Wakfu
#1
MMO, tabletop game, cartoon, TCG, other spinoff games. Wakfu is part of a pretty fucking huge French franchise and setting.

If you're skeptical of the idea of French stuff, just watch this:

You should be pretty interested now.

The game is basically an MMO version of Final Fantasy Tactics/Fire Emblem, except you and your friends are playing as one character each. Turn based, grid-based combat that's actually pretty genius and fun, with 15 different classes to choose from that are all pretty unique! There's this weird ecosystem thing in the game too, where you can essentially get 'seeds' from creatures and then plant them so they grow into new groups of them. There's politics and four different nations all fighting each other, and a pretty extensive crafting system. I've played a little the last few days and it's been a good bit of casual fun.

Omni and I played some of Wakfu last year and it was fun, but we're going to give it another go now (and my Dad is too, coincidentally). If anyone wants to join us, then give the game a look here: http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg

It's free to play, sort of, in that you can access all the classes and stuff without playing but you're limited in what regions you can do stuff in, how far into the major story quests you can go, and stuff like that. The good thing is that the subscription is like $6 in case you're pretty fascinated by it.

The only catch is that the two English servers (Nox- US and Remmington- EU) are locked by your IP. You can only make an account for the server that you are able to access. You can, however, get by that with a proxy in your web browser so you can just make an account on the other server. Omni and I are on Remmington, so you Americans would have to do the proxy to join us. It's pretty easy, though. I'll see if I can dig up a tutorial for it.

The cartoon is pretty rad, too. Really neat animation and the French voice actors are surprisingly really awesome. Sadly, finding subbed versions is a bit tricky.

Oh here's a pic of 12 of the classes. Among the classes are berserkers with magical tattoos, time magi, beast summoners, plant summoners, crusaders, heavy support AOE damage clerics, rangers, gambler warriors, treasure hunters and a bunch of others.

Hmm, sounds like fun. I'd be willing to try it out.

Hmm I can't really find anything on setting up a proxy specifically for Wakfu, but I suspect anything that lets you set up a web browser proxy should work.

Failing that you can get someone who has normal access to Remington to make you an account, then change your password and details and all that jazz

Yeah I think before I just made folks accounts with their chosen names and emails and a placeholder password. I don't mind if folks ask me to do that on Steam or Skype (I'm Helixagon). Pretty sure then you can just log in and download the client.

Because it's turn-based, it's a nice relaxed game to play with friends over Skype or what have you. Someone moves, then it goes to the next person, until everyone has acted and it passes to the mobs' turn. The overworld is the same graphics, but you obviously move instantly and you see mobs who you can engage.

We played the beta before so it's all new characters now. Still deciding what to roll.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

The client is the same for all servers, it's just making the account that requires the IP of the respective region. Once you have the account you are good-to-go.

Luckily lag is pretty much a non-issue, so it doesn't really matter where we play.

huh I didn't think anyone bought a sub back when we played last year- it was still in Beta!

Anyway you could come play again! Get Greg or I to make you an account.

Like I said, I'd be willing to try it out; so if either you or Omni wants to create me an account that would be good~
