Want to be Involved? Become a Judge today!
#1
I'd like to introduce a new title: "Judge." A judge is simply a member whose judgement on granting 'Great' and 'Exemplary' bonuses as explained in Bonus Rewards is considered to be sound and trustworthy. If a Judge deems a thread as being worthy of either of those bonuses, or a common (non-artefact, non-one-off) quest of being worthy of completion, they can simply post in the Bonus Request Topic with their judgement and the member will be updated by a staff to receive the bonus within a (hopefully) timely fashion. This lets members help out and reduces the strain on mods to judge everything.

So how do I become a judge?

You must nominate at least ten non-quest threads for Great or Exemplary bonuses through the bonus request topic. If staff members concur with your opinions, get in touch with Omni or Alex, or post here, and we'll grant you a special colour and title so that mods know you're an official judge and your opinions are to be trusted. That's all there is to it! Thanks for helping out. Smile
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

I have links to all my written topics under the history section on my roster, if any potential judge wants to grade those. "Enel's Arrival", "Of Gods, Kings, and Girls" and "Ganondorf's Choice and Enel's Compromise" are all technically part of the same storyline. I'll let Apollo take these if he wants since he asked.

People who aren't participating in the Trade-A-Grade™ should probably just post their links here if they want them graded.

Hey, I'll play.

Zack and Matrix both have a few threads that at very least match the minimum requirements on word count. If they actually qualify for bonuses? I dunno. Sounds like a good job for a judge.

Proto Man - http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?tid=619 ; http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?tid=1196 ; http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?tid=2377 ~ All of those have the requisite word counts.

My stuff for Shang was mostly quest-based w/ Atelos or saga-based with the Colosseum, but this (http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?tid=2988) would be a good one.

All Seventeen has done is quests.

Not as much response as I'd hoped, but I'll leave this open for anyone who has aspirations of becoming a staffer.

So, quick question. I notice Omni's original post says to nominate people in the Bonus Request topic, but some people have posted them here. Where should they go, because i'm more inclined to go by what Omni said.

Nominations go in the Bonus thread. The ones posted here are options from which you can pull from to make a nomination after you've read and reviewed them. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for staff members to be posting Nominations here to become a Judge, being that they already have that baked into their job.

Alright, I did a little digging through my stuff.

Here's some that are definitely over 5k.

A Girl and a Goron
Bros Before Flows
Little Lost Charmander

Here's some that are probably over 5k.

Home Is Where The Monsters Are
The World You Know
Riding The Worm

I've never counted any of them, obviously, but there's a whole bunch of words involved. There might be one or two other candidates in my logs within my rosters that I missed, as well.

A word of advice for aspiring Judges: When you nominate a thread for Exceptional/Great, try and at least explain why you think it's worthy of being called that. Not only does it tell us staff that 'Ah, they legit read that and legit thought it was purdy good,' but it also gives the writer at least a modicum of feedback.

This is by no means a requirement (yet), but I think it's a nice practice to get into, especially if you potential Judges want people to buy into yer legitimacy.

The example I pulled is A+:

I've been consistently impressed by Vision's abilities to portray the internal workings off the android relative to what's outside, and speaking as a guy studying computer engineering, I have seen far worse examples of pseudo-code in my days. Likewise Frisk has been doing a great job of sticking to her character's pacifist origins, even though so much of the omniverse is designed around violence and conflict. Always cool when a concept character can stay strong through an extended period of time. The only reason I would say this isn't exemplary is length I believe, there's a lot of dialog, and the previously mentioned pseudo-code can make  posts look longer than they actually are. All together though an excellent piece of writing from both authors! Go Omnivengers!

Bumping this to bring a little bit of attention to this program, and also to shamelessly promote some of my threads. With the decrease in word count requirements for bonuses, Should Have Been meets the requirements (though it's better read if you're an FF7 fan), if anyone has interest in judging, as do the back half of my previous post in this thread (probably).

Great is now 4k and Exemplary 8k, so there's a lot of other good threads across this site that now meet the requirements. Worth doing some digging, for everyone involved!

I'll judge people's threads if they PM me. Otherwise I tend to skim just so I can maintain my omniscience.
And, we dream of home I dream of life out of here Their dreams are small My dreams don't know fear I got my heart full of hope I will change everything No matter what I'm told How impossible it seems We did it before And we'll do it again We're indestructible Even when we're tired And we've been here before Just you and I

This one is 5001 words.
28364 characters.

Are we still on board for this? If so, I have a good 6, or so, judgement threads up my belt already and will certainly do more for the title of judge.
