Just spitballing some ideas to the staff teams way: i know everyone is very busy on the staff team but would it not be nice to have a word counter for your posts so everyone else can see how many words you've written? One that shows even after you post. This would make tracking quests a little easier in groups and eliminate the need of quote trackers. Also it would make it easier for the potential judges to sum up the word count of a thread. Just an idea to maybe look into for leisure.

Adding extra plugins to the site can be very tricky and dangerous (it could throw the balance out of whack), plus it's not that hard for a staff member to full edit a post and look at the word count. and, as you mentioned, we can also leave a quote that shows the word count for the post.

Interesting Idea, but I don't think we need to try and fit a plugin in for something that isn't all that bothersome.
