Switching Alt: Casey Jones to Brother Devon
#1
Name: Devon Wilson Whilts aka Brother Devon

Source:OC

Physical Description: (originals only)
Height:Six foot even
Weight:One hundred and eighty-five lbs
Hair ColourBig Grinark brown
Eye colour:Cobalt blue
Build: Just slightly above average, not fat, but nor is he all muscle bound. He has the build similar to that of someone who grew up working on a small farm.

At a first glance Devon looks very much out of place. His hair is a little over shoulder length and looks like it was combed with his fingers only. He is normally seen with a beard, this is due to his upbringing more then anything else. Now and then he will try and trim it or shave it but it rarely lasts and eventually grows back to it's messy state. While his hair and beard look messy he is far from unclean as he prides himself on washing every change he gets, even if it is in a local river or pond. He knows getting dirty is something that will always happen, but he tries to rarely stay dirty for long. He has runes tattooed on him from the base of his neck down to his toes. His clothing hides most of these and he wears gloves to hide the tattoos on his hands, though a small fraction of the tattooed runes can be seen on the lower part of his neck. His clothes are mismatched and mostly gathered from the people he has met during his travels, or purchased from thrift stores if he has had the money. His wardrobe mainly consists of faded jeans and brightly coloured t-shirts that are usually oranges, yellows, or even reds at times. The only thing of his clothing that looks out of place, as it seems to be rather new and of a better quality then the rest, is a white leather jacket which is a cherished object that he will never get rid of. He also wears combat boots he was given as a gift, as well as a simple wooden amulet with the symbol of the order carved into it that he wears around his neck on a simple black cord.

Personality/Basics:
Age:27
Birth date: June 4th
Birthplace: Barton City, NY (an alternate version of New York City).
Hobbies:Studying the scrolls and tomes he pilfered from the order before he left, helping people, travel!
LikesTongueeople, life, bettering himself to help those around him
Dislike: Some Non-Humans, Alcohol, vows of chastity

Devon is not stupid, but can sometimes be a little too trusting of people. While he is suspicious of anyone that appears to be non-human he generally believes that there is a sense of fellowship between all humans, male and female, and will generally trust them more then he would anyone other 'creatures' he encounters. He is always studying, not only his tomes, but everything around him he sees that is new to him. This is because he hasn't spent much time in the world outside the monastery so a lot of things are new and wondrous to him. Because of this he asks a lot of questions, sometimes an annoying amount, so others can only find him tolerable in small doses. Like all at the monastery he has taken the vows but believes that some are needed while others are simply foolish. He takes to heart his vows of sobriety and poverty, while the first thing he wished to be rid of was his vow of chastity as he never liked that one at all! He believes that all of man kind should become close enjoying both emotional and physical fellowships of all kinds.

History

Personal History:
Devon was born to the Whilts family on June 4th, and lead a relatively happy life while he was with them. His parents, Troy and Felicia Whilts, were very outspoken people that were not content with the way things were going with the world. While they were not against the other races that seemed to inhabit the world they lived in, they did think that human survivability and advancement should come before anything else and that the other races were perhaps stunting this. They also did not believe in most religions, finding all the facts presented to be too contradictory or flat out preposterous.

This brought them to the order's attention and they were approached by one of the order's public agents. After many discussions they decided that Devon would be sent to the monastery to learn and help further the cause of humanity's advancement in the world. Devon's last memory of his parents was when they took him to a fireworks display, this was the day before they sent him away at the age of five.

Devon had become a Foundling of Ordo lux lucis quod vita, a monastery who take in anyone, male or female, as long as they are human and come from families the believe similar to what the order does. This particular group believes that there are no gods and man's fate is in it's own hands. The existence of demons, angles, and all the other races are explained away as “They are all very powerful creatures and the like, not minions of any god.”

From his first day at the monastery the lessons began. He was drilled in history, philosophy, math, whatever they thought he would need. There were not only lessons but all the daily chores, upkeep of the orders small farm, meditation sessions, and sermons, all of which continued for years. It wasn't until he was twelve that he moved up to the rank of apprentice, learning to open himself to the energy of the universe and shape it with his will. Though at this stage he was only taught very basic things and the runes that were used to summon the energy were painted on so they could be washed off when the lessons were over.

