IC D&D PbP RP ['IC' Thread]
#1
The actual thread for the playing out of the horrible shenanigans as mentioned here. Anything relating to playing of the game will be done in this thread; any OOC questions and the like, keep them to the other thread.

For easy reference and access, the game's page, for those who have the join link to it, can be found right here. All actual dice rolls and the like will be done in there, and character sheets will be there.

I will get the first post up and set the scene so you folks can begin trailing in and getting set up for some IC character creation in the very near future.

It was sure looking like quite an eclectic bunch of people that had responded to his call for a game. Honestly, he hadn't been expecting much. Put out the call, get no answer at all, and go on with his business as usual....whatever the fuck that 'business' was. But instead, he'd gotten a few responses back to his dataverse posting. With no small amount of incredulity, he had spawned up copies of the appropriately legendary tomes and rulebooks, and sent them off via mechanical courier. Days passed, and soon enough the dawn of game night was upon him.

Shuffling in to the very suitably-lit room — just enough light to see everything clearly, but still dim enough to set proper dungeon-crawling mood — the young former time god fished out his own copies of the rulebooks and manuals, and his own stack of folders and notebooks for all manner of personal notes, depositing the mess on the table with a resounding thwap, and raising a billowing cloud of dust. "Man...been a long time...shit's dusty..." he wheezed out, waving the offending plume of grit away from his face.

Pulling up his hood, Adam took his place at the head of the table as he went about hurriedly setting up this and that. From what he had gathered, most of the poor saps that had gotten wind of his call to play had never even heard of Dungeons and Dragons, much less played it...luckily for him this wasn't his first rodeo with explaining to hopeless newcomers the basics of playing this most legendary of nerd pastimes. He was a certified kind of professional at it or something.

"As long as nothing catches fire this time....I'll be happy."

And all he could do was wait for this motley crew of strangers to arrive. And hope his directions had been clear enough.

There had rarely been a time or place where I sought out others for fun and games. Seldom did it go well for all parties save myself. When I heard of a means of doing so remotely where people were far less likely to fall to injury by ‘accident’ or see myself as a source of power, I had to restrain myself from jumping immediately at the chance to achieve a distraction of sorts. Obviously I caved.

Time to rest had been far and few in between especially since my demotion from Deputy-Headmaster and Founder of Hogwarts to… Den Mother.

Which was why I found myself here.

I let out a long suffering sigh as I found the pathway across the dataverse’s Sea of Dirac as completely eroded away. The meeting location certainly was well out of the way from the main Dataverse networks and connections. One of the few places in this place that was truly unlimited… and unpredictable.

With a swipe of my hand I wrote a string of runes that normalized the path before me and shortened the distance to the door from the mainland and presented me a cliffside inn. Behind the oaken threshold and classic two story building, I smelt the lingering scents of mulled wine, egg nog and tobacco. It reminded me of far gone times.

In old English typeface was Ye Old Tavern.

When I reached to knock, no sense in not attending to formalities, the door opened before my knuckles could meet the surface. Cocking an eyebrow I shuffled through and was greeted with a number of aromas more than had permeated the entryway.

As my eyes adjusted to the moody lighting, I couldn’t help but smile at the large round table and with one other figure. Apparently I wasn’t completely late, and as I had hoped rather early. With many spaces left available I took a seat with my back and chair directed against the fire. All the better to guard my appearance from recognition when I removed my hood and unburdened myself of my belongings. Three books with exquisite artistry, a pad of sketching paper and one yew and phoenix feather wand. My horcrux though remained firmly ensconced still in my robes.

“David Monroe” I began with my lie, “I’m not late am I?”

There was a brief moment of unnatural peacefulness, a moment of silence and calm settling over the dim room, even the minuscule vibrations of atoms seeming to cease.

Like all good things, this served only to contrast to the immediate retribution for daring to think something positive could happen.

The door burst inwards, a filth-caked boot crashing against the wooden door of the domicile, the inhuman strength of the intruder threatening to crack the omnillium-reinforced portal. The divine king of chronomancy rose from his table, sputtering indignation from beneath his crimson robe as another youth turned from his introduction to regard the giant stepping out from the noxious miasma seeping from his every pore. Dangling from his cadverous mass, hanging alongside the dirtied bone of his skull-trophies, was a collection of air fresheners, the mint-green pine trees withering and screaming their silent howls of agony as they attempted to hold back Nurgle’s gifts.

“W-what the fuck, man! The door wasn’t even fully closed!” Shouted the sanguine-clad master of the game, wildly flailing arms struggling to fully express the frustration they were experiencing.

The rusted, horned helmet of the Chosen tilted, looking quizzically at the man who had called them together. ”That is how... you properly open doors. How would you have me open them?” Okor spoke, an entire swathe of the aromatic forest shrivelling in an attempt to spare his companions from an unfortunate poisoning.

Pale hands pressed themselves against a hooded face that was finding itself unable to fully comprehend the concept that a ten-thousand year old warrior had kicked down every door that had the nerve to stand in his way.  “Just… Just sit down. I’ll be sure to, uh, keep that in mind.” A pencil scrawled across the page, subtly adjusting the lethality of doors.

Connor snuck in behind the massive stinking behemoth. Using his stealth unit he sat by the youngest of the group, he uncloaks himself startling the young man in red pajamas?

“God damnit you scared me!”, the teen exclaims, Connor chuckles,
“So who is the DM, also, if you tell anyone that I was here, I will shoot you. You do not know how much reputation I have at stake.”

The youngest turns to him,

“Calm down, no one is going to tell anyone, and I am the DM.”

Connor’s jaw drops...
