The Koopa in the Forest
#1
The view of the bright blue sky..
..with the small clouds passing by..

The soft breeze of a late spring's day blowing through..
..as one certain Koopa in the forest with a life anew..

In the Kingdom of Camelot, where tensions were high with a recurring war, peace was something that was a rarity due to the calamity and chaos to Coruscant due to a monster that ravaged the lands. However, the definition of monster has many meanings, however that being either being a monster in appearance or a monster at heart; in Ludwig's case, given to the fact that the Koopa King and the Koopa Troop were feared by the denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom and were called..monsters..

The amount of thought going through the Koopa's mind during his travel through the forest of this strangely familiar yet unfamiliar reality has him thinking as he cannot seem to forget those thoughts with the fact that he has done much harm and yet so little help in his years with capturing and executing the Toad prisoners, destroyed and ravaged small villages, were among the many countless evils he committed, along with his father and fellow siblings.

If anything else to add, he can easily compare his own father was very much the Dragon that steals the beautiful Princess away and Mario, well, he was her heroic shining-knight in armor that defeats the Dragon and bring her home to safety, however..what if there was a different tale to the story? A hidden-away secret that his father has been hiding?

As much as Ludwig wants to believe it, he couldn't because for all these years being stood up and lied to, his father came up as a selfish individual that cares nothing but Bowser Jr., food and the Princess. After all, who knows what he does to even manage to keep the Koopa Troop from rebelling against their King for lousy pay among other things? It's quite a mess especially for a Kingdom being known as a fearsome force among all of Mushroom World.

His brows furrowed as he thought if only things would go his way for once, but then again, it might would in due time, once he has enough power. He has to note on the fact that he has much to study on with the arcane arts and undergo much training and since he is without Kamek, he is without a mentor. As it seems, the combined effort of memories and actual hands-on-experience would have to be his guide until then.. unless there was someone else willingly to assist him.

Talk about your predicaments.

Eventually, he came to stop in place as he looked up and around the peaceful forest, with the beams of sunlight filtering down among the trees before he went to a nearby tree to rest before he sighed. He was tired after all, so what harm is there to be resting? Firstly, it isn't like he's harming anyone and secondly, he's done a lot of walking especially from being transported into the Nexus and having to take literally TWO HOURS on foot to get to the gate to Camelot, only to soon get told off with people talking down to him the moment he comes through.

In all honesty, he didn't deserve that! Not at all! He hardly knew these people and they have the audacity to demean HIM of all things. Just the thought of it made him growl, wanting to lay powerful curses on those who insulted his being, however for some reason, he is unable to because of how weak he noticeably has gotten.

How annoying.

With one last look before closing his eyes to rest, he looked up to at how beautiful the skies above him were before he calmed down a bit, lowered his head, subtly moving in against the tree to get comfortable, lowering his arms and finally closing his hands around him. As the passing of several seconds went, he gently went to his nap, only to be able to rest for awhile.

He needed this more than anything right now and if anyone knows better, they should keep their distance from him if they know what's good for them.

However, it doesn't help that by being nearby the city of Minas Trith, there would be bound to be travelers, namely denizens coming in and out, transporting goods from one place to another, it could become an issue should they approach and disturb the napping Koopa.

The question is: who would come along the intertwining and complex pathways of the peaceful forest to encounter the Koopa first?

"And this Kingaragorn...he is your Turaga?"

"No, no. King is a title; it means he rules these lands."

"...I see..."

These short exchanges had been happening regularly between the two of us in the time that I had been traveling with my companion. It was clear that this warrior creature was eager to found a relationship between the two of us, but I had no need for such camaraderie. It's basic explanations of where we were and what was going on also failed to fully meet my requirements, but so far he was the best source I had. The lands through which we traveled were pleasant enough; large, ancient trees stretched overhead, and many singing rahi lived within their branches. The warm air of mid-day caused large, trickling beads of water to form on my blade, so that my entire body was dripping with condensation. I noticed that the warrior creature kept looking at me with strange expressions. I suppose that it was understandable; I too found him to be wildly bizarre.

"This being that was in my vision, what is he?" I ask, keeping my gaze fixed dead ahead. There was something leaning against a tree down the road...