He was also taught basic self defence and started to train with weapons till it was decided the sword would best suit him, his love of Roman history drove him to take the gladius as his weapon of choice. It was during this period in his life at the monastery that he started to really notice how removed the order was from the rest of the world. He would talk with his fellow apprentices, and some of his teachers about it, only to get the same old answers. It was to prevent the order from clashing with other races and people with different ideas, as this had caused a few wars in the distant past. Eventually he stopped asking the questions, but they were always there in the back of his mind. He continued with his lessons and grew close to some of his brothers and sisters in the order but nothing ever happened due to the enforced vows of chastity, another thing that bugged him very much.

When he turned twenty he had advanced in his studies to the point where he joined the rank of the Accepted. This was when the runes used to connect a brother or sister to the energies of the universe, the fire of life they call it, were permanently tattooed on them all the way from their shoulders to their feet. He would start to be taught all the more complex spells, though it would start with minor offensive spells and work up from there. When he progressed far enough into his training he could learn one of the top level spells if he chose but this was generally discouraged as most of them had rather negative effects not only on the intended targets but the caster as well.

While he chose to learn one and felt first hand it's effects he decided to never use it again unless it was a last resort and there was no other option. He was also taught to try and rely more on his blade then his power because you never knew when you could be cut off from the fire of life and only your weapon could save your life. Sadly he never really progressed too far in his combat training, as it seemed his skill for the arcane was far superior to any of his physical talents. He spent 7 years as an Accepted and was very close to become a full Brother, the moment the final tattoos that bound you to the order would be added to your forehead and cheeks, when he decided to leave. He knew the order had become far too removed from the rest of the world and made the decision to go out and travel, learn the state of things in the world at large, and how the order could once again reintegrate itself into society and take on a more active role.

His plans were to take what he could, go out and learn everything he could and return back to the order and give a rousing speech that would spur them into action. Sadly somewhere along the way things went wrong and he got horridly lost. After a few days of panic he met a kind couple that took them into their house. While they were the overly religious sort he kept quiet on the order's view of 'there are no gods' out of respect. It was during a conversation with them that the notion that everything happens for a reason came up and this helped calm Devon greatly, maybe there was a reason he got lost. During his meditation that night he decided that he was lost for a purpose, to go out and learn all that he could about the world and that when he had learned what he needed to his mind would open up and show him the way back home.

After staying with the couple for one more day he took his leave of them, but not before they gifted him with a white leather jacket that had belong to their son who had died the year previous and who Devon reminded them of greatly. He thanked them and vowed to cherish it always. It has been months since that day and he has gathered clothing and other items from various places, living off charity of others and his own hard work as his vow of poverty does not allow him to gather wealth for himself. He uses whatever money earned to buy only the bare essentials and then gives the rest to people who need it more.

While he knows his parents are probably still out there he does not actively seek them out. They were kind people and he loved them very much, probably still does, but he has a new purpose as well as a new family that he is devoted to. It was during this journey of discovery, the few months after he had left the old couples house, that Omni snatched him from his world and sent him to the Omniverse.
Starting Proficiencies: Physical Strength (1000), Buff (400), Area Shield (400), Area attack (600)

Starting Powers: Master Acrobat (400)

Starting Moves:

Roman Gladius:
Weight: 2.2lbs
Length: 33 inches
Blade length: 26 inches
Width: 2.8 inches
Devon always loved Roman history so when he had to choose a sword he went with the Roman Gladius. Gladii were two-edged for cutting and had a tapered point for stabbing during thrusting. A solid grip was provided by a knobbed hilt added on, possibly with ridges for the fingers. Blade strength was achieved by welding together strips, in which case the sword had a channel down the center, or by fashioning a single piece of high-carbon steel, rhomboidal in cross-section. The owner's name was often engraved or punched on the blade.

Light of peace (First level spell): (300 OM, requires Buff.)

The user channels the fire of life in to another person, but not the caster themselves, filling them and providing then with an adrenaline like rush,. This allows them to focus without tiring for a short period of time. It won't really give them any extra strength or speed, just that they could keep fighting past the point when they would normally collapse from exhaustion. Activated with a chant of “Videlicet meus mens” as well as physical contact between Devon and the intended target.

Since he is effectively giving his own energy to someone else use of this move puts him at a disadvantage as he gets tired much faster then he normally would. It also means that if he fights or anything like that after using this there is a chance he could faint.

