My Dream's Descent
#1
---
Location: Desolate Unknown World
Time: Pre-Omniverse, Jaixe’s Final Moments
---

Darkness is power. That's what Jaixe believed, but on a world made desolate from his influence, he faced against two heroes and his faith wavered with each passing moment.

Sparks dazzled against the background of the starry sky as a black, curved scythe met against a blade of brilliant blue energy. "You are stronger than the last time we met, Templar." Jaixe boasted as he held his guard against the alien warrior that had come to contest him once more, as he always had before. Teldranis was always the most stalwart and imposing of the heroes Jaixe had fought against, but even the mighty warrior wouldn't be able to assure his downfall. "It will not be long before my shadow swallows this world whole. You are wasting your strength with this reckless act." He continued to taunt the warrior.

"Your shadow will consume no worlds this day, dark one." The golden-armored warrior spoke back, but perhaps spoke was incorrect. Teldranis had no mouth, nor a nose, or looked even remotely human in nature. He was significantly taller than the dark-cloaked Heartless, and had a more imposing frame. He had white and purple scaly skin, a narrow waist, but was very well toned and muscular. When the warrior locked against Jaixe, Teldranis's wholly blue eyes bore into Jaixe's, seeming to be the antithesis to those of the Heartless. The two brilliantly blue blades were attached to the wrist guards of his armor, and seemed to constantly pulse with energy whenever he swung them. And when he spoke, it was via thoughts that echoed into the mind of the recipient, something that always bothered Jaixe when it occurred.

Behind Teldranis was a much smaller, younger girl with blonde hair, and green eyes that seemed to watch in awe. Jaixe did not know why she was here, or what purpose she would serve, but he paid her no heed. The two fought atop a rocky outcropping overlooking a desolate canyon below that teemed with shadows and Heartless, the army that Jaixe had conjured forth. With each swing of his blade, the golden warrior gained ground against Jaixe, little by little. Every swipe Jaixe parried resulted in him being pushed back. Every slash he blocked with his scythe resulted in him being pushed back. His feet slide against the dirt and rock as he struggled against the warrior. It wasn't long before he was dangerously close to the edge.

"No, Templar, my shadow will consume all worlds." Jaixe spoke, quickly charging and then releasing a powerful outburst of black energy to throw Teldranis back as Jaixe walked backwards off the edge. When his feet left the ground, however, Jaixe did not fall as expected but instead stood on what seemed to be a black mass, conjured hastily for the purposes of keeping the Seeker of Darkness afloat. "I don't know what trick you have in mind, Templar, but I will not allow you to use it. You may have bested my other self, but you will not be the end of me." Jaixe spate at Teldranis as the duo, the warrior and the small girl, watched him. One seemed as stoic and calm as ever, but the girl seemed to stand defiantly against Jaixe. “I’m not afraid of you, Darky.” She shouted, but Jaixe ignored it. "I will show you the full depths of my power, and cast you into oblivion!"

Dark energy pulsed throughout Jaixe's body as his will surged into the desired form. The energy shot upwards as Jaixe held his scythe high above his head, collecting into a massive sphere that radiated with a dark intent. "I will not suffer your interference any longer!" Jaixe seemed to shout with triumph and joy as the dark sphere grew ever larger and more imposing. And yet, the alien warrior did not budge, nor seemed to be the least bit threatened by Jaixe's imminent attack. If anything, he seemed far too calm. And the girl seemed far too unafraid and steadfast in her rebelliousness. Something was wrong here. Something was terribly wrong.

And before he could act on these warnings, a blindingly bright light seemed to surge forth behind him, followed by a booming voice that he couldn't identify the source of.

"The light shall burn you away!" The voice rang forth, and as the sphere was set to detonate on Jaixe's enemies, a wave of pure white energy soared through the skies and seemed to dispel the shadowy mass Jaixe had conjured. In mere seconds, the darkness was blown away, and Jaixe was pushed forward abruptly, the powerful surge of light slamming into his back and throwing him off his feet until he landed far behind where Teldranis stood, rolling across the ground until he finally stopped. Steam and dust blew off of him and sparks of white energy arced across his body as he slammed his scythe into the ground, it resounding with a loud thudding sound as it crackled with dark energy. He propped himself back onto his feet, battered and breathing heavily as a sharp, burning pain shot throughout his body and his back especially.

