I've honestly looked all over the place, but I can't find anything specifically saying yes or no. In short, an old character of mine is an animated suit of armor named Phalanx. It's not alive in the conventional sense. You could see it as possessed, basically. The spirit itself has no physical form, but can "die" when the suit of armor it possesses is damaged or destroyed. Technically it's just a normal human, but instead of flesh and blood it's chainmail and plates.

I am no staff, but a couple people here are playing robots. And one is playing a book. So it should be ok, as long as you stick to the rest of the rules.

Keeping in mind that being just a suit of armor wouldn't confer any sort of bonus in any way, which you seem to grasp, that would be perfectly fine to do.
It's not quite the same thing, but we do have a couple of robots and an undead or two hanging around somewhere, and they work pretty much the same way.
"Hold on a second, I have a call..."
"Yes, this is Wesker. Go ahead."

I'm playing a alien that's a living toy, and others are playing robots and a book, so yes.