"Omni? Omni is the ruler of this Omniverse. He provides us with both pleasure and strife, both creation and destruction. To hold Omni in your heart is to hold-wait a moment, prime." the warrior creature said, holding a hand up in front of me. I did not pause in my stride; a Toa does not need to be protected. A Toa protects. Regardless, the warrior creature approached the strange object at the foot of a tree. My vision zoomed in to better examine it; it was some kind of shelled rani, with a large blue mane. It was asleep, so I did not understand the reason to accost it, however, I deferred in this judgement to my companion.

"Ho there Koopa! What brings the spawn of Bowser to this peaceful countryside?" the warrior asked, drawing his weapon. I do not follow suit, and my sword stays attached to my drive gear. The rahi, evidently called a Koopa, remains asleep. The warrior walks over and prods the Koopa in the chest with the tip of his sword. This displeases me.

"Snrrk...eh...snrk...wha?" the Koopa grumbles stirring from its slumber. Seeing a sword pointed at its chest, the creature immediately furrows its brows and passes a glare between my companion and I. Perhaps this rahi is a threat? I am unsure, but I personally do not feel threatened...

Ludwig did not like objects being pointed at him, especially swords, but then again, he has been threaten by spears from the Toad Guards back in his own world during the timing of the Princess' capture.

Looking up to this stranger, he answered,"I have my own reasons to why I am in the countryside, however I intend no ill will towards anyone even though the locals has mocked my presence among entering Camelot. Why do you insist on provoking my wrath by ruining the one moment I have away from my own disgrace of a Father, to whom I might add, that I have yet to locate in this unfamiliar region among the worlds?"

Despite his own distaste towards the other, he really is telling the truth; just because Ludwig is out in this place does not mean that he is out to cause trouble even though he's clearly tempted to due to recent circumstances.

With a low growl, he warned,"To you, I ask this. Why would you approach the dragon and threaten it when it has done nothing to cause harm? It doesn't make you the hero or the dragon the villain. It becomes a situation where no one wins and that is what is occurring now. Refusal to back down will result in an eventual fight and I'm really not in the mood for a fight, however if there is one, the fault won't be mine's for it will be yours due to provoking me,"

He does have a point after all. It's just up to the other to listen to what he has to say for himself.

The warrior seemed befuddled by the rahi's words. Perhaps such idealogical thought was not normally a part of his daily routine. What was apparent, however, was that this rahi's words were not satisfactory. The warrior kept his weapon in its place, the tip of the blade hovering scant inches from the beast's chest.

"...Dragon or not, Camelot cannot accept the presence of a Koopa roaming its countryside unchecked! We have seen your patrols, sneaking in and out of the far most gate to the Tangled Green. We do not trust your kind here." the warrior said, his upper lip curling into an expression of distaste. I am conflicted; did this warrior not just hear what this Koopa had to say? It had no affiliation with whatever other creatures roamed these lands. Stepping forward, I move the man's sword off to the side, looking into his eyes. Clearly he is shaken.

"I understand it is your duty to protect the people of these lands, and that you perceive this Koopa as a threat. I have no reason to believe either way, and I take the creature at its word. Let us move on." I say, gesturing to the road ahead. The warrior gives me the same look of distaste he had given the Koopa.

"No! I would be remiss to let a spawn of the Koopa King roam free!" he shouts, now turning to face me.

"Excuse me, but-" the Koopa begins to speak, but the warrior of Camelot rounds on him and brandishes his weapon once more.

"No more out of you, monster!" he shouts. My eyes narrow, and I grab the warrior's shoulder, sharply pulling him away from the Koopa and placing myself between the two.

"You dare-!" he starts, righting his stance and waving his sword in my direction. With swift purpose, I draw my own blade and ready my shield. With a sharp whir, it spins to life, and my entire body frosts over with elemental power.

"I do not dare, I protect. You say this Koopa is a monster, and that it cannot roam unchecked? Very well, I will serve to see to its passivity. I also have a duty to the Koopa, for it has done nothing wrong, yet you threaten it. In the justice of my land, that makes you the violator of the peace. So leave us, warrior of Camelot, I no longer have need of your assistance." I say, making my tone as stern as possible.

"And if the Koopa attacks our people?!" the warrior cries. I respect his dedication to his charges, but this has gone beyond the pale of sensible action.