Another variation of this is an external use that allows the user to infuse energy into an object causing it to give off a green glow very much like glow sticks used for cave exploring and the like. This ability is useful for it provides not only light, put a light source that can be passed off for someone to use, as long as they stay in the area of the caster (no more then five feet away). If they get to far away the effects dissipate and the light is lost. It is a very soothing light and does help people in it's glow to calm ever so slightly. This power is activated with a simple chant of “Lux lucis meus via” ((This second part is mostly RP fodder so I didn't add the other 300 OM for that if that is cool?))

Weapon Enhancement (Second level spell): (300 Om, Requires Buff)

Advances the usefulness of a weapon for a set amount of time, but only the weapons of an ally and not his own. The weapon in question would be slightly more sturdy and do more damage then it normally would. He is basically investing his own energy into the object, causing a slight increase in effectiveness. Only really useful on traditionally melee weapons. Not good for “modern weaponry”, things with too many moving parts or ones that use chemical reactions, like guns and explosives. Basically swords, maces, axes, and staves are all good! Activated with a chant of “Succurro telum opus” and physical contact with the weapon in question. Lasts for approximately five minutes and gives the weapon a slight glow.

In a combat situation this would mean it causes the weapons to do more damage. Use of this spell takes up his own energy, but even more of it then a lower level buff. The chance for him to faint or even go unconscious if he continues to fight for a long period of time afterwards is greatly increased.

Spirit Shield (Third level spell): (600 OM, Personal and group modes, Requires Area Shield)

This creates an energy shield, a bubble that surrounds him and his friends, though it is only a few meters in diameter. It last a limited time, as with all spells that have time limits this is based of the users will with a min/max of 3 to 5 minutes, but can be dissipated with enough blows or even one very strong blow. The caster can feel each blow that connects with the shield, and if the hit to the shield is hard enough it might even damage the caster. Still can be very useful in a tight spot.

Can also be channelled as a personal shield, which looks like the Roman Scutumus. Same limitations as the group shield. It is a large rectangle curved shield, 41 inches high and 16 inches across. Appears on his left arm.

Firewall (Fourth Level Spell); (300 Om, Requires Area Attack)

It is as the name implies a wall of fire. It can be up to 10 feet high and either stretch out for 20 feet, and up to 4 four feet thick. It is very tough to put out this fire, as a lot of energy has gone into creating it, but it is not impossible. It does last for a limited time though, again five minutes or so based on caster will power. The flames burn hotter than any normal fire, but the 'wall' does not physically prevent anyone from passing through it. However, due to this heat, anyone who chooses to pass through it will be horribly burned. Tiers out the caster immensely, a lot of rest and food would be needed after a battle if this was used. The wall goes up right in front of the caster and is only mainted as long as the person who summed it does not move. If they back away/leave/ move to avoid attack the fire is dismissed leaving only charred ground underneath. Activated with a chant of “Aestuo perspicuus parietis incendia”

'he could keep fighting past the point when he would normally collapse from exhaustion.' this is highly useful in competitive situations and is more like a self buff, which we don't do. Therefore this would require the use of a super move/ transformation

Quote:Weapon Enhancement (Second level spell): (300 Om, Requires Buff)

Advances the usefulness of a weapon for a set amount of time, but only the weapons of an ally and not his own. The weapon in question would be slightly more sturdy and do more damage then it normally would. This spell is effective by studying the use of weapons and how they are made (How was the sword forged? Can we strengthen the metal a bit? They are sharpened by filing away layers of the edge, can we retain this sharp edge for a longer period? Staffs hurt cause the wood is hard, wood is made of what molecules? How do we make change them it harder? etc). It only lasts for 5 minutes or so, depending on the will of the caster, and after it is over the weapon reverts back to it's original state. Only really useful on traditionally melee weapons. Not good for “modern weaponry”, things with too many moving parts like guns, or compounds with mixed chemicals that cause a reaction. Basically swords, maces, axes, and staff good! Guns and bombs bad! Activated with a chant of “Succurro telum opus”

The wording of this move confuses me, and not because I don't understand it, but because you've explained how, but not what. I get that it makes weapons more efficient. But in what actual ways would it affect these weapons? Just going to Link you to an example of a Buff move

How large is a Roman Scutumus?

Oh I forgot to mention that generally the downsides of Buff moves come at a cost to the user (unless it's a supermove and you're using SP to Buff). Sorry, it was pretty late when I did all of this the first time through.

Also, Your second buff move still confuses me, but seems fine.

They just need appropriate downsides.

Also, with the history, the Non essential stuff can be added in later. Please just include the main history with the point he was brought to the Oniverse.