So that was their plan, Jaixe thought. To catch him off-guard and then strike him down to the ground whenever he tried to obliterate them.

"That was cunning… But futile. You underestimate the power I wield still." Jaixe taunted them, a shadowy aura emanating from his whole body as he brought his full strength to bear. His strength, however, was diminished from that failed attack of his. He had expended an immense amount of energy in trying to deal a fatal blow against these heroes, but what he had left would be sufficient still.

He was still so certain he would emerge victorious from this sheer disaster.

"If you are so powerful, why do we still stand?" Teldranis rebutted the weakened Heartless condescendingly, reigniting the blue blades of energy with a hissing sound and a small gesture.

“Tch.” Jaixe grew annoyed, his expression that of focused rage as his eyes burned with dark intentions. “Don’t mock me, Templar. You have no means of killing me. I’ll return again and again no matter how many times you strike me down! I’ll destroy you both!” He answered with a scowl, stretching out his arm and pointing at the heroes with a clenched fist as the air around it grew charged with dark tendrils of energy, energy that emanated from within Jaixe’s closed hand. He gripped his scythe tightly as he took aim, opening the palm of his hand to unleash a volley of dark missiles that shot forth at amazing speeds, all aimed at the golden hero and the young girl beside him.

What happened next caught him by surprise however.

Teldranis sprinted forth at blazing speed and brought his blades to bear. One by one he skillfully cut them down, as each missile dissipated in a cloud of shadows and white sparks. And though many made it through Teldranis’s valorous charge, they impacted against a glowing barrier that encased and protected the Templar at all times. That was the least shocking though. The girl seemed to spring into action when she was finally threatened, calling forth a dome seemingly made of crystal panes around here that shone through the storm of dark mist that pelted it.

And what emerged from that dome seemingly made of sparkling diamond was what truly sent a chill down Jaixe’s spine and made him rigid and tense. The unmistakable glow and presence of that weapon that so haunted Jaixe’s thoughts before was now within the grip of a young, unassuming girl.

A keyblade.

It was gold and silver in color, with a grey handle and a dual guard that seemed to circle up and spike at either side of the cylindrical shaft that was the blade, and then curve inward back toward the center like a waning moon. The cylindrical, silver shaft continued outward until it ended with a much smaller, pointed crescent at the end. Attached to one side at the very tip of the blade was a gold, crescent-shaped hook section with what appeared to be smaller, square outcroppings in between the two longer, curved spikes that formed the crescent. Though the shaft was rather thick, the crescent attached to the side was surprisingly thin, almost to the point that it appeared fragile. At the bottom of the blade, below the handle, a short chain hung with the symbol of a waning moon attached to it at the end.

And the girl held it forward, aimed towards Jaixe, as she stuck her tongue out at Jaixe rudely. It caught Jaixe so completely off-guard, he barely reacted to Teldranis’s charge, deflecting the warrior’s barrage of attacks at the last second with a hastily casted dark barrier in front of him.

“So that is your plan? Weaken me and then have me fall to a frail girl!?” Jaixe exclaimed with concern and exasperation at how desperate this ploy was. And now how it seemed like it might work. He let them get too close without knowing what they were trying to do! Jaixe cursed himself mentally as he brought his scythe to bear against the warrior and the keyblade wielder. “I will not be vanquished so easily! Not by your hands, Guardian of Light!” He shouted defiantly, aiming an open palm at the young girl, his face contorted in a mixture of anxiety and hatred. His orange eyes glowed and the dark energy surged ever more through his body as he called up all the reserves of strength he had.