"Then I will see to its submission, and I will take full responsibility for the consequences. No go." I say in a seething voice. I brandish my shield sharply in the direction that the Camelot-Koran and I had been traveling. There is a moment's hesitation, and only the sounds of the birds and my buzzing shield fill the air.

"So be it, but I will be notifying my captain of you. Both of you." the warrior says, relaxing his stance and sheathing his weapon. I follow suit, and allow my shield to spin to a halt. With one last petulant look over his shoulder, the warrior walks away with begrudging strides. Once he is out of sight, I turn to the Koopa, who maintains a look of suspicion on his face.

"...apologies for the intrusion..." I say, looking to the Koopa and then to the direction the warrior had traveled. "Truly...Valor without Wisdom is simply a danger to everyone. However, I have committed myself to a duty, and as such, I cannot leave your side until you depart from this place." I say, without an ounce of apologetic tone in my voice.

With a sigh, Ludwig looked up to the other, glad to see that the so called Camelot warrior out of his sight, he was only so close to retaliate back despite of the earlier threat that they are to be reported by his Captain. He didn't care about his petty threat given that he knows how to fight back, despite of being behind his magical capability; now that is something he needs improvement in. Given that he has a violent temper, he knew when to put a lid on it and let it simmer for awhile as it was a factor of his maturity.

"Those petty Camelot fools do not understand what's good for them. All they care is for themselves, fearful of the world out there," he spat before he sighed. "I wouldn't be surprised if their society is devolving for the cowards they are. They lack reason and common sense towards someone of my own standing especially due to the fact that I have an affiliation to the Koopa Kingdom. However the sightings of the members of the Koopa Troop around Tangled Green, surely that must be around here somewhere..hopefully,"

Those fond memories of home were returning more frequently and even Ludwig knew that he would have to face up to his old man sometime.

Eventually he straightened himself up and leaned forward away from the tree before he closed his eyes and stretched out his arms for a bit. Eventually, he lowered them as he eventually gained balance as he got on his feet. He rose his free hand to cover his mouth as he yawned for a bit before he lowered it after he was done.

"Pardon, I needed some time to get up, but anyways, even though I rarely had anyone assisting me outside of the Koopa Troop, I thank you for understanding. It's good to have someone else with some decent amount of reasoning around this area," he continued while calming himself. "Oh and by the way, my name is Ludwig von Koopa, the eldest sibling of the Royal Koopa family and you must be?"

Even though he's still tired, he still had his own standards to follow through as he was calm towards the other, if not curious. He wonders on who this stranger is given to the way he is..if Iggy was here, surely he would be all angles of intrigued.

"Ludwig. I am Kopaka, Toa of Ice. You are familiar with this Omniverse?" I asked, stowing my sword and shield. The Koopa shook his head.

"No, I am afraid I am quite new to this place, despite having...family here within." Ludwig said, his voice dropping into a low mutter towards the end of his response. The Koopa perked up and looked Kopaka in the eye.

"Say, you weren't delivered here by some strange white man, were you?" he asked, folding his arms. I nodded.

"I was indeed. I had hoped that this...Omniverse was to be the place where my Destiny lay but..." I said, pausing and looking around.

"...it seems that hope might be misplaced." he finished, my voice completely emotionless. This was not to say I wasn't feeling rather despondent at the situation; I was in fact quite distressed. Years of discipline and diligent training have, however, taught me that emotions are largely useless in situations of formality and purpose, such as this. Some...at least I seem to remember this...have called me cold in the past. Ironic, perhaps, being the Toa of Ice, but it wasn't the sort of label that I paid any heed to.

"Then we share something in common, Toa." Ludwig said. There was a few moments of silence. It appeared as though neither of us knew quite where to go from here. I break the silence after about a minute.

"I have no purpose for being in this place other than to become informed of my situation. Being that I am duty-bound to both your protection and observation, I suppose that puts me at your disposal until you decide to leave this...Camelot." I said, my expression utterly neutral. I am vaguely aware of the fact that my mask likely makes it nearly impossible for this largely organic Koopa to discern any kind of emotion I might deign to express. This is fortunate.

"Well, according to the other, we will have to make way towards Tangled Green and be on our way before we have a situation with the Camelot soldiers. They will be looking for us and if spotted, they will make our journey that much of a challenge. I do not want to be caught before meeting up with the members of the Koopa Troop," he replied as he looked around a bit, searching the surroundings of the forest before he looked back to Toa directly.

