Fodder?

Sooo... I have no idea what "RP Fodder" means exactly, just that a move I'm really attached to seems to be classified as it. Every time I hear it, my brain thinks "Guess that means no." When I google the definition, I get something about feed for cattle. What is it exactly, and why can't I create one in the Moves Creation thread?

RP fodder means it's just the way you do something. It's a move that exists solely as an explanation for something, such as how you summon weapons, how you use a power, etc. It essentially means that it's without combat applications, and costs 0 OM.

In this instance, it's largely as Okor pointed out. If it doesn't confer a direct advantage in a combat or storyline-specific, judged/graded scenario, it's usually fine as something you can 'just do'.

So what if a Fodder move has applications for storyline purposes? Such as the Hands of the Sculptor allowing Nimo to rebuild an NPC village out of sculpted stone? In this instance, he's scooping stone out by the handful and easily shaping them into bricks.

That's nothing any other Prime couldn't already do with Omnilium, so that's just fine.

Constructing anything with omnilium takes at least (if memory serves) three minutes. The purpose of the move was to use matter already at hand to shorten the required time by simply reshaping what is on hand. Downside is that anything he's crafted he can't change, and it only acts as an extension of the Prime (like a move) for sixty seconds. Another use is to dig through solid stone as if it was hot butter.

Right. And that's fine and dandy. It's still the exact same end result, achieved in a different manner, that wouldn't really have any use at its basic function to warrant being priced as an actual Move.

The thing is, the overall function of how you do something, which is what you've been working on trying to get approved as a move, isn't as important as what you're trying to do with it.

In this instance, it would have an absurd cost and requirements due to variability, most likely.

Being able to reshape things at will? Fine. Just make sure you take appropriate time to do it.
Making a weapon with it? 300 OM. For each specific type of weapon. (Sword, spear, axe, etc, etc)
Making a shield out of it? Another 300 OM. For larger shields, like fully-body or tower shields, another 300, and Area Shield Proficiency.
Digging through the ground? Another 300, and needs Integration.

It's a tricky science to get the hang of at first.

When you need cash to buy a drink in whatever verse you're in? That's fodder.

Your character hungry now and needs money to buy that fine cuisine at a restaurant? That's fodder.

When you're renting an apartment on Coruscant that isn't a purchased base? That's fodder.

When you carry a medkit with bandages and band-aids for field care? That's fodder.

It's roleplay writing/material that isn't covered by the rules of the Omniverse.
