Summer Syntech Event Polling
#21
I vote for my fusion of Option D and A. No love for the Greg idea Alex? :'(

Might as well post it here:

Omni Wrote:You know my distaste for reality TV stuff. But thinking over some of my qualms, I had an idea for a show that solved those IC problems somewhat.

Think of it as a 'hidden camera' TV show. They think they're on a transport to help with the establishment of a new verse, but really ... they're being taken to the set of Syntech's new show, BATTLEREAPERWHATEVERS!

Taking hints from your survival horror format, and also some from Square Enix's The World Ends With You, this game differentiates from others. Characters who want to volunteer are given an option to sign up in advance for what Syntech promises will be an exciting opportunity. Much like that crazy bitch in Battle Royale, they become 'reapers' whose objective is to hunt down and kill other players. They can work with other reapers or betray them - a head is a head.

The kidnapped players simply have to survive. Unlike the reapers, they're given no weapons and they may have power blockers. They have to salvage what they can from the scenery to survive. Perhaps an abandoned town, similar to the setup of Silent Hill or the overgrown suburbs of The Last of Us. They don't get points from killing other players, but they can should they want to steal weapons or get revenge on enemies from outside of the game.

I love asymmetic everything (like Aether Saga) and this gives more justification to serious characters. I think it seriously hurts the RPG long-term to run events where serious characters have to sign up for reality TV shows. It damages those characters and people end up restarting. That's why I'd like to help suggest something where that, and the metagaming of things like DA where alliances pop up in a hyper-short space of time, are mitigated somewhat. Obviously it's your saga, but I'd be happy to help and brainstorm with this or whatever else you choose.

Omni Wrote:As a bonus idea you could steal 'pins' from TWEWY. Each has a power like pyrokinesis or flight or whatever, but also they represent 'heads' for the purposes of reaper headhunting. The reapers wanna collect as many as possible - ultimately, they win by collecting every pin in the game. Each player starts with one (though reapers would still be more powerful in some way - the idea is that they are the hunters, and if anything survivors wanna RUN from them. They're like Nemesis, or the SA-X from Metroid Fusion, though they can and should be killed it's like a major thing, they're basically bosses compared to the normal player). It'd be a nice change to weaponry.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

Of course not, I just figured that people were sick of 'Go hunt down and kill everyone on an island' after having to do so last summer and during Hero's Graveyard. I'd say that the voting thus far indicates more interest in something more collaborative, intuitive, less face paced, and lacking the traditional trappings (constraints) of previous events. I'm pretty excited for the two options with the highest vote counts, and when it comes to planning out how this will look in-character, I'll certainly be taking your advise and that of anyone else interested in having a voice.

And while I can't stop people from feeling compelled to screw over one another when the opportunity provides itself, neither of those concepts have anything built into them that promotes that. Will it happen? Obviously. And depending on how it goes down, people ought to be ready for whatever karmic consequences happen to them. I think Hero's Graveyard provided a pretty good example of that.

The Nexus Battle Royale was like a True Ending for Hero's Graveyard.

I'm all about the D because that sounds amazing. Double entendre-rific

Oooooh C and D are very good. Survival Horror is my favorite genre, but I'm also a sucker for conquest stuff. Gotta go with the survival horror though!

Quote:but also the ones with the most potential for monkey wrenchs.

As a Half-Life fan, I agree with the monkey wrench appeal.

Back from my Spring Break. Just wanted to remark that I'll keep up voting for another day or so if people still haven't had a chance to vote or voice opinions.

Otherwise, I'll be going into the Alex cave to plan the things.

Survival Horror only needs 4 more votes to win! Come on people!