In the distance of the situation, there was a rattling in the bush closeby, causing the Koopa to look back out to their surroundings and look around for a bit before the bush rattled again, this time even louder. However, as a precaution, Ludwig used his prowess to summon his scepter in his hand before he walked over to the bush.

"Whoever is in there, come out and show yourself," he demanded momentarily before a lone redshelled Koopa Troopa popped out and said,"Don't hurt me, Lord Ludwig. I-I'm not here to c-cause trouble," The poor Koopa Troopa was a shuddering mess as he landed on the ground and covered his head.

It was only a Koopa Troopa. One of the basic foot-soldiers in the Koopa Troop. They were basically smaller versions of the species that the Royal Koopa family are known as and looked more turtle-like rather than draconic. Seeing the Koopa Troopa for the first time after a while did put more security to the situation at hand, though it's not as effective as the Magikoopas or any other members in the Koopa Troop would, but still.

"Calm down and get your act together," ordered Ludwig as he looked onwards to the other Koopa before the other got back up on his feet as he continued,"I'm s-sorry sir. It's just well, what that warrior did to you and well.."

"..you were eavesdropping?" he questioned the other as he knitted a brow.

"Y-yeah and well, I was about to run off and warn the others. They have been looking all over to find you and the other children," replied the other Koopa before he continued,"Oh, Lord Bowser and Lord Kamek will be relieved to see that you are all right and unharmed,"

I watched as the pair of Koopas exchanged pleasantries with one another. Ultimately it really was not of my concern, but the fact that there was truth to the Camelot-Koran's words made me wary of the two. I had no reason to believe that either Camelot or these...children of Bowser...were particularly evil from either perspective. War was not a common thing on Mata Nui...at least...not as far as I could remember. I let the two converse for a few minutes longer before interjecting.

"You can take us to the Tangled Green and out of Camelot then?" I ask bluntly. The yellow-skinned tortoise blinks twice at me. Apprehension is discernible within his movements, but he replies nonetheless.

"Yes sir, mister Toa sir! Uh..." The Koopa Troopa quickly looks in Ludwig's direction and the Koopaling nods silently. "Uh...this way!" the Koopa says, pointing down the very same road that the Camelot-Koran had traveled. It seems as though this dirt path is of monumental importance, at least as a means of travel. Without further comment, our troupe of three sets off deeper into the woods. It is still early in the afternoon, but the shade of the trees keeps the sun mostly at bay, and a pleasant breeze winds its way through their boughs. Again, none of us really seem to know what to say to one another, but I have always been preferential towards silence, so this does not bother me. After some time of trudging down the winding path, we come to an intersection. The Koopa Troopa taps his jaw with a finger for a few moments, trying to recall which way is the correct direction. There comes a small rustling in the bushes, and I turn slowly to try and see the source. Nothing is readily apparent, but with the power of my Kanohi Akaku, there is very little that can escape my perception. The lenses on the right side of my mask narrow as I begin to look through the trees with x-ray vision, searching for what might have made the noise. Again, I see nothing but small rahi and stones.

It's not until I look up that I see the figures hiding in the trees. There are five men perched within their branches, cleverly disguised with camouflaged clothing and bits of foliage strapped to their limbs. I draw my sword, and with a large, sweeping motion, I summon the power of winter to my blade. A freezing gale that carries motes of sharp ice blows up into the trees, shredding away the canopy of leaves and leaving the spying rogues revealed.

By this point, the two Koopas have taken notice too, with Ludwig drawing his magical implement, and the lesser Koopa withdrawing a spear from inside his shell, it would seem. One of the hiding men whistles loudly, and all four of them drop to the ground, with the fifth staying in his tree, now drawing a bow and arrow.

"Well, we was gonna try and take you down all easy like, but now that you've forced our hands, we'll be takin' all the Omnilium you've got." the vagabond croaks, palming his hand axe in anticipation. I narrow my eyes.

"This endeavor is folly. Retreat, or suffer justice." I saw calmly, spinning my shield to life. All five of them laugh loudly.

"Wot? Just cuz' the two 'a you is primes, you think we're just gonna run?" the man nearest me says, a hideous sneer on his face. He wields a large ball and chain. A rather ridiculous weapon, but a threat nonetheless.

