into the pillar next to him. The pillar tipped, falling towards Sans. His eyes turned pinprick sized as the shadow of the support covered his form.

It crashed with a thunderous rupture, dust filling the air.

The lady started to go onto her knees, the adrenaline slowly fading. It was finally over….

“well…”

She looked up, incredulous. She begged for it to be fake. That she was hearing things.

“here goes nothing… ready? survive THIS..”

Bones appeared everywhere, aimed at her and poised to end the fight with one stroke...

“and I’ll show you my special attack.”

------------------------------

Weiss leaped into the air, dodging the five bones as they pierced the ground. She parted the cloud of dust around her, sailing up to the roof of the hall. She looked around, trying to find her enemy whom had eluded certain death seconds earlier.

She saw him at the other end of the hall at the entrance to the throne room. Two blasters were at his side, and he was standing on top of a fallen pillar, with several more providing obstacles to her path.
Touching down on the ground, she held onto her rapier, racing towards the skeleton as he threw literally everything he had at her. Bones shot out from everywhere, from above, from the ground, from her side, and behind. The two gaster blasters at his side shot a constant stream of explosive beams, the room filling up with their inane mechanical whirring.

Yet no matter what he did, she kept going. For every bone that impaled her, she parried five more. For every laser that singed her, she responded by running faster. It wasn’t even Determination that kept her going. It was something else... something he couldn’t describe in words as she rapidly closed the distance between them, a smile contrasting the tears in her eyes.

The skeleton’s hand twitched as she drew closer, his blasters missing more and more and his bones becoming more erratic.

She leaped into the air, raising her sword. She was so focused on her opponent that she did not notice her body had turned blue, his hand was raised, and he was glaring at her, genuinely glaring at her, in the most enraged manner possible.

The white-clothed warrior sailed through the air, her rapier poised to kill. Alabaster colored laser beams shot all around her, forming a massive ring with her in the middle. The skeleton stood on top of the toppled pillar, his fists clenched and his eyes closed, his head lowered and in total silence. As she closed in on him, she lifted her sword upwards, ready to end his life with one, swift, steady, swipe.

Just as she got within striking distance, however, he lifted his head up, his left eye flashing from orange to light blue in the most rapid, furious manner possible. He then shot his hand up, and before she could even flinch, she flew towards the ceiling.

Her body slammed into the roof with a resounding boom, cracking from the impact. Before she could register the pain, Sans threw his hand down, sending her plummeting into the ground. Another crater formed right where she landed, one shaped like a human, as a layer of golden dust formed around her.

It didn’t take much longer for her to let out a cry, her torso sending out huge spikes of pain throughout her body. The sudden telekinetic blow had definitely broken some of her ribs, evident by the blood she was coughing out. She lifted her face from the ground, her nose broken and her vision dizzy as she tried to see through the yellow mist. She glanced towards the broken pillar her adversary stood on, seeing her rapier just within arm’s reach. She stretched her fingertips, brushing the hilt.

She dropped it once more as Sans lifted her into the air.

What followed soon afterward would be best described as nothing more than a complete beatdown as the skeletal comedian tossed her in every single direction possible, his eyes flaring different colors. He made no attempt to contain himself or to control where she flew. All that mattered was that he was hurting her, and hurting her bad. He found it almost… enjoyable; after all, when else would he be able to get away with obliterating the one person who just wouldn’t leave him and his friends alone? Weiss could do nothing except allow herself to be torn apart in this fashion; she smashed into every surface in the once pristine hall, colliding into walls, windows, pillars, the ceiling and the floor. She screamed out in pure agony as he continue; it was impossible for her to tell what was going on anymore; all she knew was that her fate was entirely in the hands of her opponent, and he was showing NO signs of relenting.

Finally, after what felt like forever, .the onslaught began to slow. The comedian continued shooting his hand as fast as he could to continue his assault, though the speed of the force-controlled human was far slower than the speed of his hand. The skeleton panted, his hand clawing the air as he forced the human to the ground. He repeated this motion multiple times, each one slower than the one before and with each movement of his more exaggerated.