“Be consumed by darkness!” He yelled, unleashing a powerful outburst that consumed the area in blackness thicker than the darkest of nights. The sound was deafeningly loud and booming as it pulverized the landscape and slammed into the intended targets. His feet dug into the ground further and further as he poured more of his power, more of his now uncontrollable rage into the assault, seeking to annihilate his enemies no matter the cost. He refused to succumb to this absurdity.

And yet the insanity didn’t cease. Within the unending, chaotic currents a bright light shone forth, and outward. A combination of psionic blue energy that pulsated from the golden warrior, and pure light that scorched Jaixe just by gazing at it. Within moments the chaotic flood of darkness was seemingly cast aside and burned away violently by the blindingly intense light, and try as Jaixe might to keep stay his ground, he was thrown back yet again.

How was such strength even possible? Jaixe thought with shock and bewilderment overcoming him, as he slid across the ground again from the force of the eruption of light that so easily dispersed his attack. He managed to slowly get back to his feet, seeing a winded and kneeling Teldranis a distance away, clearly exhausted from the endeavor and injured by the ruthless assault. But the girl, she was still standing resolutely and smiling ever so gleefully at Jaixe as she brought her Keyblade up with both hands and held it beside her head, pointed at her intended victim.

“How is your light so powerful…?” Jaixe whispered that question as he clung to his scythe’s handle for support to keep him balanced. He was winded, bruised, cut in a million ways that seemed to have dark energy seeping away from him through his wounds, and yet his enemies still stood. She charged forth in a blur of motion, “Hope you’re ready, I’m not gonna hold anything back!” She shouted as she surged forth, kicking up a cloud of dust behind her as she did so.

Jaixe swung with his scythe downward just when the girl got in range, but she swirled to the side, brought her keyblade up and slammed it down onto the black shaft of the dark-bladed weapon, causing it to shatter into a dozen shards and casting the head of the scythe away. Her speed was astounding! Jaixe was even further shocked as he stumbled forth, caught off-balance from the attack, only to be met with a horizontal slash followed by an uppercut that cast him off his feet. From there, the girl jumped and unleashed a flurry of wild swings that each impacted against the helpless victim Jaixe was now.

Each hit burned like fire throughout his entire body, and it seemed to cut at the very essence of his being as dark energy and sparks of white light both emanated from each impact. Then finally, the girl flew higher into the sky above Jaixe as her Keyblade glowed brightly like the stars. In that moment, Jaixe saw his answer. He was wrong. And yet all he could manage there, beaten and battered as he seemed to endlessly hover above the ground, was a faint smile at his own sheer idiocy that brought him to this conclusion.

When the immaculate star of a crescent blade came down onto him, all Jaixe could see then was darkness as his very existence faded away into nothingness, his consciousness cast aside like broken glass.

The next thing Jaixe heard, while floating in the black abyss, was a voice, originating from a silhouette that lay cloaked in the darkness, grinning and staring at Jaixe as he seemingly lay helpless and defeated.

Quote:My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.

Jaixe grew more attentive then, as the being spoke to him, though he found himself without the strength to move or even talk. He could only manage to keep his eyes open and hear what was being spoken at him. He carefully watched Omni as it held out its hand with a glimmering orb that broke up the monotony of blackness surrounding them.

Quote:"This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.

Omnilium? Omniverse? What strangeness was this being spouting at Jaixe, and why did he find it so intriguing to listen to?

Quote:You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.

Then, as if waking from a dream, everything faded from view and Jaixe opened his eyes to see something quite foreign to what he was used to. He was lying next to a fountain of stone, and could hear the running water, but what surrounded the fountain itself is what perplexed him the most. A landscape so empty and white, it seemed as if it were a canvas lacking paint.

He tried to recall what happened before, but found the attempt exhausting. His mind drew blanks, fragments of what seemed to be a distant past or a faded dream. All he could remember is what that strange being told him, and the questions that he couldn’t ask.

As he stood up, he seemed to instinctively attempt to grasp a staff or something that simply didn’t exist in an attempt to prop himself up. He nearly lost his balance then, recovering at the last second and regaining his senses and footing. He scanned the bizarreness that lay around him as he stood up on the stone ground, and uttered a single question in response to it all, “What is this strange world…?”