"I think it is fair to assume that once this is over, you'll wish you would have." Ludwig retorts. With that, the rogues lunge in, eager to have their piece. With grim purpose, I step forward to meet my personal assailant, and as he swings his bludgeon down upon me, I bash it away with my shield. Following through with a spin, I cleave the chain connecting the iron sphere to its wielder, sending the ball spiraling off into the bush. With a snarl, my opponent draws a pair of daggers and lunges in like a some savage animal. I cannot count myself among the greatest combat artist among the Toa, but even I am able to easily keep the misguided attack at bay by dint of the fact my blade is simply longer than the two of his. Glancing over my shoulder, I look to see how my two compatriots fare...

While Ludwig's magic wasn't as powerful as it was before, atleast there's alternatives involved such as his trademark Koopa abilities. As a quick measure, he retreated inside his shell and came speeding towards the men, with intend to trick and then attack them.

In the meanwhile, before another guy came at the Koopa Troopa, he did a loud whistle to alert others within the area, calling in nearby forces in hiding to assist; one such ally was one of the Koopa Bros. that came out of the shadows and attacked one of the men in the tree.

Seeing Ludwig and his ally outnumbered, the black bandana Koopa Bro did a thumbs up before he exclaimed,"Yo guys! Party time! This is your team lead speaking and Lord Ludwig's and his cohorts are in a jam! Let's move it!"

From the Koopa Bro's beckon call, suddenly from all around the nearby area of the forest, came Hammer Bros., Sledgehammer Bros., Paratroopas, Lakitus and several Magikoopas, as they joined the fight. In the matter of moments, this turned to an all out brawl between both sides with both men and the variations of the Koopa Troop.

After doing his flamebreath attack at one of the men, Ludwig was glad to see that the battle was turning in their favor, however even if he has sent out his latest homing spell against one of the rogues, it was far from other. The battle is still young and anything could happen between the bounds of winning and losing. For one thing he knew that it's all in the strategy and to give credit to the lead of the scouting groups, as well as the Koopa Troopa, who even though was a bit of a coward, he did his part.

"Keep your wits about everyone! Do not let them win!" ordered Ludwig as he went to attack the rouge, be it brutal since he doesn't want these other men to get their way and take what Ludwig and Kopaka needs to get stronger. However, he was slightly injured from one of the men as he encountered some level of pain, but he had to go all for it in the end; this wasn't a battle of strategy, it was for survival and in short, failure nor defeat is not an option.

This is their life they are holding onto!

It was at this time that was the loudest in the once peaceful area in the confines of the forest, however..how long will the battle last? And more importantly, will they be able to continue onwards? After all, this could had been avoided if people would just listen!

I was, to say the least, startled when the forces on our side almost tripled in the blink of an eye. Out of nowhere, myriad kinds of Koopa rahi spilled from the bushes, and came dashing down the path. How had I not seen them when I had scanned the area before? This was troubling, but it was not something I could focus on at the moment. The man who I had been in combat with lunged at me again with his daggers, and this time instead of blocking the attack, I stepped to the side and let him carry his momentum past me. As he sailed by, I whirled around and clove my blade diagonally down his back, causing him to throw his hands up in the shock of pain. No blood was spilled, as the gash that had been formed had frozen over the second it had been made. He sucked in a long, gurgling gasp and sank to the ground. Infuriated, the bandit that had been taking shots at the Koopas below now chose me as his quarry. The man's aim left something to be desired, and I could easily block most of the incoming arrows with my whirling shield. I was, however, pinned down behind my cover.

At this moment in time, one of the hammer-wielding Koopas stepped to my side and also took cover behind the ice shield. He, however, had the means to retaliate, and a flurry of hammers soon knocked the sniper from his perch. I nodded to the tortoise in thanks, and turned my attention to the remaining three fighters. Several of the lesser Koopas had been injured beyond functionality, and were doing their best to limp away from combat. One of the larger rogues, armed with an oversized battle-axe, approached one of the crawling victims and looked down upon him with dark glee. I hastened to intercept the impending execution blow, but the man was distant, and I did not have the speed of Toa Pohatu.

