Phalanx, the Iron Revenant
#1
Character name: Phalanx

Character history: Legend tells of a revenant, a long-dead conquerer. Cursed to roam the land in the very armor he wore in life for all eternity, the vengeful spirit would enslave the souls of his victims in order to rebuild his once great army and enact his revenge. Or was it merely the spectre of a noble knight? Lost to the sands of time as he returned from a bloody battle as the lone survivor, unbeknownst to him that he left his mortal coil. Or better yet! The soul of a lowly squire, searching for the blade of his master who gloriously perished in battle! Drunkard's tales, it's just a dwarven creation, those grumpy short creatures are truly amazing with technology.

Many theories have risen and fallen from the mists of the human psyche as they try to comprehend the autonomous suit of armor with the enormous shield that seems to only respond to the word "Phalanx". Many speak of how a silent, swordless knight saved their lives from bandit and beast alike, appearing out of nowhere and walking off without a word when his duty is fulfilled. An nigh-impenetrable defence to those who require it, which is often quickly repurposed to smite their assailants.

One such tale speaks of the possessed armor watching over a party of knights that were sent to slay a dragon, they were ill-equipped and barely trained. Throughout their journey they were attacked by a group of bandits when suddenly a heavily armored figure jumped out in front of them, the outlaw's weapons bounced off the newcomer's shield. While both parties were figuring out where the shielded knight came from, he bashed their assailants into submission before retreating back in the thick brush without a word.

When the knights finally reached the reptile's lair, Phalanx jumped to their aid once more. Blocking strike after strike from the dragon's claws and maw, the beast reared back and readied to breathe fire and melt the pesky shieldbearer. Phalanx held its ground as the knights retreated. The flames engulfed the spectre, the stream of fire seemed endless. When it finally died down, the autonomous suit of armor had disappeared without a trace. Whisked away to the plane known as the Omniverse, Phalanx was greeted by a creature even more peculiar than himself. The omnipotent being known here as Omni.

Physical Description:
The enigmatic entity dubbed "Phalanx" inhabits a vicious-looking, ornately crafted suit of armor. There is no sign of conventional magic or ingenious circuitry like in most cases with an autonomous armor, Phalanx is truly a baffling sight. The iron-clad spectre carries a large rectangular shield which it uses for its astounding defense. The complete lack of a conventional weapon may cause confusion, which is usually quickly rectified by a bash of the armor's enormous shield. Phalanx earned its name as the unbreakable wall it poses. A small runic symbol is scratched into the inside of the helmet, just above the neck.

Despite Phalanx' curious state of being, the suit of armor displays sentience and even a limited range of human emotion. Phalanx is extremely duty-bound and will rarely disregard an order issued from his allies. Adressing the entity with "Phalanx," followed by the order to be carried out will generally yield the wanted result in battle. The suit of armor is not without a sense of self-worth, and will simply ignore orders it considers too menial, instead standing absolutely motionless until adressed or upon sensing a threat. Due to its lack of a physical body, Phalanx has no voice or facial expressions. Instead, it exclusively uses body language to communicate.

Stats:
ATK: 2
DEF: 5
SPD: 1
TEC: 2

Starting Proficiencies: Physical Strength (1000)
Area Shield Proficiency (400)
Starting Powers: Hive Mind (400)

Starting Moves:
Aegis shield: (600) a large and very heavy rectangular shield, it measures out at about 5 feet in height and 3 feet in width. The shield's cast-iron form carries the visage of a roaring lion. The shield is slow and hard to handle, but it can be a formidable defensive and offensive measure.
Shield bash: (300) Phalanx winds up for about a second before swinging his shield into a nearby enemy. The momentum the heavy shield builds up allows it to hit much harder than his average punches, but it requires him to sacrifise his defenses for a moment and is very tiring and slow.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.
Yep.

Hi and welcome to our humble abode!

Couple of things:

1) I don't believe this is your intent, but I need to clarify that using armor as your character's body will not allow you any sort of advantage over those made of flesh. You'll die in the same fashion as any other prime if wear comes to worse. (It's a cool story idea tho!)

2) In your history, we are going to require that you elaborate on the events that transpire just before Phalanx is whisked away and brought to the Omniverse. Flesh it out so that we know what was going on in his story before being brought here.

3) For your Shield Move, you are fine to have it as both an offensive and defensive move, and you have priced it correctly at 600 OM, but how large is the shield? If it is intended to deflect or shield any area larger than a few meters, you are going to need the Area Shield Prof.

Let us know and we will further you along in the process! We eagerly await to read your adventures! ^_^

I've updated the sheet with the requested changes. The whole "armor" thing is just a gimmick and is not intended to give Phalanx an innate advantage over anyone, basically it's just metal and chainmail instead of flesh and blood. Though I am planning to build him into a traditional "tank" through use of Survival and Defense upgrades, more specifically, I'm looking at the Survival power that allows you to basically ignore grievous wounds and costs 2000 OM. I didn't see anything saying "you're only allowed to have this if..." so that's my long-term goal for now.

Survival is a great power.

Only thing I want to point out is that you need 'Area Shield Proficiency' to have a shield that is bigger than 3 feet by 3 feet. You can add that if you want (I believe you have some OM left), or you can edit his shield to be a smidge shorter. If you add the Prof down the road, you can upgrade the move for free.

Make your decision and myself or someone else will finish up your sheet for you, okay?

Really cool character concept. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks for pointing that out. It seems I misunderstood the uses of Area Shield Proficiency, I thought it was necessary for a shield spell or other form of temporary barrier. I've decided to add it now, that should be everything needed.
