Hideaki Yajima
#1
Character Name: Hideaki Yajima

Character Source: Linebarrels of Iron

Character History:
Hideaki Yajima had been friends with Kouichi Hayase and Risako Niiyama since elementary school, and had always protected them (mainly Kouichi) from bullies. Ostensibly, this was because he was a fine and upstanding person. In reality, it was solely to do with trying to impress Risako. She saw right through him, though, so in the end his act amounted to nothing. Eventually, he did actually come to consider Kouichi a friend, though, so he wasn't all that bad.

And then one day his life was changed forever when Hayase was chosen to become the factor (pilot) for a machina (mecha) called Linebarrel. Along with being a factor came the gift of super strength... for... some reason. As such, Kouichi clearly no longer needed his protection.

Unfortunately, all this new-found power went straight to his head. In an attempt at stopping him from getting himself killed, Yajima got into a fight with his friend... and then ended up being fatally wounded when a rogue machina called Apparition showed up and attempted to kill Kouichi. On the bright side, the realisation that his stupidity had directly led to his best friend's death caused Kouichi to (more or less) get over his delusions of grandeur. So it wasn't all bad, at least.

In a strange twist of fate, Apparition's AI then selected the practically-dead Yajima to be its factor. Not seeing how this could possibly backfire in any way, the leader of the Katou Organisation (the group to whom Apparition was supposed to belong), Hisataka Katou, used his super-advanced alternate-dimension technology to save Yajima's life. He also gave him a prosthetic right arm, to replace the one he had lost when he 'died'.

Yajima at first helped Katou, and once again attempted to convince Kouichi to give up on being a factor. When this failed, he joined the Juda Corporation (Hayase's group) instead. Proving once and for all that saving the life of your enemy's best friend, asking him to become a member of the organisation directly responsible for almost killing him and then giving him a twenty-metre-tall mecha and the power of super-strength to top it all off... probably isn't the best idea ever.

In the end, though, Hisataka turned out to be a traitor, so that may well have been intentional. The real villain was his second-in-command; a cyborg cowboy (yes, I'm being completely serious) named Masaki Sugawara, who was intent upon opening a dimensional gateway in order to allow the other cyborgs from his homeworld to invade their reality. Kouichi eventually managed to beat him, though, and everyone was saved. Yay.

Admittedly, he didn't manage to stop Sugawara until after Earth had been invaded, so it was a bit of a pyrrhic victory... even if the death toll probably wasn't nearly as bad as you'd expect from a giant robot invasion. At the very least, pretty much every nation in the world must have suffered billions of whatever-currency-they-used worth of property damage.

And then they all lived happily ever after... until Yajima was kidnapped by Omni a few days later.
Physical Description:
Stats: +1 (1000)
ATK: 4
DEF: 3
SPD: 2
TEC: 2

Starting Proficiencies:
Physical Strength (1000)

Starting Powers:
Advanced Super Jumping (500)

Starting Moves: N/A
Factor's Eye (600)
(Physical Strength)
Yajima's iris & pupil glow bright pink, and a horizontal dash of the same colour appears though them as he briefly focuses his energy. Whilst in this state, his next punch or kick is far more powerful, but also much more draining than it normally would have been. As such, overusing this ability will very quickly tire him out. One of these enhanced attacks can send someone flying backwards with enough force to break stone, should they actually strike some. The maximum distance they can be thrown is approximately five metres.

Block (300)
(Physical Strength)
Yajima places one or both of his arms or hands in the path of an oncoming blow or projectile. This does not actually reduce the force of the attack; it only reduces its severity by redirecting the damage away from his vital organs. Although he can block with either arm, he'll usually opt to use his right; since it's mechanical, he can't feel pain in that one, after all. Also, metal is harder to break than bone, so there's that too.

Crush (300)
(Physical Strength)
Thanks to his increased strength, Yajima is capable of exerting great pressure upon his opponents simply by grabbing them (by the arm, hand, neck, etc.) and squeezing. This grip can be extremely painful and if maintained long enough could potentially lead to broken bones. That said, against Primes and powerful Secondaries it will likely manage no more than to leave a bruise, if that. The main drawback of this technique is that he must maintain his hold for an extended period in order for it to have much effect on tougher opponents, and during that time he is far less able to effectively block or evade attacks.

Starting Items:
Mobile Dataverse Device (100)
Communicator (200)

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

Factor's Eye is just 300, since it's only one punch or a kick.

I don't think you really need a move for Crush... it just seems like a strong grapple, which is Physical Strength? Y'know?

Other than that, everything else checks out. Post up your roster, and then we'll change your name for you.

Sweet. Another 600 OM to save towards building my mecha. Big Grin

For the record, though, I bought an extra stat point, so my Spent OM is actually 3400, not 2400:
Quote:Stats: +1 (1000)
ATK: 4
DEF: 3
SPD: 2
TEC: 2
4+3+2+2=11

So I've posted my roster and added "First Stat Upgrade" into the upgrades section.

Thanks, Proto.

Actually, I've just remembered another instance in which Yajima used his enhanced strength to punch someone into a wall, and in that case the guy was thrown all the way down a hallway; much further than five metres... so if possible I'd like to change the knockback distance for Factor's Eye to ten metres... unless that would that be making him too strong for someone with 4 ATK? In that case I guess I'll have no choice but to save up for another stat upgrade.

I think that 10 is a little harsh since the move can be done pretty much instantaneously.

I'll just keep it as is, then (rather than adding a charge-up time, or whatever). If I do get another point in ATK somewhere down the road, though, would it be possible to upgrade it to ten metres then? Or is even 5 ATK still too low?