"Ludwig! To your left!" I cried, gesturing towards the ominous scene with my sword. Ludwig disengaged from his battle with a man wielding a single sword and gasped as he saw the brutish rogue lift his axe high. Drawing on my elemental powers, I summoned a furious swell of elemental energy and flung it outwards through my blade. A cool blue bolt of icy power crackled through the air and slammed into the executioner, freezing him in place. With a roar of vengeful anger, Ludwig started a sprint towards the behemoth vagabond before leaping into the air and pulling to his shell. The meteoric impact shattered the rogue's icy prison, but sent him hurtling backwards, his flesh torn to shreds from the fractured ice shards. I was satisfied with the result, but as I went to take a step to my companion's aid, I sank to one knee, my shield keeping me propped up. The elemental blast had drained my strength, and I was left vulnerable...

As a response to Kopaka being left open, the Sledgehammer Bros. came up and around Kopaka and surround him from the other men acting as body shields. Their weight were mostly the reason why the ground shook underneath them and one of them said,"We'll protect you until you recover,"

Ludwig skidded across the ground on his feet after getting out of his shell and looking up noticing the group of Sledgehammer Bros. protecting Kopaka from future harm by shielding his area from future attacks from the opposition.

However, there were the others that would require healing from the Magikoopas if they manage to survive this battle. Ludwig's anger was still there of witnessing what happened to Kopaka and he ordered nearby Magikoopas to help heal his ally and give him strength as he pointed to them that he was being guarded by the Sledgehammer Bros. before he returned to battle with the other remaining able Koopa Troop members.

He might be injured but he isn't going to let the opposition win out. Fury filled his eyes as he soon returned into his shell, only to proceed with continuing.

As for the Black Koopa Bro., he noticed a hiding Bob-omb and grabbed it throwing at one of the men giving the Lakitus a hard time and upon contact of the man, the Bob-omb exploded instantaneously.

"BOM!"

I felt the light in my eyes slowly returning as my internal capacitors recharged themselves. My gear wheel was spinning at top speed, and after a few moments of breathing heavily, I rose to my feet. The Koopas maintained their perimeter around me, which gave me time to ponder what had just happened. I did not remember having such difficulty channeling the power of ice in the past. Had my control over the element atrophied during my dormancy? This too was troubling.

Regardless, I waved the Koopas away from myself as I prepared to rejoin the defense, but it would seem as though the remaining rogue preferred his survival over a death of integrity. With panicked eyes, the last man dashed off down the path directly ahead, leaving his own comrade dead in the dirt and three others writhing in pain.

Our side has casualties as well, though it seemed that the Koopa Troop was well equipped to address such grave circumstances. I observed their healers mend the broken soldiers, and as everyone went about collecting themselves, I approached Ludwig.

"It would seem as though the rumors of a Koopa regiment within Camelot are true..." I said, looking around at the assembled turtles.

"...I trust we should have no trouble finding our way to the Tangled Green, correct?" I say, my tone laden with subtext. I couldn't know what purpose the Koopa Troop had in Camelot, but they were an army trespassing on foreign lands, and this alone was enough to put me on guard.

Ludwig looked back to Kopaka and nodded,"Yes, however if we stay in this area for too long, since we have been reported, it will be a matter of time before someone or even Camelot's guard will eventually catch up and cause us even more trouble than of these rogues. We must pull out by any and all means if we are to continue our journey towards Tangled Green. Our numbers have already taken a loss due to inference with our battle and the Magikoopas could handle so much healing at one time,"

Taking a look around their surroundings for a brief moment, he saw no sight of the Koopa Bro until he returned and said,"Yo Lord Ludwig, I saw several men in armor on horseback lurking around closeby,"

Ludwig mentally groaned as the news was delivered to him in such a matter, but he ignored it eventually as he replied,"They are on the search for us. Quickly, we must pull back our forces before they come even closer," The Koopa Bro nodded and looked to the remaining able members of the Koopa Troop and said,"Yo, round it up and move it out! We're getting away from here!"

The remaining Koopa Troop members did just that to create a formal group and the Koopa Bro motioned for them to follow after him as they move in deeper into the forest where they would be safe, all the while leaving behind the rogues and those who sacrificed their lives in this battle.

As they exited, Ludwig exchanged a hostile glare at the rogues that were harmed before they went deeper into Tangled Green to get away from them and the Camelot guards on their trail.