Jaixe chose a random direction away from the fountain and began walking across the blank landscape, lost in his own thoughts as he trekked through the canvas of a world he found himself in.

“That being… felt odd.” Jaixe pondered aloud as he walked, “But why was I there to start with?” He asked himself, but found no answer in it. He pushed for an answer, straining to grasp the tiny fragments of memory he could recollect until he could satisfy his curiosity. “I was in darkness… why?”

Then something seemed to click in his mind as he stopped. “… I was slain.” He muttered as the wind seemed to kick up at the statement, tussling Jaixe’s spiky black hair with its currents. Little by little, he began to piece together a vague idea of the moments just before his arrival here, and then began to question his being here even more.

He knew he didn’t have the answer to that question, so he decided to experiment some before continuing. He remembered that he had a scythe, and how to summon it into being, so, he held out his hand in front of him, closed his eyes in concentration, and attempted to will the scythe from the darkness. However, try as he might, his wish went unanswered, and no such weapon appeared in his hands.

Did he lose his connection to the darkness? Impossible. Something else was wrong here… Jaixe attempted to stretch out with his thoughts, but found himself locked into his mind, unable to scan the area, let alone try to link to any Heartless. What was going on?

“Does darkness not exist here?” He asked aloud. That was a preposterous idea, darkness exists in all places. And yet…

“This world defies all logic.” That was the conclusion Jaixe came to in the end. Either it was that strange being, Omni, or this world’s nature that seemed to lock Jaixe away from the darkness he used to able to so easily subjugate. An impossible thought, but the only logical idea that seemed to fit into the puzzle at this juncture.

“Hmmph. I suppose I have no choice then.” He concluded with a rather sour face, resuming to walk in the westerly direction towards an unknown structure he saw in the far distance. “I will just have to play that Omni's game until I get some answers.”

It had been nearly a couple of hours, spent walking nonstop over an absurdly flat landscape, before he could even make out what he was heading towards. In truth, he had picked a random direction, hoping it would lead to something, and that was appearing to be a correct choice. Now, after restlessly staring into the sea of blankness, he could at least gaze upon something that stood distinct from the rest and offered him some form of comfort from becoming crazed.

Some time passed before he could see the figures guarding the gate. It was difficult to even discern them, those white-armored guards on either side of the archway. They blended into their surroundings so perfectly, it almost seemed as if it were intentionally so to Jaixe. It wasn’t until he got closer that he noticed the discrepancies and could make out the soldiers more clearly. They were odd to him, at first glance. He’d seen many guards before, but not armored with what appeared to be opaque plastic and rather intriguingly designed guns that seemed similar to projectile weapons, but held few of the key similarities of such.

They seemed to be guarding an immensely large archway of unusually smooth, interconnected steel plates. Though Jaixe would be the first to call it mundane, in these circumstances, it almost seemed to be a bastion of color and uniqueness compared to the never-ending white abyss that surrounded him. He was almost driven mad to the point that this discovery excited him and he wanted to sprint towards it, shouting happily as he went like some deranged madman.

Of course he wasn’t quite that far gone.

He continued walking toward the archway at the same pace he had been trekking through the emptiness. Jaixe assumed that it was a gateway of some sort, or a portal. He couldn’t imagine two guards living here, guarding a useless structure with nobody else around. This was also supported by the fact that he hadn’t seen a single soul since he arrived. However, given this Omni’s character, that might be the wrong assumption to make about this world and he might very well be stuck here due to a god's deranged sense of humor.

Whatever the case, he could at least get answers from these plastic-wearing soldiers if this wasn’t his means out of this white hell. “Though if it isn’t, I may just drown myself at that fountain…” He thought aloud with a droll voice and somewhat depressed expression at the thought that he’d quite possibly be stuck here for a very long time.

Though if he had to walk everywhere for the rest of his existence even past that gate, Jaixe was going to be deeply grateful he couldn't feel exhaustion and soreness the same way others would.
