A dragon's arrival
#1
After seven years of living in solitude, Alexyana had gotten used to a simple, routine-d life with no surprises lurking around the corner. There were seasons passing by, animals traversing her territory, daily training, hunting, gathering, cooking and other everyday tasks, the occasional chatter with her family and... that was pretty much it. As a result, when she did not wake up in her bed, but rather floating in darkness with a faceless figure speaking to her, fear and panic were her first reactions. Questions formed in her mind: Where am I? Is this a dream? Who is this being?

Quote:“My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

Alexyana shuddered as the voice resonated through her bones. Part of her wanted to panic more, but oddly enough she instead calmed down. She still was on alert and greatly at discomfort, of course, but she listened and, when the figure that called it- himself? - Omni handed her a rainbow-colored glowing orb, she wordlessly took it and examined it.

Quote:“This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most."

Interesting... a form of matter? And the faceless being had mentioned that that world reflected the wishes of its inhabitants. It sounded like this Omnilium stuff was some form of matter that shaped itself according to people's minds. As she thought like that, more words were spoken.

Quote:“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn."

Do not fear death? Right... perhaps in this world the laws of immortality for demon- and angelkin did not apply, and she was vulnerable like any mortal. She'd have to inquire. And there were others who want this thing. Involuntarily she clutched the orb closer to her chest. Then she was dismissed:

Quote:“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

-----------------------------------------

"Wah! Ah what the...!" The dragoness rose to a sitting position as if stung by a bee, and frantically looked around. The darkness, the faceless person - uh, Omni - and the orb had all faded away. Now she found herself lying on solid ground, and behind her were blubbering sounds. She grunted as she pushed herself to her feet while checking herself for any injuries - finding none - then looking around if that Omnilium orb thing she'd been given was around here - not finding that either. Though it seemed to have been some form of energy rather than matter - it oddly reminded her of mortal souls which she had used to consume - she could only suppose that it was stored within her being, if it wasn't material.
Only then did she check her surroundings a bit more closely. There was a rock formation where the blubbering sounds were coming from, which she found to be a Geyser upon closer inspection. The ground where she had woken up reminded her of home, it was like plains with patches of grass and the occasional tree, but beyond a certain distance from the fountain in the middle it was rapidly fading. Needing time to digest all this, the dragoness leant onto the side of the rock formation and took a deep breath, then another, and another. Gradually her mind calmed. She found that she still had the Bracelet of Lucifer to at least keep in touch with her family even though they were now dimensions apart. It wouldn't help her, really, but at least they wouldn't be left without knowing a thing.

Okay... what was next on the list? She'd recapitulated, she'd made sure to still have her belongings, and... and she was still wearing her night gown? Oh right, Omni had summoned her when she'd been in bed. Luckily she always kept her bracelet on her person. But what had this Omni guy said? With Omnilium anything she desired could be hers. She sat down, closed her eyes and focused her mind as hard as she could, picturing her everyday clothing in great detail. a rainbow-like glow appeared before her and slowly, gradually took shape, although the process would take a long time before the clothing was fully present and usable. Perhaps ten minutes or so, considering that the dragoness was putting great detail into it, including a belt, leather pads for protection and so on. Time during which other individuals could approach her without her taking notice, as she was focusing herself entirely.

Due to not being quite used to the newfound powers, Alexyana needed a bit more time than she had anticipated to fully re-create her clothing, but then she ensured that there was nobody nearby and rapidly changed into them. With gear fit for traveling, adventuring and generally being outdoors she felt much more comfortable immediately, and a little stretching of her limbs to get the remainder of her sleepiness out of her system got her fully awake and going.

Where was she even? Seeing as how everything was a white empty landscape save for the odd fountain behind her and the forest in a small radius around it, she could only assume that it was some sort of... maybe a pocket dimension? A Big Nothing? But there were... things, off in the distance. Perhaps human forms. And glowy things behind them? She rapidly identified those as stabilized tears in the fabric of reality linking two dimensions through the Rift, also known as Portals. Hm, so portalling technology - or magic - was something that people around here knew. It calmed her because that meant that the laws of reality in this place she had stranded at had to be at least similar to what she knew - in other words she wouldn't need to start out from zero.

Her desire to explore this world a little more stirred and she picked one of the portals which exerted an odd attractive force to her, even though it looked just the same as all the others. Perhaps because the light reflections from the people before that portal hinted at that they were wearing iron helmets - and iron helmets were something quite common where she came from, so she imagined that these people must be on a similar technological level than she was.
Quote:Author's Note: Alexyana is looking at/headed to the portal leading to Camelot. She isn't aware of that though.

Finding that she was quickly growing annoyed with that walking through the vast white landscape was feeling like she was moving on the spot, she decided to stop and place a hand on the ground. She'd been able to conjure up clothing for herself... perhaps she could attempt something bigger, something alive? Like a riding mount? She focused herself and pictured a Komdu, a beast native to where she came from which was typically used as a pack-mule and looked like a rhinoceros with a broader back and six legs growing sideways out of its torso, giving it a great foothold. Komdu were able to carry even a dragon like herself with little trouble, so hopefully... yes, it was already starting to materialize! She made sure to think of a saddle to sit on and continued to focus.

Unless interrupted it would take the dragoness another ten minutes to fully materialize the great beast, which breathed and clawed at the ground as if eager to move. Again, assuming that she did not get interrupted she would mount up and ride the beast, now much faster than on foot, and heading straight towards the portal that was to be seen in the far distance. This place was starting to interest her...

With nothing noteworthy happening during the dragoness's trip, she was almost happy to see that the people around the portal were reacting to her approach. She wasn't even bothering to hide herself as there was nothing that could have concealed her presence, and even if so she had no reason to want to hide. Instead she made a point to be visible so that the people would not believe that she might be trying to hide something.

When she came close to the gate she slowed her Kumdo and took a closer look. Indeed... the couple of people with armor were wearing things that reminded her of her homeworld, with slight style differences and pieces of metal that she didn't recognize - and of course unknown coats of arms on their shields and tabards. She dismounted when coming close and bowed to show respect and that she meant no harm, silently hoping that the etiquette was similar here to what she knew from home. She also made a point to not lower her head as she bowed so as to not make her lowered horns seem like a threat.

"Greetings", she said, using the common language of her homeworld. Once again, here's hoping that through some dimensional magic she could make herself understood. Her voice was unusually deep and growl-y but many years of schooling had taught her to speak in a way that humans with their high voices could still understand her just fine. "I'm afraid to say, I think I've lost my orientation. It's slowly coming back but I don't recognize this place, or this portal. Where does it lead t-"

"You're a newly arrived, aren't ya?" One of the guardsmen interrupted her with an amused grin, which broadened at the sight of the dragoness grimacing. She hadn't even upheld her act for one minute? That was disappointing. "This here portal be leadin' to Camelot. Though your kind's not taken well to round there." He eyed her over with a disgusted grimace, and Alexyana frowned.

"Camelot. That's all I wanted to know. I'll take your words to heart, but I'd rather judge for myself. I won't be causing any trouble, if that's what you're going to tell me next. Especially not when I'm only just getting used to this weird place."

"Better watch your tongue, lass." The other guardsman replied in his friend's stead. "You got a fast tongue, that can get you into trouble just as much as if you cause any. And don't think you're a big shot just cause you got brought here by Him. You're just one of many."

"Never thought I was. Thanks for the info." Again she bowed, then returned to her Kumdo and brought it to the portal by its reins, stepping through. It could've been worse... better too, of course, but she could really not complain. No spears driven through her chest, no mass panic, not even curse words - that was a huge improvement. So, off to this Camelot place it was!