Then, just when it seemed like he could go on no longer, he raised his palm again. Weiss levitated to the ceiling, the blue color on her skin flickering with each passing moment. As soon as her head touched the roof, it dissipated, followed by her plunging back down to the earth. She crashed with a loud thud, motionless.

He let his hand drop down to his side, every bone in his body going limp as he slid off the column. He felt wobbly, his energy shot. He dropped to a knee, trying his best to remain standing as he looked towards his opponent. She was not moving. Had he done it? Did it actually work? Had he beaten her?

It took only one movement to dash his hopes completely. His heart sank lower and lower as he saw her push herself back up, coughing up blood and stumbling the whole way. How? How was she still alive?! After all he threw at her, after pretty much breaking every bone in her body, she just kept going? What was wrong with her?! Why did she keep going?! WHY COULDN’T SHE JUST DIE?!

He wanted to scream, but the most he let out was a dull whisper. He fought the urge to release tears from his eye sockets as he leaned back against the pillar, never stopping to take some deep breathes. What was he going to do? He couldn’t beat her through fighting her, he couldn’t beat her through words. How was he going to win? He had used up all of his options!

That’s when he saw her reach for her sword, her fingers beginning to grasp it. An idea struck his mind. It was crazy; it was insane. There was no way it was going to work, but he had to try.

He pointed a finger at the weapon, his whole arm wobbling as he enveloped the sword in a dark-blue shade of color. He then slid it towards him, with it crashing close by to him; how much energy had he put into just tossing her around? He let out a gulp as he glared at her, his eye sockets black as night.

“alright… that’s it….” he said, taking a moment to breathe, his body feeling like someone had dumped massive weights on him, “it’s time for my special attack. you ready? here goes nothing!”

Weiss’s heart skipped a beat as the monster hauled up his palm once more. She stared at him, wide-eyed; whatever he had left, she could not dodge.

Then he laughed. He laughed for a long time. He had pulled the biggest joke in the book! He was laughing so hard because it was so funny. And the look on her face! It was priceless! It was so worth doing it just to see that expression. His laughs were replaced by coughs as he ran out of breath, though it didn’t make the situation any less funny. He continued giggling as he explained his little joke to the confused woman.

“that’s right!” he said, “it’s literally nothing! and it’s never gonna BE anything, either.”

She continued to look at him, her eyebrows raised. What was he going on about? Did he think she couldn’t hurt him because he wasn’t attacking? What?

He continued on. “ya get it? i know i can’t beat you. one of these turns…” he said, “you’re just gonna KILL me. so... i've decided... it's never gonna BE your turn. ever. i'm just gonna keep having MY turn until you give up, even if it means we have to stand here until the end of time, capiche?”

He stabbed his bony finger at her, his clothes and body covered in the perspiration of battle. He had tried his best to make it sound like he was positive that he was right. That there was some magic rule that governed all fights that she couldn’t attack during his turn. There had to be one like that, right? There just HAD to be!

“you’ll get bored here… if you haven’t gotten bored already, i mean..” he said after a few moments of silence, “and then, you’ll finally quit.”

What was once a massive battle between two desperate fighters had become just a staring contest. Neither moved an inch, so tense was this competition of eye-locking. His entire body felt like it was going to collapse right on him, and he had never, ever, EVER, hyperventilated this hard at any point in his life. He felt his eyes droop, but he kept them open to keep talking.

“I know your type..” he said, almost looking like he was frowning to Schnee, “you’re, uh, very determined, aren’t you?”

Nothing. Not even a peep. What was with humans and being quiet all the time?

“you’ll never give up,  even if there’s, uh… absolutely NO benefit to persevering whatsoever, if i can make that clear. no matter what, you’ll just keep going. not out of any desire for good or evil… but just because you can. And because you CAN, you HAVE TO…”

Yeah… she had to do all of this, didn’t she? She HAD TO come in and ruin everything? She had to kill everyone he loved? She had to cause an evacuation and break apart the already unstable peace in the Underground? She HAD TO kill his little brother?! The one monster who would never have hurt her even if she had decided to ‘do away’ with his older bro? The one being who would have loved her unconditionally? The one person who might have been her friend?!

