Writing 'Battles'
#1
Hey. On other forums I like the host/participate in writing battles. It's a completely OOC thing. Basically two (ish) people agree to compete and they get assigned a random topic to write about, with a limit and a deadline. Then people vote for a winner. There are no prizes or anything, it's just a fun little thing for people to do. I like them because it gets me writing even when I'm in a drought.

Is it okay if I did something like that in the Creative Corner?

It sounds allot like the mock fights that we have going on. usually we have a single judge using the omniverse template to find out who wins the battle. But they are basically the same thing. Check out some of them going on in the Darkestverse ( or whatever omni named it this time ).

Nah, this isn't just fights. This is like...completely off the wall topics. Not Omniverse related. Like, say...it could be a war drama piece or a silly comedy, whatever. Not there's anything wrong with what Omni is doing, but my thing is really OOC. Meant to stretch the limits of what someone has written before. I can give an example if needed.

Like a short story competition? Sounds neat. :tiphat:

Being OOC, The Creative Corner would totally be the place for that. Also, any thing that encourages the eradication of writer's block and doesn't effect IC is generally okay. Example: Mock battles like Yu Kanda suggested.

I know what Blink is talking about, since he hosted similar events back on Chubbs. Basically, it's like a writing elimination tournament. Each pair of contestants gets a written assignment, where they have to write a creative post that fulfills certain conditions (like it has to be about a specific topic, it has to be of a certain length, it has to be written from a specific perspective etc.) within the allocated time. Once the deadline is up, assuming both contestants managed to submit their entries, the readers then vote on which one they like better. The contestant with more votes wins and proceeds to the next round.

It's never been anything official. Just a fun little side-activity for those looking to challenge themselves creatively.

But yeah, Blink, that's fine. You can do that in the Creative Corner. I'm sure the community will appreciate such an event. Smile

Thanks. Dunno if I'd want it to be a 'tournament' but I'd like to try to some one-off things to see if it helps out.