“but it’s over now… you’ve reached the end, pal. there ain’t nothing left for you,” he said, bringing a clenched fist to his jaws as he yawned, “so, uh, in my personal opinion? the most ‘determined’ thing you can do is, uh… literally anything else..”

He placed his hands in his pockets, having said all that he could say. His opponent looked exactly like the emotionless, monotone mask that she had arrived as. His words had not struck true, it seemed. Whatever. It didn’t matter. As long as he did not attack her, she could not hurt him. She was never leaving. Never. Not while he was still awake.

Speaking of which, even though his eyelids were a bit droopy, he was still perfectly fine and dandy. He could only remember reading Papyrus a bedtime story. Something about a fluffy bunny; what was it called? A bed was looking mighty fine right about now, though. He wasn’t tired; he had just been working a lot that day and needed to sit down for a moment, you know? Sure, his brother picked on him a lot for not working out and doing his chores, but he knew that he meant no harm by it. He was just concerned for his well-being, is all. Oh please, Papyrus, I’ll be fine. Honestly, I worry more about you than anyone-

He snapped awake as the sound high-heels rapping against a floor filled his earholes. He dodged to the side, the woman’s sword just nicking the top of his skull. He turned around to glance at the woman. Her head was hanging low, her sword-hand’s knuckles as white as ash. She had missed him, again. While he was sleeping; he couldn’t believe his luck!

The urge to gloat was too much. “heh… did you really think th-”

A memory shot through his brain; the image of bones breaking. Startled, he sat down on the ground.

He looked up to the crazy human, seeing her blade had sailed over him yet again. She was really bad at this, wasn’t she? She couldn’t hit a target if it was standing still and sleeping! And it was! Though he did notice something new about her.

Her blade was coated in red.

No...

He slowly, so as not to waste too much energy, looked down to his lower form.

From his left shoulder to his right hip, in a diagonal fashion, was a huge gash, gushing out gooey, sticky, red blood. He… she hit him.

He had been wrong, and she had done him in with one hit. He didn’t know why he was surprised; after all, it wasn’t like it was going to matter what he did anyway, right? But, after all he had done, after fighting so hard, quite literally driving himself to the point of exhaustion… to fail once again. That knowledge hurt more than any wound could have, the fact he had failed. He had lost, and everything that was going to happen was going to be all his fault. Any of his fellow monsters who had lived through her genocide were now going to die because of him. And they were never going to come back.

He glanced from his wound to the woman, who was staring right at him. He felt tears welling up in his sockets, which he held off for just a little bit longer as he clasped his hand to his wound, holding his blood in as he stood back up.

“so… guess this is it, huh? just.. don’t say i didn’t warn ya..” he whispered.

Everything was silent as he smiled, chuckling a bit. Snow began to fall from the sky, covering everything around him. He thought he saw snow particles floating off of him, but it was probably just his imagination. What was important was that one moment he was in the hall, and the next, in a single blink, he was back home, just about to exit his house. It was snowing, like always, though the perpetual white had been replaced by the sight of red and green: Christmas decorations! It was his little bro’s favorite holiday.

“welp… i’m going to grillby’s!” he said, making sure his little brother could hear him. He stumbled out the door, his torso feeling rather weird and weightless. He was also going slower than he remembered. His brother was likely gonna get on his buttocks for it; tell him he needed to exercise more.

His eyes widened a bit; he had forgotten about his bro!

His little brother… the light in the dark… the one thing that he could rely on to keep him going… was he still there? He couldn’t remember. Was anyone still around? He had to check.

He turned back to look through the door, tears forming in his eyes as he spoke. His body began to shift to the left, even though he wasn’t even moving.

"papyrus... you want anything?" he managed to croak out, unable to stop himself from shedding a few tears.

No sooner did he say that than the top half of his body slipped off from his bottom, landing on the ground with a thud. The lights in his eyes dimmed, replaced with black sockets as his form began to fade into dust.
